Indonesian photographer Gunarto Song was recently photographing a volcano when he captured a meteor right above it. Thanks to Gunarto’s shooting angle, it looks like the meteor is flying straight into the crater, giving him a once-in-a-lifetime shot that quickly went viral. Gunarto was taking photos of Mount Merapi, the most active volcano in Indonesia. He intended to get some shots to create a panorama, and the lucky shot came when he was already getting ready to head home....

Light painting provides so many creative opportunities, and we’ve seen plenty of stunning images in this technique so far. French photographer Fabrice Wittner merged light painting with and stencils and created a series of complex and unusual portraits. They all look otherworldly and mystical – and they were all painted with light. Fabrice’s project is named Northern Lights – L’Âme du Nord. He describes it as “an invitation to step into the polar night and the traditional world of Inuits....

With all the amazing timelapses that are coming out lately, it’s getting more and more difficult to do something different and make your work stand out. Shooting with a 100MP medium format camera is certainly one way to do it, which is the route that photographer and filmmaker Joe Capra chose to take. Shot on the Phase One XF IQ3 100MP camera, the final video uploaded to Vimeo is 1080p, but having a 12K source frame through which you can pan and zoom brings abilities that few other cameras can offer....

Timelapse videos that capture long time periods take plenty of photos and time to make. But NASA took this to a whole new level. Using 425 million high-resolution images, NASA created a timelapse that shows an entire decade of our Sun’s life. NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) has been capturing photos of the Sun since 2010. To honor its ten-year anniversary, this incredible timelapse was made. SDO began operating in February 2010, but the video comprises images from June 2010 to June 2020....

Earlier this year, the U.S. banned electronics on flights from eight Muslim countries. Even though there was a word it could happen on all international flights, the U.S. government has decided to lift the electronics ban altogether. According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the security measures have been enhanced, so there is no need to rely on electronics ban for the increase of safety. The spokesman of DHS, David Lapan, wrote that all the restrictions on large electronics have now been lifted from 10 airports and 9 airlines....

Shortly after implementing electronics ban from eight Muslim countries, the ban may soon take effect on all international flights to and from the U.S. Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly has recently announced that this decision might take place. The reason is continuous terrorist threats to bring down airplanes. Therefore, the expanded electronics ban could soon take place in order to increase the security of the passengers. According to Bloomberg, the Department of Homeland Security has been in talks with European Commission about expanding the ban to cover the flights to and from Europe....

Foursquare might not strike you immediately as the most obvious source of high quality images to illustrate a city guide, but if you step back and think about it from Airbnb’s perspective, it makes perfect sense. First, Airbnb’s guides are intended to give guests and visitors a local’s eye view of somewhere. Foursquare-shared images do just that. Chanel has launched a new collection of jewelry. It seems, however, that the photos that follow it have caused more reactions than the jewelry itself. The photos feature brand ambassador and famous actress Keira Knightley. They were taken by fashion photographer Sarah Moon, and the reason for strong reactions is that all the photos are blurry. But the proposal got upstaged for a moment when a cyclist slammed into the couple’s photographer at full speed. The incident was caught on camera, and luckily, it ended well. According to Inside Edition, Angelina Rivera thought she was at Brooklyn bridge for a photo shoot. But then her boyfriend Chris Vigo got down on one knee and popped the question....
