So Stock Photography Is Dead Not According To These Two Photographers

$47,107. That’s the precise amount of money that these two photographers have made from stock images since signing up to the Stocksy platform. Although admittedly that amount is not exactly hitting the big time (particularly when divided and broken down into yearly figures), it’s a respectable number and would be a nice extra as part of multiple income streams. In this video, Daniel from Mango Street breaks down how he and his wife, Rachel did it and what type of images sold the best, to give you some ideas in case you want to up your game in today’s ‘stock market’....

Sony A1 That Took Olympic Tumble Actually Survived

Last week we reported on the Sony A1 that took its life into its own hands at the Beijing Olympics and launched itself on its own luge track down a snowy mountainside. It appeared from the footage that the camera would not be in good shape, with plastic pieces flying off it on its way down the slope. I know you’ve probably all been losing sleep awaiting news of the camera’s health so I’m pleased to be able to provide an update....

Sony A7Iii Coming In Q2 2017 Maybe

Listen up, Sony fans. Sony Alpha Rumors are reporting that the Sony A7III mirrorless camera is expected to be released in the second quarter of 2017. As with all rumours, you have to take this with a grain of salt, but SAR seem pretty confident. They say that the rumour comes from the same source as the Sony A99 II spec leak back in August. That leak proved to be 100% correct with the specs so chances are high that this one is also correct....

Sony A7Riii Pixel Shift Function Demo

The new Sony A7RIII has a new function that is called Pixel Shift. This function basically increases the resolution of your images by 4 times. In short: the camera takes 4 photos and shifts the sensor 1 pixel in between. By combining these images later (the camera doesn’t do this) you get an image that has 4 times the resolution of a normal raw image (4×42 Megapixel). This does NOT mean your file is suddenly 168 Megapixels....

Sony Is Leaving Brazilian Market After Nearly 50 Years

Two years after Nikon, Sony is now saying goodbye to Brazil, too. The company has announced that it is ceasing all operations in this country after 48 years of business. This includes the production and sales of cameras, but also TVs, audio equipment, and more. In the press release, Sony announced that it’s going to close the factory in Manaus at the end of March 2021. In mid-2021, the company plans to cease the sales of consumer products such as cameras, TV, and audio....

Sony Releases Service Advisory For The Sony Fe 16 35Mm F 2 8 Gm Lens

Sony Japan has issued a service advisory for their 16-35mm f/2.8 G Master series lens. From what I can make out of the Google-translated advisory, the camera appears to lock up when an affected lens is attached, and the screen no longer displays properly. Judging by the range of serial numbers targeted by the advisory, there are potentially around 22,500 lenses affected – assuming they’ve produced the lenses without any breaks in the number sequence....

Take A Peek Inside A Wedding Photojournalist Camera Bag

I’ve been a photographer from a very young age. I started photographing when I was 14 after being accepted to our local art school’s film department. Professionally, however, I started almost 10 years ago as a photojournalist for major Israeli news outlets. When I was 14, the first camera I got was a Ricoh. I later moved on to Nikon and have been with them ever since. Now, when attending or working at events, I keep my equipment very minimal....

Taking A Photo A Day Improves Your Well Being Study Finds

Taking a photo a day or “365 Day Project” is probably one of the most well-known photography challenges. While it works for some photographers, it’s not as good for the others – but a recent research shows that taking a photo each day can, in fact, be good for your well-being. The researchers behind this study are Dr. Liz Brewster of Lancaster University and Dr. Andrew Cox of the University of Sheffield....

The Canon 6D Mark Ii Gets Put Through Its Paces In This Festival Photography Field Test

Normally, when we use the phrase “field test”, it’s not meant quite so literally. It just means putting the camera to work in its typical usage environment. Camera use is quite broad, though. In this video from music photographer Matt Higgs for WEX Photographic, though, the 6D Mark II is taken to task in a field at the 2000 Trees festival in the UK. Music festivals can be great places to really test a camera’s limits....

The Cosmocap Is Another Camera Body Cap That Lets You Embed An Apple Airtag Tracker

The popularity of Apple AirTag always seems to be on the increase. With the amount of theft going on, particularly around photographers, it’s not much of a surprise that more and more photographers are taking to AirTag and similar tracking devices to ensure they know where their gear is at all times. The problem comes, though, when you’ve got an AirTag in your bag and thieves part out the gear while dumping the bag....

The Dji Mavic Air 2 Is Actually Super Easy To Fix

The folks at iFixit have been working hard during the lockdown, including building a massive repository of repair information for ventilators and other devices to help those who need to repair life-saving equipment. But they’re also managing to keep up with their regular YouTube duties, too, still regularly posting teardowns and instructional videos to repair your personal devices. Most recently, their latest video is the new DJI Mavic Air 2 drone; DJI’s follow-up to 2018’s popular Mavic Air....

The Dos And Don Ts Of Landscape Photography

I find landscape photography to be a fun but challenging subject. I just often feel let down that the image just doesn’t do justice to the location. Part of the problem I think is that I don’t think a photograph ever can ever really compete with the experience of actually being there. Although, it may just be that I’m just not destined to be a landscape photographer. Photographer Craig Roberts, on the other hand, likes shooting landscapes....

The Dslr Will Probably Die Are Mirrorless The Future Of Large Standalone Cameras

People often ask me, given the improvement and ubiquity of cell phones, whether DSLRs survive. This actually entails two slightly different questions: will standalone large-ish cameras survive, and will the particular reflex design (the R in DSLR) survive? I am cautiously optimistic about the former, and very pessimistic about the latter. In this piece, I will discuss DSLR vs. mirrorless. In a future post, I will discuss cell phone vs....

The Faa Has Banned Some Macbook Pros From Flights Over Battery Recall

A couple of months ago, Apple announced a recall for a “limited number” of 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro laptops sold between 2015 and 2017. This was due to the fact that “the battery may overheat and pose a fire safety risk”. If you own one, you can enter your serial number into this page to check if yours is affected by the recall. If you’re not bothered about checking, don’t worry, the FAA is enforcing it for you, should you attempt to fly with it....

The Final Version Of Blackmagic S Free Davinci Resolve 16 1 Is Now Available To Download

DaVinci Resolve has come a very long way over the last few years. From its humble existing as the colour grading tool of choice, it’s grown into a full-blown editor that now easily competes with the established big boys in the non-linear editing world, like Premiere Pro, Final Cut and Avid. After several months of beta testing, Blackmagic has now announced the final release of version 16.1, including a lot of updates....

The First Iphone Certified External Flash Will Come From A Power Bank Maker

Last week we shared that Apple is opening up their specs for using an external flash with iPhone 11. That means that you will be able to use an external flash with the iPhone native camera app. (This is different from, say, Lume Cube’s dedicated app, or Goodx A1). Now, Power Bank maker, Anker, is the first to make a dedicated flash built on the lighting connector. Here is we know:...

The Godox Ad400 Pro Is The Best Value For Money Strobe Godox Has Ever Made

The Godox AD400 Pro is the newest portable all-in-one strobe from Godox. It’s basically a 400Ws version of the AD600 Pro. It has a few design differences and a little less power, but basically an identical feature set. I’ve been playing with the AD400 Pro over the last couple of weeks to see how it handles and how it compares to some of the other portable strobes in the Godox product range....

The H Y 100 Filter Is One Clever Magnetic System

I’ve had the great pleasure of using a few different types of filter holder systems over the years, but this one is different. Let’s take a look at H&Y’s version of the 100mm filter holder. I just wanted to take a note of the box art. I find it rather pleasing. Possibly as they remind me of the various Sigma boxes, I’ve had over the years. But we are not here to look at boxes, so let’s get onto what’s inside....
