He’ll show you how it works and how to use it to make precise selections in Lightroom. In the photo Benjamin uses as an example, he wants to apply increase clarity in the leaves. When he does it to the entire image, clarity also increases in the background, which doesn’t make the bokeh look very pleasing....

Canon EOS R5 has been anticipated for quite some time. But just like the coronavirus has been affecting the entire industry, it looks like it will affect the launch of the R5 too. According to the latest reports, the camera could be released as late as October 2020 due to supply chain issues. Canon Rumors reports that Canon EOS R5 and EOS R6 are currently “both running at less than 1/4 of Canon’s manufacturing capacity....

After two full-frame mirrorless cameras, Nikon is reportedly launching the first APS-C camera in the Z series. Along with it, it’s set to launch two new zoom DX lenses: a 16-55mm f/3.5-6.3 and a 50-250mm f/4.5-6.3. According to Nikon Rumors, the new mirrorless model from Nikon will be named Z50. It will feature a 20MP APS-C sensor, a 3″ pivoted LCD, EVF, and enable 11 fps continuous shooting. It will reportedly use the new Nikon EN-EL25 battery....

As a photographer, I’m sure you’ve experienced a problem of chromatic aberration in some of your lenses. But thanks to the new solution developed at the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS), this problem might soon be resolved. The recently invented metacorrector will be able to remove chromatic aberration in all kinds of lenses: smartphones, DSLR or mirrorless camera lenses, but also microscopes. Even though the optical systems have come a long way, the basic principle hasn’t changed much since the mid-1700s, SEAS explains....

After some rumors, guesses, and predictions, Samsung Galaxy S10 has finally been officially announced. Just like most smartphones nowadays, it seems aimed at photographers (or “phoneographers”) and Instagram users. The new flagship phone features three rear cameras that take ultra-wide photos, it has a dedicated “Instagram photo mode,” and a few other features to help you make the best of your phone snapshots. Apparently, the Galaxy S10 doesn’t have six cameras, but “only” four on the S10 and S10e, and five on the S10+ model....

Deepfake has become a pretty hot topic in the world of visual AI over the last couple of years, and it’s come a very long way in a short amount of time. It’s an incredible and terrifying technology. And now Samsung has jumped on the bandwagon. Researchers at the Samsung AI Center in Mosci and the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology have published a new paper detailing their new software that generates 3D animated heads from a still image....

Despite appearances, the new Samyang XP 10mm f/3.5 is not a fisheye. It’s a rectilinear lens, which Samyang says offers “zero distortion”. It’s a manual focus lens designed for full frame DSLRs. Samyang claims that it’s the widest lens out for full frame DSLRs, too, just edging out the Irix 11mm f/4. Samyang hasn’t officially announced the lens yet, they’re just showing it off at the show. And they’re keeping things fairly close to their chest for now....

When I first heard the announcement that SanDisk was showing off a 1TB SD card at Photokina 2016, I thought “Impressive, but why?” Ok, at first I thought “That’s insane!!!”, who’s going to use a card that big? Then I was impressed. When they announced a 1TB Extreme microSD card at the beginning of this year, though, my thought changed to “Cool, want one!”. The difference, for me, is the form factor....

Of course, I’m kidding, how can anybody get sick of dog pictures on Facebook? Nvidia’s research teams have been doing some pretty crazy stuff with AI the last few years. This latest one is pretty funny from an amusement level standpoint but quite groundbreaking from a technical one. Nvidia’s GANimal AI lets you remap your pet’s “expression” onto other animals. It’s a challenging task for computers, although it has been done in the past....

Ladies and gentlemen, the king of lenses has been crowned. DxOMark has announced their test results for the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 Art lens, and it’s the lens with the highest score ever. It won 51 when mounted on a Nikon D800E and left Zeiss Otus 85mm f/1.4 eat its dust. DxOMark scores sharpness, transmission, distortion, vignetting and chromatic aberration, and Sigma seems to have nailed it in all categories. Interestingly enough, it scored slightly better on Nikon D800E than D810 (51 on the first and 50 on the second)....

I hope that we all know by now that we should be staying at home. And just because we’re at home all the time, that doesn’t mean we can’t get creative. Sigma has launched photo contest #SigmaShotatHome to spark this creativity further. The contest doesn’t only encourage us to stay at home and be creative but rewards us if we do so. Let me ask you a question. Is this photo REAL or FAKE? This might be a difficult question, because the answer depends on what you define as real or fake. Where and Who Draws the Line of Being Real or Fake? Firstly, there is no denying that post-production (a.k.a. post-processing) is an essential part of photographers’ workflow today, especially if you shoot RAW. Between RAW and a final output as JPG or PNG, we typically tweak a number of settings in photo editing software, such as colour temperature, exposure, vibrance and saturation, etc....

California-based Skydio launched their R1 drone last year, and it was a very impressive piece of kit. 13 onboard cameras allowed it to be fully autonomous and virtually impossible to crash. The problem was, it was pretty huge and at $2,500 it wasn’t very affordable vs the likes of the Phantom and Mavic drones from DJI. Now, though, the Skydio 2 has been announced, a smaller drone with an improved 4K camera for shooting video, full autonomy, complete surround obstacle avoidance, more interactive control options, and only a $999 price tag....

There are some celebrities who think that photos of them belong to them and that they can use them however they want. As you know, this isn’t the case. So, many celebrities also got sued by photographers after posting their photos without permission. Rapper Nas has recently joined the club after a photographer sued him for sharing his photo. And it got his colleague Snoop Dogg so mad that he posted a video claiming that beeeep photographers shouldn’t own their own photos....

This is probably going to surprise precisely nobody, but the Sony A7S III product photos have leaked ahead of the official announcement tomorrow. What is a surprise, though, is that they’re not coming from Nokishita this time, but directly from Sony Alpha Rumors and they confirm at least one detail about the new camera. It definitely has a flippy out LCD. There hasn’t been a confirmed spec sheet leaked yet, although the official announcement is expected tomorrow at 10am Eastern (7am Pacific, 3pm in the UK) where we’ll get to find out everything about Sony’s new video-focused camera....

Historically, Sony has jumped onto just about every bit of consumer tech (and even led the way sometimes) as soon as it appeared on the market. Anything that looked like it was going to be wildly popular, they wanted a piece of that pie. So it’s surprised me that they haven’t jumped right into the drone market already. According to Sony Alpha Rumours, though, it appears that Sony might be getting ready to do just that after they’ve spotted a new patent, dated October 2019....

Well, this is a little strange. Sony has updated both the Sony A7R IV and the older Sony A7R III (which I didn’t realise they were still even making) with a new, higher-resolution LCD, bumping it up from 1.44 million dots to 2,359,296 dots. Both models also see a slight change in model name, adding an “A” to their previous ILCE designation. Both cameras now also now say they support USB 3....

Despite the new models from Canon and Nikon over the last few months, Sony’s release of the A7C, A7S III and now the A1 have seen Sony take a massive lead in market share amongst full-frame mirrorless cameras in Japan. In stark contrast to the mere 25% share they held in April 2020, below both Nikon and Canon, Sony now holds 42.6%. This is according to BCNRanking, who collates camera sales data from across Japan....
