Well, this is pretty exciting. At least, it’s exciting if you have an Android phone – sorry iPhone users!. The newest version of the open-source camera app, MotionCam, now lets you shoot 10-Bit CinemaDNG RAW video files straight from your Android device. It should be noted that the feature is still experimental and definitely needs a few features tweaking and refining, but it works… with caveats. The MotionCam software, as mentioned, is open source....

The entire wedding was shot using two Fujifilm X-Pro2 cameras. So, no DSLRs whatsoever. What’s more, the photos are completely unedited. Fujifilm’s X Webcam software proved to be a big hit when it was released for the PC a couple of months ago and Fujifilm announced not too long ago that their X-T200 and X-A7 models would work as USB webcams for both the PC and Mac without any other software at all (as long as you installed a firmware update). Well now, Fujifilm has released X Webcam for the Mac, allowing you to use your Fujifilm GFX100, GFX 50S, GFX 50R, X-H1, X-Pro2, X-Pro3, X-T2, X-T3 or X-T4 on your Mac over USB for live streaming or video conferencing with the likes of Skype and Zoom....

Much of the software that is available for both Mac & Windows is largely identical for both. If you can use it on one, you can use it on the other. On December 16, 2017, Calgary-based business The Camera Store had $35,000 worth of gear stolen from their store. The thieves took high-end gear, including a Leica MP Safari kit, a Hasselblad X1D camera, and three lenses. They are offering a $5,000 reward for any information that leads to a conviction. As CBC reports, this is the first burglary The Camera Store has experienced over 21 years of business. Store owner Julian Ferreira says he and the police arrived at the store when the alarm went off, but all they found were “steel shutters pried open, windows smashed, and two display cases broken open....
We’ve all had our frustrations with software over the years, although in the photo and video industry, probably no more so than with Adobe – especially since they switched to the subscription model and forced updates. It’s not that Adobe’s software sucks – if it did, it wouldn’t be as popular as it is – but features change, disappear, don’t work the way they used to, and new updates can be filled with bugs and crashes....

I’m not normally a big fan of teaser videos, but something struck me about this one because there really isn’t much indication at all as to what’s coming except that it’s possibly aimed at consumers, rather than commercial users, and it’s designed for use with a phone.
