Recently, Panasonic announced they were getting out of the chip business, selling their semiconductor business to Taiwan’s Nuvoton Technology or $250 million. Israeli chip manufacturer, TowerJazz has a 51% stake in a joint venture with Panasonic, and there was some confusion about whether this joint venture was included in the sale. Some reports had said that Panasonic’s sale would include the TowerJazz joint venture, which operates three chip-manufacturing facilities in Japan....

Over the course of its life, Triggertrap has had a pretty eventful journey. Triggertrap started life as an Open Source universal camera trigger backed through Kickstarter in 2011. It tripled its goal, and was very successful. Fast forward to 2013, and along came the Triggertrap Ada, also backed through Kickstarter. It smashed its goal, of £50K, raising almost £300K (around $500K at the time). But then various problems ensued which eventually led to the demise of the company at the beginning of this year....

We have all seen powerful images of conflicts, riots, and wars all over the world. They are striking on their own, but Turkish artist Uğur Gallenkuş puts them into collages that make them strike you even more. His project Paralel Evren is a series of collages, each created only from two images. Choosing a wedding photographer is an important task, but it sometimes happens that couples get unsatisfied with the results. A couple from Bollington, Cheshire accused their wedding photographer of not capturing the couple as much as the bridesmaids’ cleavage and bums. The case ended up in court, and the couple won. Steph and Paul Unwin hired photographer David Kilcourse for their big day in June 2015. As Metro writes, they bought a package which included the full day: from the bride getting ready, through the ceremony, meal, all the way to night time....

This December, Universal Pictures is releasing an unusual, original movie inspired by photography. Welcome to Marwen is announced as “the most original movie of the year,” and it tells a true story about a man who found courage and restored his broken spirit through photographing miniature scenes. Staring in Welcome to Marwen is Steve Carell, who was nominated for Oscar in 2014 as a lead male actor in Foxcatcher. Robert Zemeckis is the director, and you may know him for Forrest Gump, Flight and Cast Away....

Imagine a boat at sea, that is swaying in the ocean. Without an anchor— it would float away (and possibly be captured by pirates). What is your “visual anchor” in your frame? Treat the same metaphor to your photos; your viewer is looking at your image. What is the “visual anchor” which keeps their attention from swaying? When photographing scenes with tricky lighting and high dynamic range, many photographers use HDR. But in some scenarios, it’s far from being the best option. In fact, you should better ditch it and use image averaging instead. In this video, Spencer Cox gives you some examples of this technique and suggests when you should use it instead of HDR.
