According to a report on Lighting Rumours, Profoto might be getting ready to announce a new A10 speedlight next week. It’s possibly a replacement model for the company’s Profoto A1X, but with added Bluetooth support. This potentially allows it to utilise the Profoto AirX functionality that Profoto released a couple of months ago for the iOS app. At the moment AirX supports Profoto B10 & B10 Plus strobes and Profoto C1 & C1 Plus LED lights....

Coming out of CP+ 2019, Ricoh has today announced their latest 360° camera, the Ricoh THETA Z1. The new model expands on the previous Theta V with a number of new features, the most noticeable of which is the somewhat giant leap from 12 to 23-megapixel still images – which can now be shot in Adobe DNG raw format as well as jpg. It also features a new processing algorithm offering HDR, interval composite shooting for things like star trails, as well as bracketing for up to 19 shots....

Ricoh has announced its new WG-70 compact camera. All outward appearances suggest that the WG-70 is largely identical to its predecessor, the WG-60 (which was also just a minor update to the WG-50). So, not much seems to have changed. Ricoh says, though, that the WG-70 does come with a few new features including a “digital microscope mode”, and a more advanced underwater shooting mode for better colour, contrast and white balance....

It’s been tough for Nikon over the past year or so. So tough that rumors about Nikon’s exiting the camera business have started to spread. It’s just speculation for now, but the company’s share in the mirrorless market has been so small that it was enough for the rumors to spread like wildfire. Japanese Business Journal shared CIPA’s report for 2020, which shows that the camera sales plummeted last year....

A few months back, there were some hints that Android users may see triple camera setup even in mid-range devices. And with the launch of Samsung Galaxy A7, it looks this is coming true. The A7 is Samsung’s first triple camera phone, and it packs pretty decent photography features into an otherwise average phone. The Galaxy A7’s rear camera comprises an 8MP 120° ultra-wide lens, a 24MP main camera, and a 5MP “depth” lens for the “bokeh” effect....

Samyang has today announced the new full-frame Samyang AF 35mm f/1.4 FE II lens for Sony E mount, the successor to its popular AF 35mm f/1.4 FE (which is currently seeing a big price drop from $799 to $499). According to Samyang UK, the new lens boasts corner-to-corner sharpness and clarity with a faster and more precise quiet autofocus system. It has a minimum focus distance of 29cm, weather-sealing and a “modern design” that looks pretty much identical to the old one on the surface, except for a slight colour change at the end of the focus ring....

Say what you will about wedding photography but few other gigs will allow you to drink on the job and party with beautiful people without having to even know a single dance move. My wife and I are freelance wedding photographers. She shoots digital and I shoot on b&w 35mm film. I use vintage, all manual cameras and lenses and I don’t use flash. This is a very challenging workflow that I’ve set up for myself but it’s quite rewarding and fun....

California-based online personalised photography product retailer, Shutterfly, is set to buy US photography company, Lifetouch. In a deal paying $825 million in cash, the focus is on growing both of the businesses, according to Shutterfly CEO, Chris North. It will allow Shutterfly to reach a new audience while allowing Lifetouch to offer more products to its customers. Lifetouch, an employee-owned company, has around 10 million customers in the US through its services to schools and communities....

It looks like the trend of killing off DSLR lenses continues. After Nikon and Canon, Tamron and Sigma seem to be killing off a bunch of lenses for DSLR cameras. With 18 lenses from Sigma and 22 from Tamron, there is a total of 40 lenses that are soon no longer going to be produced. Sigma’s lineup of native Sony E-Mount Art is now almost complete. Having shipped the 20mm, 24mm, 35mm, 50mm and 85mm E-Mount lenses in June, Sigma has now started sending out the 14mm f/1.8 DG HSM, 70mm f/2.8 DG Macro and 135mm f/1.8 DG HSM Art series E-Mount lenses. Having played with E-Mount versions of the 20mm and 50mm lenses only a week ago, they seem to show definite improvement on Sony bodies over MC-11 adapted EF or SA mount lenses....

As yesterday’s leaked photos show, Sigma are indeed bringing us a new lens for mirrorless users. Now, though, it’s not a leak or rumour any more, though. Today, Sigma have officially announced their new 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary lens for mirrorless cameras. Specifically, that means Sony and Micro Four Thirds photographers – sorry Fuji shooters. Sigma boast that this is the world’s first interchangeable lens for Sony mirrorless APS-C cameras which offers a 24mm full frame equivalent field of view at such a wide aperture....

This is a pretty novel idea for a camera slider, called Slidee from maker Shivam Dehinwal. It has no motors, no Bluetooth, no electronics at all and no batteries. It’s built around a regular retractable tape measure. Well, ok, a not-quite-regular retractable tape measure. It’s built specifically around the Komelon Touch Lock measuring tape because it has built-in speed control – which is important when you want to control how quickly your camera moves....

With the tagline “Adventure Unfolds“, DJI’s new video is teasing something coming on January 23rd. Or at least, it’s being announced on January 23rd. But what could it be? There’s been some speculation that it might be a fixed-wing craft, but the leading theory is that it will be a new Mavic. More specifically, the DJI Mavic Air, a smaller version of the DJI Mavic Pro. Although DJI did make a couple of announcements at CES 2018 recently for the DJI Osmo Mobile 2 and Ronin-S, they mentioned nothing of a new drone....

Sony shooters who prefer wide angle lenses, Sony has an exciting announcement for you. They are going wide and they have announced two new lenses for their E-Mount full frame cameras. One of them is Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM and the other is Sony FE 12-24mm f/4 G. They belong to the G Master series and they are designed to provide great sharpness and fine image quality. Both of them are fast, flexible and characterized by the constant aperture of f/2....

Spiffy gear has released some pretty interesting products over the years. Products like the Light Blaster and, more recently, as they’ve started getting into the world of LED lighting, Spekular. Now, they’re expanding their LED lighting range with a small, wearable LED light called Lumiee. Lumiee is what they’re calling a “slap light” and as the name suggests, it works like those slap bracelets many kids had in school back in the 80s and 90s....

In September last year, photographer Victoria Schafer was struck by a falling tree branch during a photoshoot in Hills State Park. Sadly, she was killed in the incident, and one of two teenagers involved recently pleaded guilty. He was charged with involuntary manslaughter and will serve up to 4.5 years at a juvenile detention facility It was almost exactly a year ago that Victoria Schafer (44) tragically lost her life....
