While many Canon shooters process their images on the desktop with something like Lightroom or Capture One, Canon’s Digital Photo Pro software doesn’t suck. A lot of Canon photographers still use it and recommend it to newer photographers who want to shoot raw without getting locked into a subscription or buying expensive software. But as more photographers start to include tablets into their workflow, software needs to adapt. While Canon may sometimes take time to adapt, they’ve now released DPP Express; A version of Digital Photo Pro for the iPad and iPad Pro....

This is a little strange. Canon appears to be going the crowdfunding route with their new IVY REC camera. It’s the one they showed off at CP+ 2019 earlier this year that is rumoured to be one of three new cameras aimed at the younger generation scheduled for release this year. But instead of doing what they usually do and just announcing and releasing a product, they’re going to Indiegogo....

Canon saw a lot of backlash from consumers after it announced the new EOS R and EOS RP mirrorless cameras. Why? Well. amongst other reasons, because they didn’t have any kind of in-body image stabilisation. While Canon has many IS lenses for the EF mount, which are compatible with their mirrorless cameras through the use of an adapter, this just wasn’t enough. Next came the announcement that future Canon RF mount bodies would have IS, but now it looks like they’re going a little overboard....

After recent leaks and rumors, Canon PowerShot Pick is now officially launched. The tiny AI-powered camera demonstrates the power of face tracking and artificial intelligence Canon has developed. While it’s not the fanciest camera out there, it can be useful for video creators who play as “a one-man band,” as well in some everyday situations. The price and the specs are now out too, so let’s see what this li’l smart camera has to offer....

In a recent patent filed in Japan, Canon has introduced an 8mm f/4 fisheye lens. It seems to be made for full-frame cameras, and with a 182° angle of view, DL Cade notes that it is practically able to see behind itself. The patent application describes that the lens covers a circle diameter of 23mm. You would need a full-frame sensor to see the full fisheye circle. It’s not stated anywhere whether the lens is meant for Canon EF or the RF mount....

When Canon released the EOS 5DS and 5DSR in 2015, they kinda blew everything away when it came to high-resolution cameras. The only things that could really compete with them at the time were the Nikon D810 (36-megapixel) and expensive digital medium format cameras if you needed that kind of resolution. A replacement model has been rumoured for a long time, and now it seems one might finally be coming....

Two days ago Canon started a 48 hour countdown under the domain seeimpossible.usa.canon.com, hinting on a something new and big technology (and as much as I hate to say game changer, there have been talks about that as well). Canon signed the message with “AT CANON, WE SEE IMPOSSIBLE”. Previous similar announcements have been quite a disappointment with Canon starting a contest or releasing a camera bag. Capture One has announced that they’ve officially discontinued their brand-specific versions of Capture One for Nikon, Sony and Fujifilm cameras. This means that now, there’s only one version available; The more expensive one. The change, they say, is due to “preparation for the launch of new and existing products, including a powerful new way to collaborate with Capture One Live, and the brand’s first iOS app with Capture one for iPad”....

Dealing with colour in video is a two-part process. First, you’ve got colour correction. This is the process where you tweak your footage to get things as accurate to real life as you can. It’s also used to match footage shot with multiple cameras to give them all the same standard starting point for the second part of the process, which is colour grading. Create NYC – the event formerly known as PhotoPlus Expo – has announced that the 2022 show is being postponed until 2023. The chance in name came as the event is shifting from photographers to digital content creators in general, including both filmmakers and social media. Create NYC didn’t really say much in their announcement about exactly why it’s been postponed, except to say that the show “needs a little extra time” to get put together....

Artificial intelligence has already gone pretty far in face swapping. In fact, there are some deepfake videos that are very difficult to figure out. But Disney Research Studios and ETH Zurich just made it even more precise, and also cheaper than before. And it can be so accurate that it’s kinda creepy. Disney Research Studio published a paper explaining the research and the results they got with the new algorithm....

The Manfrotto Element series of aluminum travel tripods have become quite popular since their initial release. Now they’ve updated the line with the new Element Carbon. One of the key aspects of FPV drones is their repairability. After all, most FPV drones (particularly racing ones) are self-built by the person flying them. They’re not off-the-shelf purchases, so the person who made it and is flying it knows exactly how to tear it back down, replace parts and rebuild it. But does DJI’s new FPV drone stand up to the same self-repair scrutiny? This teardown video from Livyu FPV shows that, while it’s not exactly an FPV racing drone, it does seem to be designed in a modular fashion that makes it fairly easy for users to repair at home when needed....

Some people like capturing candid moments hoping to take some artistic and meaningful shots. Recently, I picked up the new DJI OSMO Action camera. This new camera is the ‘action’ version of the DJI OSMO pocket.
