Game capture hardware maker Elgato has created Cam Link, a tiny and handy device that lets you turn any camera you have into a webcam. Although it’s aimed mainly at gamers who want to stream and record their gaming sessions, you can use it for other purposes as well. You can stream videos on YouTube or just use it as a webcam for video chat. And it’s a pretty affordable gadget....

There have been a lot of complaints about the Canon EOS R mirrorless camera. It only has one card slot, it crops when shooting 4K video, and there’s no IBIS. “WTF Canon?” the collective Internet proclaimed. Well, Canon has now responded to at least one of those issues. There’s something magical about soap bubbles, but watching them freeze raises the magic to a whole new level. In his timelapse Winter’s Magic, photographer Don Komarechka captured the process of soap bubbles getting frozen. And watching the ice crystals as they form on the delicate bubbles’ surface is as wonderful to watch, as it is difficult to film. Don shot the video two years ago on a Canon 1DX at 1080P, so none of the footage is cropped....

The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K has been a massive hit ever since its initial announcement. Such a big hit that if you order one today, you still might not actually get it for at least a couple of months. But one of the biggest complaints I hear about it is that it doesn’t have continuous autofocus. Well, Ian at CDA-TEK seems to have figured out a way to give Time of Flight (ToF) continuous autofocus to the Pocket 4K....
It’s not rare that photographers are inspired by other types of art: it can be cinematography, music, painting – you name it. Photographer Nicholas Busch finds his inspiration in movies, and he brings together realistic miniatures, portrait photography, and compositing. Nicholas builds hyper-realistic dioramas from scratch to create scenes from The Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland, Lord of the Rings and other movies. He then combines them with portraits, and with the help of Photoshop, he creates photos just like scenes we’ve seen on the big screen....

Bringing photography together with other arts or sciences can produce magnificent results. So, what happens when you bring together photography and math? Michael Goldrei decided to try it out and he ended up with a unique photo book shaped like a Möbius strip, a one-sided mathematical surface. You can start reading it from any point you like and end anywhere you like, and it looks very trippy. Michael writes that a short story by Robin Sloan inspired him for this project....
