We’ve seen some super-detailed photos of different celestial objects taken from space. But now, we have the highest-resolution photos of the Moon ever captured from Earth. And what is particularly interesting, taking them required a transmitter less powerful than a microwave. A team of scientists has captured and engineers used the National Science Foundation’s Green Bank Telescope (GBT) and Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) to capture these radar images of the Moon....

Nikon Small World competition was founded in 1974 to recognize excellence in photography through the microscope. The results of the 44th competition have just been announced, and they will take your breath away. This year, the contest had nearly 2,500 entries from scientists and artists in 89 countries. This pair of photographers found a solution and built their own water studio in their backyard. Jada and David had the idea to create a sinking submarine. You’ve already met Helga Stentzel and her unique photos earlier this year. This talented artist turns ordinary into extraordinary, transforming everyday objects into something completely new and unexpected. In her latest project, Helga created endangered animals out of clothes, but that’s only a part of it. Getting a decent photograph of the sun which shows the incredible level of normally invisible detail of its surface is extremely difficult. Some photographers use lens compression to make the Moon look huge (this photo by Eric Paré came to my mind). But with a giant telescopic lens, photographer Daniel López made something spectacular. He filmed a short video of the moon setting behind Mount Teide, a volcano in the Canary Islands. And it seems so huge and fast, that you’ll feel like watching a scene from Star Wars. Daniel filmed the video on 30 May and it was captured from 16 kilometers (10 miles) away....

Filmmaker Sam Newton has created a song and a music video that cracked us up. It pokes fun at all kinds of folks in the industry: those who wanna be instant photographers, those who use photography to get girls… But also subtly calls out Premiere Pro, Lightroom presets, and Nikon....

I’ve seen all kinds of fantastic creative projects, and here’s one that made my jaw drop. Photographer and neuroscience student Russell Marx prints photos in a way I’ve never seen before – on algae.
