Sony Fixes Data Loss Lockup And Memory Card Issues With New V2 1 Firmware For The A7Iii And A7Riii

Sony recently pulled Firmware v2.0 for the Sony A7III and A7RIII that was released in October due to the discovery of two fairly major bugs. These bugs would cause photographers to lose RAW images they’d shot along with random lockups of the camera. Well, now, Sony has released firmware v2.1 to resolve these issues. It also seems to fix a compatibility problem with certain memory cards. They don’t call SanDisk out by name, but they do cite “specific third-party memory cards”....

Sony S A7S Ii Successor Will Have A Crazy High Resolution 9 44 Million Pixel Evf

According to Sony Alpha Rumors, who say they “got a proof”, the Sony A7S III (or whatever the A7S II successor will be called) is expected to have an insane high resolution 9.44 million pixel electronic viewfinder. This makes it the highest EVF in a mirrorless camera by a pretty wide margin. Even the upcoming Canon EOS R5 is expected to have “only” a 5-million pixel EVF and other than Panasonic and Sony’s own A7R IV, most full-frame mirrorless cameras around today sit somewhere around 3....

Tamron 70 180 Vs Canon 70 200 Lens Review For Sony

The non-photographers might want to skip this blog post as it is a fairly detailed Tamron 70-180 v Canon 70-200 lens review for Sony E-mount cameras. There have been lots of reviews comparing the new Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 Di III VXD (A056) against the Sony FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS (SEL70200GM) and Sony FE 70-200mm F4 G OSS (SEL70200G) zoom lenses. These reviews are great, but I feel there’s a bit of gap as they assume you already have one of the big white Sony zoom lenses....

The Complete Lightroom And Midi Tutorial Introduction First Installment

Editing images with Software like Lightroom typically involves changing parameters like exposure, contrast, highlights, shadows, and so on for more than 90% of your work. These parameters are controlled using sliders that you have to drag with your Mouse – sliders that emulate physical controls. Why not use such physical controls like sliders or control dials directly? Instead of using the mouse to point to virtual controls and focus on these virtual controls, why not just use a physical control and focus on the effect on the picture while changing the values instead?...

The Entire Start To Finish Process To Make Ultra Large Format Wet Plate Photographs

Despite picking up a little in popularity in the last year or two, wet plate photography is still quite an alien process to many photographers. More and more information about it pops up onto the web every day. What I’ve not seen, though, until now, is an entire start to finish video or article which details the entire process. Thankfully, photographer Markus Hofstätter has done exactly that, in this video....

The First Test Shots From Kodak S New Ektrachrome Have Been Released

The return of Ektachrome has been getting many film photographers very excited. Announced at CES in January last year, Kodak went on to commit to a launch in 2018. It may be a little later than that announcement suggested, but Kodak has now finally released the first test shots from the new Ektachrome film. And it looks wonderful. https://www.instagram.com/p/BjlZqjUnNPG/ The pictures themselves are fairly boring and mundane. There’s a few ColorChecker swatches, the box of a roll of Ektachrome, a building, a young female subject, a few shirts and a tin of soup....

The Lab Box Multi Format Film Developing Tank Lets You Eliminate The Darkroom

When I first stumbled across this, I thought it was a pretty neat idea. Of course, it’s not an entirely new idea. Agfa used to make a similar device. The Rondinax. Of course, you needed completely separate units for 35mm and 120 format film. The LAB-BOX works on a similar principle, but is a little more modular, allowing you to develop both with the same unit. With the Kickstarter campaign launched only a couple of days ago, it’s already smashed its €70,000 goal....

The Mental Sweet Spot For Progression

There is a problem we all face as creatives in one way or another, and that is either being too hard on ourselves, or too happy about our own work that we take critique very personally. Both of these sides are toxic and they aren’t the essential zone we need to be in to promote and nurture growth with our work and our lives. Over the last eight years, I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know photographers who I have seen become very successful....
