If you’ve ever tried to photograph a person underwater, you know how important crystal clear water is to producing usable images. I do most of my underwater photography in Georgian Bay which is exceptionally clean and clear. It’s also freezing cold, and far away from urban areas – which complicates the logistics required to produce a commercial photography session (it’s a 3 or 4 hour drive for me and most models, stylists, make up artists etc....

Chinese lens manufacturer Vazen has now officially announced their new 50mm T2.1 1.8x Anamorphic Lens. Designed to cover large sensors like those found in the likes of the Red Monstro, Alexa LF, Kinefinity Mavo LF and Z-Cam E2-F8, the new lens is full-frame. It’s part of a 3-lens set which includes the 85mm T2.8 announced a few months ago, and a yet-to-be-announced 135mm. The new 50mm lens, Vazen says, features a “super compact and lightweight design”....

There’s a fast new lens in the Laowa Micro Four Thirds lineup. Venus Optics has today announced their new Laowa Argus 25mm f/0.95 MFT APO lens. Offering a similar field of view and relative depth of field to a 50mm f/1.8 on full-frame, but with two stops of extra light gathering ability, Laowa says the lens creates a nice soft bokeh and lets you shoot in very low lighting conditions with lower ISO values....

MacOS 10.13 High Sierra is officially released and available for download from September 25, 2017. However, if you want to keep your Wacom tablet working, it’s better not to upgrade just yet. Wacom is announcing a driver update will be ready by late October, so it’s safer to wait with the upgrade if you want to keep using your tablet uninterrupted. We should have known that if Tesla was going to make a Behind the Scenes video of its new Gigaplant factory it wasn’t going to be just any old video. What they made was, of course, pretty epic. It’s a fly-through drone video shot from First Person View (FPV), and it must have been incredible to watch them filming it. The new Tesla plant is based in Berlin, Germany and the video was released the same day the company announced their first-quarter production numbers for 2022....

This is another one of those questions I get asked a lot: ‘Should I be using a white or grey background with coloured gels?’ As with so many things in photography, the answer isn’t always as simple as you might think. Destin Sandlin from Smarter Every Day took some shots too, and he captured a phenomenon that got him utterly confused. Destin and his friend Trevor Mahlmann shot the moon aligned with Saturn 5 rocket in Alabama, USA. As the tip of the rocket and the moon got aligned, a dark line appeared, and it stayed in line with the rocket’s tip all along....

Apple announced last week that it would start scanning your iPhones and iCloud for photos of child sexual abuse. The new feature sparked a lot of controversy and concern among both users and other companies. When asked whether it would apply the same technology, WhatsApp said it wouldn’t, while at the same time calling Apple’s move “surveillance.” Head of WhatsApp Will Cathcart tweeted that Apple’s move is “the wrong approach and a setback for people’s privacy all over the world....

Twitter user @purplegodesss secretly took a photo of her dermatologist and posted it to the social network without his consent.
