Nikon has released new firmware for a number of its Nikon Z cameras including the Nikon Z5, Z6, Z7 and Z50. It’s been a while since we heard anything about the hypothetical Nikon Z30 – an entry-level camera in Nikon’s Z mirrorless lineup to replace the popular Nikon D3x00 series DSLRs. The Assembly Bill 5 (or AB 5) was recently signed into law in California. It limits the use of classifying workers as independent contractors, and “forces” companies to classify them as employees. When it takes effect, this law will also limit many freelance photographers and photojournalists. Users of OnePlus 8 Pro recently started to notice that the phone’s “color filter camera” can see through plastic and some fabrics. It caused some concerns because, in some instances, it can basically see through clothes. Because of that, OnePlus has now announced that they are temporarily disabling the feature. The company announced on Weibo that they will start disabling the problematic filter through software update over the following week....

I can never get enough of hummingbird videos. These fast little birds can be difficult to capture, but nowadays, only a smartphone is enough for a pretty awesome slow-motion video. Phil Torres of The Jungle Diaries has captured wonderful video of colorful hummingbirds using nothing but an iPhone X’s slo-mo feature and a wide-angle Moment lens. Phil was in Cloud Forests at the base of Sumaco Volcano in Ecuador. He writes that he wanted to put a wide-angle Moment lens onto a test and use it for something other than landscapes and cities....

It’s simply incredible how many amazing creatures there are underwater. We certainly can’t take a peek at this marvelous world every day, but underwater photographers can show it to us. Marine biologist and photographer Alexander Semenov has caught one such creature on camera. Sea angels live in large amounts in Arctic and Antarctic seas, and Alexander has captured their beauty in a series of amazing images. On his website, Alexander explains that these pteropods include two completely different taxonomic groups....

Photographer Benjamin Von Wong decided to point out to this issue in his usual way – by creating an epic photo project. Photographer Horia Manolache had a goal when he started his latest project “The Prince and the Pauper“. He wanted to show homeless people in a new way to help make their stories heard. Inspired by Mark Twain’s novel, Horia’s series shows homeless people as they are and as they’d once dreamed to become. It’s quite a stark contrast. Shot in a mobile studio, the preparations for each subject lasted between one and three weeks depending on how quickly he could find subjects....

We’ve seen different kinds of copyright infringement lawsuits, and here’s a very unusual one. Photographer Jeff Sedlik has filed a lawsuit against famous tattoo artist Kat von D who used his photo of Miles Davis for a tattoo. The photographer seeks $150,000 in statutory damages plus any profits earned made by depicting the tattoo and removing any “derivative works” she could have made from it. Kat von D (Katherine Von Drachenberg) became famous after she was a star of the TLC reality TV series LA Ink, running between 2007 and 2011....
