Olympus has just released a major new firmware update for the almost-three-year-old Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II. The firmware brings some features straight from the company’s flagship OMD E-M1X camera including improved autofocus, improvements in high ISO performance and L64 and L100 low ISO settings for “Detail Priority” when shooting jpg. The Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI), launched in 2019 as a collaboration between Adobe, Twitter and the New York Times, looks like it might finally be making some visible progress. The initial goals to help provide authenticity in images shared online, particularly when it comes to social media, appear to be coming to some kind of early fruition. Adobe has already shown some technology for preventing the manipulation of images. But a new article on the NYT R&D website shows how they’re fighting misinformation on social media where photographs are misused....

During the Apple event last September for the new iPhone 11 models, Apple spoke about a new tech they call “Deep Fusion”. It’s a process whereby 9 images are combined using an AI engine in order to create a single image to present the most detail possible. There haven’t really been any good samples of it out there, though, until now. The feature has appeared in the latest iOS 13 developer beta, and now lots of samples showing off its capabilities have started to pop up on the web – most notably on Twitter....

Well, it looks like Nikon has been doing at least a little work behind the scenes when it comes to their cameras. As well as the anticipated Nikon Z5 announcement at some point soon, it appears they’ve also been working on the second generation Z6s and Z7s cameras, too according to a report from Nikon Rumors. They’ve even released a few specs for the new cameras and it looks like Nikon might have actually listened to the feedback from Nikon Z6 and Z7 owners....

Well, this is quite the interesting turn of events. Nikon seems to have been struggling the last few years since Sony’s mirrorless domination began. Their latest annual financial report, however, paints a different story. Although overall income was down 4.3%, it shows a whopping 776% increase in profits over the previous 12 month period. Nikon’s imaging division accounts or 76.2% of that increase over the previous year. The D850 has driven much of that increase, and the company says that it will continue to focus on high-end cameras....

The hypothetical Nikon Z8 has been rumoured for a long time. Way back in September 2019, we were already seeing leaks and reports about Nikon working on a 60-megapixel camera that was expected to be the Nikon Z8. Many of us expected to have been released by now, but it hasn’t. It seems that Nikon hasn’t been sitting on its laurels, though. Oh no. In fact, the latest word is that the Z8 is “finalized/production-ready”....

Nikon’s Nikkor Z super telephoto lenses are fantastic pieces of kit, there’s no question. For what they cost, you’d expect them to be pretty spectacular, too. Like most modern autofocus mirrorless lenses, though, they use a focus-by-wire system when manually focusing. Focus by wire lets you make big adjustments by turning the ring quickly or fine adjustments by turning it slowly. A fantastic innovation for photographers, not so much for filmmakers....

While the Nikon Z6 II and Z7 II have received some nice updates over their predecessors, they have received a little criticism. Their autofocus, while better, still seems to lag behind Sony and Canon in certain situations according to various reviews. The Z6 II, in particular, has also received quite a bit of flak regarding the lack of 4K 60fps video. Well, according to serial leakers, Nokishita, Nikon is set to announce new firmware updates for V1....

Nokia’s five-camera smartphone was rumored last year, with some images leaked showing the rear camera setup. And now, HMD Global has finally officially announced it at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The Nokia 9 PureView smartphone is real, and it really has five cameras with Zeiss optics. The rear camera consists of five cameras with Zeiss lenses working simultaneously. Two of them are RGB and the remaining three feature black and white sensors....

Well, there’s been a lot of speculation about what’s going to happen to the name Olympus since its acquisition by JIP was completed at the beginning of the year. In February, the newly formed OM Digital hoped to be able to keep using the name Olympus and it looked like they might for a few years. But in August, it was rumoured camera models were expecting to be renamed and now it looks like the brand as a whole is, too....

Only a day after two photographers got robbed while stuck in traffic, another incident happened in California. While two men were doing a photoshoot in a San Diego park, six people tried to steal their gear. When the duo fought back, the thieves shot one man and hurt the other. The incident took place this Saturday around 7 pm at Chicano Park on National Avenue. Two men, aged 24 and 25 were having a photoshoot when six people approached them and tried to steal the photo gear....

OnePlus has now officially announced their new OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro smartphones containing cameras co-engineered with Hasselblad. OnePlus says that the new OnePlus 9 series represents a “major leap forward” in their ability to deliver premium flagship cameras in smartphones. They say that they’ve been working with Hasselblad through a close R&D collaboration to deliver “vastly improved camera systems” on the OnePlus 9 series and future OnePlus smartphones....

Epson International Pano Awards has announced the winners of its 2022 contest. And just like the images they shared back in April to inspire you, the winning images are equally powerful and gorgeous. This year, the winner is Jinyi He from China with three entries in the Open awards. His image The Vein is the overall winner, followed by two more breathtaking landscapes. The Epson International Pano Awards showcases the work of panoramic photographers worldwide and is the largest competition for panoramic photography....

Alongside the announcement of development for the new video-centric 6K S1H full frame mirrorless, Panasonic has also announced the firmware update (Firmware Key DMW-SFU2) for the Panasonic S1. This firmware is a paid upgrade and goes on sale in July 2019, offering a whole lot of features that video shooters have been asking for.
