When you think of Best Buy, photography lessons are probably not what first comes to mind. But, the chain now offers photography workshops in 80 of their stores across the US. If you’re into beginner classes, you can attend them for free. The intermediate-level lessons are paid, but they’re pretty affordable and only cost $50. Best Buy’s photography workshops are offered in its new Camera Experience Shop. The project is sponsored by major camera brands, including Nikon, Canon, Sony, and GoPro....

The current year definitely hasn’t got off to a good start, and our world has changed practically overnight. A recent report from Stackline shows just how much our habits have changed, at least when it comes to online shopping. It shows that camera sales have dropped a massive 64% – making them the third most declining category in online sales! The report consists of 100 fastest growing and fastest declining categories in e-commerce....

In January, the photographer Zoe Strauss made a bracing plea on her Facebook page. The artist, whose work had been recognized by the Whitney Biennial and Magnum Photos, and was the subject of a traveling survey exhibition organized by the Philadelphia Museum of Art, was out of money, needing $750 for a root canal, owing $1,500 to various friends and several thousand more for storage of her exhibition prints, without which she could not maintain the condition of her work....

Over the past two years, our communication has largely moved online due to the pandemic. And Canon wants to change this (sort of) with Kokomo, its very own social platform. It’s designed for VR video calls, so your communication will still remain at a safe distance, but you’ll at least have a feeling that you’re right there with the one you’re talking to. Kokomo was made to “change human communication by combining virtual reality with an immersive calling experience”, according to Canon....

Well, it’s just a big ol’ gear day for Canon today, huh? Along with the Canon EOS R3 development announcement, Canon has also announced three new lenses. Well, I say “new”, two of them, the RF 400mm f/2.8L IS USM and RF 600mm f/4L IS USM as mentioned in the previous image leak post, just appear to be EF lenses with a built-in RF adapter. But there does appear to be one completely new lens, which is the Canon RF 100mm f/2....

It’s been rumoured, hinted and hoped that IBIS would be coming to the Canon EOS R mirrorless lineup at some point, and now Canon Image Communication Business Operations Group Executive, Yoshiyuki Mizoguchi, has confirmed that IBIS is is something they’re working on for future models in an interview with Amateur Photographer at CP+ 2019. They’ve also reaffirmed Canon’s decision to not kill off the EOS M mirrorless system or mount....

It seems Canon weren’t kidding when they said they were willing to cannibalise their DSLR sales to go full on into mirrorless. Canon Rumors report that they have “confirmed” Canon’s new mirrorless camera is out there in the hands of “select Canon pro photographers”. They note that a survey was sent out to some Canon Explorers of Light in January, asking what they wanted to see in a “professional” mirrorless camera....

Canon has stated that their new full-frame mirrorless line will sit alongside their existing systems in their product lineup. That an APS-C format mirrorless in the EOS R is essentially not possible, and that EOS M will continue to live on and see development. True to their word, a new patent has just surfaced for a potential 10mm f/2.8 Fisheye lens design. The short backfocus distance suggests that it is for a mirrorless camera with an APS-C projection size....

Author Mark Synnott has asserted in his new book that China may have been involved in removing and hiding photographic evidence of the first-ever successful ascent of Mount Everest. British climbers George Mallory and his partner Andrew ‘Sandy’ Irvine made the attempt on Everest’s gruelling North Face in 1924 but subsequently went missing and were never seen again. That is until Mallory’s body was discovered in 1999 just 2000 feet from the summit....

There are undoubtedly many gorgeous drone videos and timelapse videos on the internet. But Belarusian timelapse photographer Artem Pryadko has combined the two styles. He created a video that shows all the beauties of Minsk recorded from the air. He turned aerial shots into a timelapse and got a dronelapse that’s true eye-candy. Artem created the dronelapse from the shots he took over the course of six months. He shot the footage in summer, autumn and winter of 2016....
