We’ve seen some crazy folks freaking out over photographers asking photographers to stop shooting but this one goes over the top. This is the first time I am seeing a photographer being threatened to be ran over for shooting cars. According to Alex Stone, an automotive photographer from LA, he was shooting on a public road when he a truck driver confronted him for shooting on his “private driveway”. The truck driver repeatedly drove towards Alex and his companion and threatened them....

A few months ago, photographer Seth Miranda and a few other photographers had their gear stolen – by a fellow photographer. Seth and his colleagues had between $12,000 and $15,000 worth of gear stolen from their NYC studio. Seth went public about the case a few days ago, sharing the story with his Instagram followers now that the suspect has reportedly admitted to the crime. In a series of Instagram Stories, Seth revealed that his studio was robbed by David Scott Holloway....

Sometimes, it’s just impossible to set down a light stand, especially on location. Your stands might not be tall enough to get the light where you want. Perhaps the ground is just completely uneven. There may not even be any ground there at all. These days, though, we have other options. For Chinese photographer Fuyan Liu, that option was to mount Godox AD200 flashes to DJI Inspire 2 drones. Taking selfies is so easy even a monkey could do it. But would you ever think a plant could take a selfie? Well, sort of. The scientists at ZSL London Zoo have developed the world’s first plant-powered camera system. It uses the energy from a fern named Pete which powers the camera – so the plant can take its own photo. Basically, the tiny camera uses the energy a plant produces while feeding the bacteria in the soil....

My mom was a florist. She used to say you can always tell a florist by their thumb. Each floral stalk must be cut prior to refrigeration and cut again when incorporated into a design, so if the inside of the thumb is rough and slightly discolored, with tiny slices lining the soft padding, like a hundred tiny paper cuts, you’re talking to a florist. She made incredible floral arrangements, from bouquets to centerpieces....

I was hoping that new memory card company ProGrade Digital would give photographers some good news about XQD at some point. And this simultaneously isn’t good news, but it also sort of is. ProGrade Digital have confirmed that they are not going to be pursuing the XQD memory format, which isn’t going to make some Nikon shooters happy. They are, however, working toward XQD’s successor, CFexpress. CFexpress is backwards compatible with XQD – if the device manufacturer allows it – but with much faster transfer rates....

Until recently, Kylie Jenner was holding the record for the most liked Instagram post. But her record was beaten – by a random stock photo of an egg! The photo passed Jenner’s 18 million likes earning almost two times as much, and counting. Previously, the photo of Jenner’s birth announcement was holding the record. Until now, when it got beaten by the egg photo that has earned over 33 million likes at the time of writing this....

Some musicians are known to be… Well, not really fond of cameras, at least not at their concerts. But UK rapper Dizzee Rascal (Dylan Kwabena Mills) has raised it on a whole new level. Mills was recently filmed as he knocked a camera out photographer’s hands. As if it wasn’t enough, he picked it up and hurled it across the street as fiercely as he could. The incident took place outside Wimbledon magistrates court right after Mills was found guilty for a charge of assault against his former partner, Cassandra Jones....

The promotion leading up to the release of the RED Hydrogen One was largely a hype-fuelled campaign that ended up disappointing a whole lot of people. Particularly people who’d actually put money down to buy one. After delays, and even giving out freebies, it still wasn’t enough to keep people happy, so RED seemed to quietly pull the plug. Now it seems, though, that RED is up for round 2 and taking another crack at the smartphone market with the RED Hydrogen 2....

The coronavirus outbreak caused some delays in production, but now Canon EOS R5 launch is getting closer. Judging from a recently leaked information, it will be quite expensive with the price of around $6,700. Digital Camera World reports that the price leaked from an Australian retailer. This “mirrorless 5D equivalent” was reportedly priced at the $10,499 AUD. When converted, it’s $6,748 USD or £5,543. The EOS R5 is listed on B&H, but there’s still no price tag for the US....

It’s not uncommon for us to come across a story about a celebrity getting upset that their stomach, hips, legs or even arms were unrealistically edited in an image via post-production. What is uncommon is to come across an incident where it’s the subject’s face that received an unrealistic make-over in Photoshop. But that’s exactly what happened with a recent photo of Rumer Willis. And she’s had no problem calling out the photographer for ‘bullying’ her through unrealistic manipulations....

When it comes to smartphone camera sensors, there are only really two big players. Sony and Samsung. And while Sony might be selling more units, Samsung always seems to be pushing things that little bit further. Or, in this case, smaller. Samsung has announced its new 50-megapixel ISOCELL 2.0 JN1 sensor, boasting smaller pixels than even its 108-megapixel flagship smartphone sensor. This morning, Samyang released a teaser video to their Facebook page for a new lens that was coming soon. “A new perspective”, they said. Now, Nokishita have posted a couple of images to Twitter of the new lens. It turns out that perspective is ultrawide, has autofocus and it’s going to be for Canon EF mount. The world’s largest fetish event, the Folsom Street Fair, is controversial in and of itself. But still, it has managed to spark controversy among the photography community. In 2014, the Ask First Campaign originated at the event, telling photographers to “ask first” before taking photos. Since the fair is held in a public space, many photographers believe that they have the right to take photos without asking for permission. And the question is – is this really true?...

There are multiple wildfires burning in California right now. The one in El Dorado, burning near Oak Glen in San Bernardino County, was reportedly caused by a smoke bomb. Cal Fire confirmed in a press release that the fire was caused at a gender reveal party, and it has burned over 12,000 acres so far. According to the Cal Fire San Bernardino Unit, the El Dorado Fire was caused by “a smoke generating pyrotechnic device....

I don’t know, but somebody’s found a way, as there appears to be a brand new Sony 200-600G OSS f/5.6-6.3 FE lens up for sale on Yahoo Auctions Japan. Despite the fact that this lens isn’t even expected to be announced until next week, there are even photos of it in the listing....
