It’s fair to say that almost all Instagram users are peeved at the crazy drop in engagement lately. If this was the only concern we had, I guess we’d stick with the program and find a solution, but it isn’t. The other major curveball that flew in at us is that the photo-sharing app is now apparently focused on anything but photos. Reels, videos, and ads are flooding our feeds, and countless photographers are voting with their feet and starting to build a presence on VERO in Peter McKinnon’s wake....

Johnsons Photopia have announced through their website and Twitter that they have now gone into administration. There isn’t a lot of information yet about how this came about, or how this may affect staff and future customer support for the brands they represent. Chinese manufacturer Kamlan has announced a new fisheye lens for Micro Four Thirds cameras. It’s a manual focus 7.5mm f/3.2 lens, and it will soon be introduced at the CP+ show in Japan. The Kamlan 7.5mm f/3.2 lens consists of 7 elements in six groups and provides a 160° angle of view. Minimum aperture is f/3.2 and it goes down to f/16. It comes with a Micro Four Thirds mount and it’s a manual focus lens....

You don’t often see photographers using gels outdoors in natural light, but why? I think one of the core reasons you don’t see too many natural light gel shots, is that you need a lot of power and control from your lights to make gels visible in daylight. Whenever we’re outside during the daytime, sunlight has a tendency to creep in everywhere. Even when we’re standing in heavy shadow, there’s still a lot of light on us as the sun bounces around almost endlessly and sneaks into even the most shadowy areas....

Since the Loupedeck’s reinvention of the Loupedeck into the Loupedeck+ the support for software besides Lightroom has been expanding nicely. A newly married woman and three of her family have drowned in a reservoir in India while trying to take a selfie, police in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu have said. The BBC reports that a group of six, aged 14-25, held hands and stood waist-deep in the water near Pambar dam when one of them lost their footing and slipped, pulling the others in. The husband, G Perumalsamy, 25, managed to save his 15-year-old sister, however his wife, V Nivedha, 20, alongside three of her family members aged 14, 20 and 22 did not make it....

Nikon D850 is finally here. After the leaked specs and photos, here comes the official announcement from Nikon, along with the detailed specs and the price. The D850 is Nikon’s first DSLR with a backside illumination CMOS sensor. Together with the camera’s low-noise performance, it allows a maximum standard sensitivity of ISO 25600 (expandable to ISO 102400). At trade show Salon de la photo 2018 in Paris, French photography blog Mizuwari got to sit down with Nikon France Director of Marketing and Communication, Nicolas Gillet to talk about the new Nikon mirrorless cameras. Mizuwari transcribed the interview, where they talk about the f/1.4 limitation of the Nikon F mount, and how the new Z mount overcomes this, offering a theoretical new limit of f/0.65 with autofocus capability....

Nikon has just updated its Z-mount lens roadmap and added three new lenses. Silhouettes of three new primes have been added, and they are 400mm, 600mm, and the “Micro 50mm.” When you look at the roadmap, you’ll notice that there are more than three silhouettes. But some of them were already teased in the previous lens roadmap update. In the latest one, three new lenses have been added, and they have also been included in the roadmap on Nikon’s website....
