It looked like it was the end for Tetenal. At the beginning of 2019, Tetenal went into liquidation but was rescued by a management buyout, including all photochemical formulas, the Tetenal brand name and the production facilities. Now, they’ve announced their first new developing kits, the “MagicBox”, for C-41 & E-6 film and RA-4 colour paper, under the new brand name TETENAL 1847. The company, who once employed around 200 people now consists of around 40....

Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) seem to be all the rage right now. The Associated Press (AP) has decided to jump on the bandwagon, so it’s soon launching its own NFT marketplace. It will offer collectors the opportunity to buy NFTs of iconic AP images, including some Pulitzer Prize-winning ones. You’ll need to start off by signing up for an account on the AP Marketplace. The marketplace will be available on desktop and mobile web through the AP Marketplace website....

Inevitably a time comes around in when a budding photographer decides to start “taking this seriously”, “discouraging image theft”, and my personal favorite, “gaining exposure”. The Bumble Bulb PAR30 is a new high-end LED light in the Omni-Color range from folks at Hive Lighting. Being touted as “a cutting-edge tool for film and television production” the new light comes in a PAR30 short neck form factor with a CRI 95 and TLCI 94. It sports modular optics, with both wired and wireless DMX control, a built-in battery and a tough rugged weatherproof enclosure. Hive says this is their most portable and affordable Omni-Color LED light and is compatible with professional or practical lamps with a standard E26/E27 socket....

When Insta360 released the original Insta360 ONE X in 2018 (review here), it kind of shook things up for the pocket-sized 360 camera market. To celebrate the 20th anniversary, the European Space Agency (ESA) has published the longest timelapse video ever recorded in space. Starting from Tunisia, the timelapse takes you to two whole trips around our home planet, and it took more than 21,000 photos to create it. The timelapse was created by Alexander Gerst, a German astronaut with ESA. He took approximately 21 375 images of the Earth from the International Space Station and turned them into a 15-minute video, 12....

I’ve spoken about camera bags before. They’re one of those things that photographers just seem to collect. Each has its purpose, but ultimately, many of them fail to live up to expectations and just end up becoming gear storage to keep the dust off your kit when it’s not in use. Prolycht has announced its new Orion 675 FS full-spectrum colour LED spotlight, which it claims is the most powerful colour-tunable spotlight in the world. It uses a six-colour LED “Hyperlight Color” engine that mixes red, green, blue, amber, cyan and lime to create a wide colour gamut that Prolycht says “surpasses traditional RGBW or RGBWW technology” to produce “super accurate and pleasing” skin tones. Set to 5600K, Prolycht says it’s brighter than a 1200 Watt HMDI and at 3200K it’s equal in output to a massive 5,000 Watt tungsten....

Thursday Society, the world’s first open global artists’ collective, launches simultaneously tomorrow (Thursday) in six international cities: London and Leeds in the UK; Indianapolis and New York in the USA; and in Europe, Vienna, Austria and Valencia, Spain. The Viltrox 85mm f/1.8 lens has started to become quite a popular lens choice for Sony E mount shooters due to its decent level of performance vs its fairly low $399 price tag (compared to the $600 Sony). It’s also available in Fuji X flavour, too. But can this lens go even faster than f/1.8? Yeah, apparently. Anybody who’s ever had to sit (or stand) and do a spoken piece to camera will know the struggle of trying to learn and memorise a script. Even if we think we’ve got it nailed down pretty well, we’ll often find ourselves doing two or three (or twelve) takes for some lines that just don’t seem to come out right, especially if they’re pretty long ones. This is where teleprompters step in and this one’s pretty awesome....
