Litepanels has announced their new Gemini 1×1 Hard RGBWW LED panel. After posting a paparazzi photo of herself to Instagram Story, model and actress Emily Ratajkowski is being sued for $150,000. Photographer Robert O’Neil has filed a lawsuit against her, citing copyright infringement. He’s reportedly requesting damages, but also to be reimbursed for any profits Ratajkowski gained from sharing this photo. As we all know, Stories disappear after 24 hours, so the one that got Ratajkowski sued isn’t visible on Instagram any longer....

The Camp Fire, named after the Camp Creek Road where it originated, is the most devastating wildfire in California’s history. Beginning on November 8th, Camp Fire spans more than 138,000 acres. It has decimated at least 8,000 buildings and claimed at least 50 lives with over 200 civilians still reported missing. NASA has now released some high-resolution satellite images showing the scale of the wildfire. Don’t get too excited, though, that addon is the CCB-WD1 wired control box. You’ll need one for each camera, and they’ll cost $699 each, on top of the $699 camera price. So those 100 cameras will cost you around $140K in total....

According to Nikon Japan, the Nikon D3300 entry level DSLR has been discontinued (what Google translates as “old products”). That it’s listed as discontinued before an announcement for its replacement has been made could potentially mean an end to the D3x00 line. It could, however, also mean that a D3500 announcement is imminent (assuming they’ll skip the “400” marker as they did with the D5x00 and Dx00 ranges). It’s unusual for a camera to be listed as discontinued before its replacement has at least been announced but this wouldn’t be the first time Nikon have done this....

Earlier this year, we saw a patent for a fingerprint sensor from Canon. Nikon has just taken things a bit further. The company has filed a patent for biometric sensors that will read a photographer’s emotions. Well, if this isn’t a bit of humble-bragging, I’m not sure what is. Nikon has filed a new patent that describes Nikkor Z 35-50mm f/1.2 and Nikkor Z 50-70mm f/1.2 lenses. Yes, that’s right, zoom lenses. With a constant f/1.2 aperture. But it’s unlikely that Nikon will ever actually make them. If they did, they’d be insanely expensive. According to Asobinet, the patent was first filed back in January 2019, but it’s only just been issued this week....

Back in 2014, Nikon issued a technical service bulletin over “dust” issues with the D600 DSLR. It was an issue that Nikon initially seemed to deny existed but then replaced the D600 with the D610 less than 13 months later. But then, shortly after that, in February 2014, Nikon finally admitted there was a problem with the D600 and issued the service advisory offering free repairs – even if the warranty had expired....

Last week, an excerpt from an interview with Nikon’s president got us all stirred up. Well, Nikon’s latest annual report is out and it shows a $262 million write off in losses. The report says that Nikon has been facing challenges from the declining demand for camera gear from professionals and hobbyists, increased competition, the global silicon shortage and the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite this, Nikon will soon be releasing their new Z9 flagship mirrorless camera and according to Nikon president Toshikazu Umatate, they’ll be increasing their Z mount lens lineup from its current 22 up to “nearly 30”....

Nikon’s KeyMission line of cameras arrived with a pretty huge fanfare. Their entire Photokina 2016 press conference was based around them. But they’ve been a bit of a flop, really. Now, Nikon websites around the world are showing various models of KeyMission as being “Discontinued”. It’s not surprising, really. While there have been a couple of KeyMission proponents and stories of extreme survivability, the KeyMission line had a rocky start, a not-too-great middle and now, apparently, an entirely underwhelming end....
