Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards is one of my favorite photo contests. While I don’t photograph wildlife myself, images from this contest never fail to put a smile on my face. Darktable has just received a massive version 4.2 update bringing with it a whole host of new and updated features. The summary of major highlights is down below and you can see the complete list of changes over on GitHub, but some of the much-welcomed new features include two new highlight preservation modes to reduce the effects of clipping and automatic lens distortion correction straight from EXIF data. Other major additions include a reworked pixelpipe caching feature with improved speed and reduced memory footprint, previews of presets without applying them, an improved duplicates manager, focus peaking, and a new Sigmoid display transform alternative to the filmic and base curve modules that allows you to expand or contract the dynamic range of the scene....

Shortly after welcoming AI-generated images on its platform, Shutterstock has introduced its own AI image generator, Shutterstock.AI. In collaboration with OpenAI, Shutterstock now offers AI-generated stock images to its customers from anywhere. They can create images in seconds, using any of the languages the website offers. Could this be the end of stock photography as we know it? In the announcement, Shutterstock promises that the images are “larger-than-life” and “ethically created....

This is one of those subjects in the photography world that is strangely controversial – like Nikon vs. Canon, DSLR vs. Smartphone and Prime vs. Zoom … the idea that you should delete your sh!t – or in other words – why you might want to permanently delete most of the photos that you’ve ever captured (on purpose)! The researchers at Disney have developed artificial intelligence that makes actors appear younger or older in seconds. If this becomes a standard, it could make that terrible CGI obsolete and unnecessary. It will also make it much faster, easier, and cheaper to re-age someone. DJI has expanded their line of cameras for industrial use with Zenmuse XT2, a thermal imaging camera equipped with side-by-side visual and thermal imaging sensors. The company describes it as “the next generation of commercial froe solutions.” With this new camera, DJI wants to expand the purpose of its enterprise drone platforms. They put the focus on tasks such as infrastructure inspection and agriculture, firefighting and search and rescue....

Edelkrone has announced its successor to the Edelkrone JibONE, announced in 2020. No, it’s not the JibTWO, it’s the JibONE V2. It offers all of the features of the original. I’ve got a lot of respect for cinematographer Rodney Charters. Really I do. His work on 24 was spectacular, as well as plenty of other TV shows and movies. Irix has recently expanded their cinema line of lenses by the addition of a new wide-angle lens, the 15mm T2.6. After releasing it in Ireland in 2019, Facebook is now expanding the feature that lets you upload your photos and videos directly to Google Photos. Starting today, users in the U.S. and Canada will have this option available, which should make it faster and more convenient to transfer your data between different services. The Data Transfer Project provides an open source library that any service can use to run and manage direct transfers on behalf of users....

Most people know Bryan Adams as a rock musician and the man behind some timeless hits. But he’s one of the musicians who are equally good at photography. I had the opportunity to get my hands on the recently announced Canon EOS R3 at The Photography Show. Let me tell you how that went for me.
