After a bit of an early leak, OM Digital Solutions has now officially announced its first item with the new OM System branding. It’s the OM System M.Zuiko Digital ED 20mm F1.4 Pro for Micro Four Thirds, offering a field of view equivalent to that of a 40mm lens on a full-frame body. While announced today, the lens doesn’t officially release until December 10th. It has what OMDS describes as “beautifully bleeding blur” (at least, that’s what it translates to), which is an odd phrase given that the lens primarily seems to be targeted towards landscape and travel, although portraits do get a little mention....

The long-awaited Laowa 12mm T2.8 Zero Distortion cinema lens we got to take a peek at during NAB 2019 is finally here. It’s essentially the same internals as the Laowa 12mm f/2.8 but in a cinema housing. It offers the same 16 elements in 10 groups, the same field of view, 18cm minimum focus distance and manual focusing. What makes it special to cinema, though, is that it offers a 270-degree focus throw for very precise control, particularly when using a follow focus wheel, a stepless aperture ring, it’s available in Canon EF, PL and Sony E mounts, and has a 100mm front filter thread with a step-up adapter for standard 114mm matte boxes....

As we probably all know, Instagram has been a part of Facebook for a while now. It’s getting more and more integrated into the parent app, and the latest part of the merger has been spotted in Stories. DJI has announced the new DJI Mini 3 drone. You might be feeling a little deja vu, like DJI already announced this, but no. This is a cut-down version of the DJI Mini 3 Pro, released back in May 2022. What makes the new DJI Mini 3 non-Pro different? Well, essentially, it’s the lack of obstacle avoidance. It might seem silly to remove the feature that beginners arguably need the most in a drone specifically targeted towards beginners....

I’ve always loved the concept of instant film like Polaroids or Fuji Instax, but never it’s really interested me enough to buy into it. But then I discovered the NONS SL42, which might finally win me over. It’s an M42 mount SLR that uses Fuji Instax Mini instant film to let you create instant prints with real lenses. It’s currently funding through Kickstarter, and it’s an intriguing looking bit of kit....

This looks like a pretty interesting little camera, although I have to say, given its shape, I’m a little disappointed it’s not 360°. It’s being funded through Kickstarter, and has already smashed way past its $50,000 goal, currently sitting at almost $300K with 29 days still to go. The PITTA is spherical in design but comes apart into two pieces to attach “modules”. The action camera module contains 1/4-20″ socket for mounting to tripods, selfie sticks and gimbals....

John Weatherby has developed a panel for Photoshop that will help you speed up your editing workflow. There are quite a few panels out there. The first one was probably made by Tony Kuyper, who created luminosity masks back in 2006. Other than that, Infinite Tools, Lumenzia, and Raya Pro are probably the best-known panels. These panels’ prime function is to create luminosity masks. The task is quite complex for someone who is not a Photoshop master....

It seems that DJI is facing even more struggles in the US as the Department of Defense (DoD) adds the companies to the list of Chinese companies on its official blacklist classifying them as a “Chinese military company”. DJI’s been facing problems with the US government since at least 2017 when the US Army banned the use of DJI drones over perceived cyber vulnerabilities. DJI was then added to the US Economic Blacklist in 2020....

They almost look like aerial photographs of glacial meltwater flowing into Icelandic lakes. But these are no fluvial waters. These are extreme macro close-ups of the human eye, taken by portrait photographer Markus Hofstätter. The abstract nature and varied colors and textures are all part of the beauty of these images. Markus has been fascinated by eyes for many years but devised a method to capture even more close-up images....

There are two things I like to look at when I just want to relax. Timelapses and photos from space. And when they’re combined, it’s often extremely relaxing. The above timelapse was shot recently by NASA astronaut Nick Hague, who has been living and working on the International Space Station since the middle of March. The video covers 30 minutes of realtime footage condensed down into 60 seconds. That’s about a third of a go around the planet....

Modern cameras allow photographers to remove and change the lens fast, using only one hand. Unfortunately, it also makes it easier for thieves to steal the lenses directly off the camera. This is why photographer Rutger Geerling created Mark’s Lens Safe. It’s an accessory that protects the release button of your camera, making it impossible to remove the lens with one hand. He created it as an open source design for 3D printers, so everyone can download and print it for their camera....

Weird and crazy lenses is what Mathieu Stern has become known for. He seems to find some of the most unusual lenses that ever existed, and then makes them fit onto his Sony mirrorless camera.
