It’s like you can’t win with these cloud backup services – whether it’s your whole system or just photos. No matter which one you pick, somebody keeps moving the goalposts. New ones are coming up, old ones are disappearing, the quotas keep changing, the apps work in strange ways and it just becomes too much hassle to keep up with it all and keep researching which service is going to give you what you need every time you’re forced to switch from one you’ve been using happily for years to something completely new and unknown....

Aputure is killing it here at IBC 2019, and today they announced a light that will probably get DPs drooling until it is released. The light is part of the Light Storm Cxxx family and is a step up from the latest 300Dii. If the 120Dii is 120 watts, and the 300Dii is 300 watts, the 600D packs an amazing 600 watts of LED light. That would be just under 5,000 watts of “old school” light....

Aputure has come a long way since its founding in 2005. Every year they bring us an array of newer and better lights, and occasionally something that’s just a little bit different. But one light that got a lot of attention at NAB 2019 in Las Vegas a few months ago was the Aputure 300D Mark II. Well, now it’s available to buy and is shipping now. The Aputure 300D Mark II builds upon the original in a number of ways, sporting a new enclosure, with a new control unit, wireless capabilities and it’s 20% brighter than its predecessor, offering 45,000 lux output with the reflector at one metre and 80,000 lux with the Fresnel attachment....

Graphic Designer Randy Lewis creates quite an unusual and fun series of image manipulations. The artist takes simple, everyday objects and blends them together, creating something new and unordinary. The result of his creativity is a series of clever and witty images. They’ll make you look twice, and they are certain to put a smile on your face. Randy’s series is named This or That Series, and it shows the artist’s creativity on several levels....

I love it when two different art forms come together to create something unique and outstanding. By combining macro photography with illustrations, Indian artist Vimal Chandran creates charming stories of a character he named “Yellow Girl.” Vimal is a multidisciplinary artist, devoted mainly to photography, illustration, installation, and drawing. And as you can see, he merges them together to create adorable little stories. Even though he has a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Vimal has a truly creative mind and many artistic talents that he keeps developing on his own....

Photographing in public locations is a daunting task to many people, and it’s understandable why that is. While the majority of people don’t really care about having their photograph taken, you do occasionally get one or two that don’t take too kindly to having a camera pointed in their general direction. When the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K was announced around 16 months ago, it was a big shock to a lot of people. A Micro Four Thirds cinema camera that shot 4K RAW video for under $1,300. It just seemed to good to be true. Well, today, Blackmagic has upped the ante, with the new Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K. It shares much in common with its 4K sibling, including a rather low budget price of only $2,499 (£2,025 in the UK)....

Blackmagic has announced two new 4K Studio cameras. The Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K Plus and the Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K Pro. Both cameras are designed primarily for live production, although they can also record Blackmagic RAW to an SSD over USB. Both cameras also feature a huge new 7″ touchscreen LCD. Well, if you’d been thinking about picking up Canon’s EF to RF drop-in filter adapter, Breakthrough Photography might’ve just made your decision a little easier. They’re the first third-party company to produce drop-in filters for the Canon adapter, and they’ve kicked off the range by launching a whole bunch of them at once! Amongst the list of filters for your Canon full-frame mirrorless adapter are several circular polarisers (some with included ND) regular straight NDs as well as variable NDs, a Night Sky filter, infrared filter, a couple of clear filters and a number of interesting coloured polarisers specifically for shooting black and white....

Well, this is a bit of a surprise. The Cactus RQ250 strobe announced shortly before The Photography Show earlier in the year is being taken to Kickstarter. Originally scheduled to ship in September 2018, it looks like it’s seen some slight delays, with the campaign showing backers will now receive theirs in October 2018. Now that it’s on Kickstarter, though, we finally know the price. And it’s not cheap....

Having one’s camera gear stolen is the nightmare of every photographer. The nightmare for those that steal it? Being arrested by the guy you’re trying to sell it to. But, that’s exactly what happened to two thieves who stole from a visiting photographer in the middle of a session with a client. Chicago based photographer Mirlanbek Murzapazylov was hired by a couple to photograph them on Wednesday inside Prospect Park in Brooklyn....

We’ve been hearing rumours since The Photography Show that several brands may be pulling out of this year’s Photokina in September. Big brands including Canon, Elinchrom and Profoto. Of course, none of them would confirm anything at the time, but Elinchrom has now put out a statement. They are the first to confirm that they are pulling out of Photokina 2018, but they may not be the last. Update: Photokina organisers have confirmed to DIYP that both Profoto and Canon will be an attendance at Photokina 2018...

Canon recently released its Q3/2019 financial report and the results are once again pretty bad in the imaging division. The trend of declining sales and profits continues, with a 13.9% decrease in sales and a 56.8% decrease in profits compared to the Q3/2018. At the beginning of this year, Canon predicted a grim future for the camera business. Canon’s president Fujio Mitarai said back then that the digital cameras market could shrink by 50% within the next two years....

Along with the new Canon EOS RP, Canon has announced six new lenses. Sort of. They haven’t announced that the lenses are available, or when they’ll be available (other than “later in 2019”), just that they’re under development. Five of the lenses are clearly aimed at professional users, offering the “Holy Grail” with 15-35mm, 24-70mm and 70-200mm f/2.8 zooms, as well as two 85mm f/1.2 lenses. But they’re not forgetting those who love their superzooms, either, with a 24-240mm f/4-6....

If you’d like to turn your Canon DSLR or mirrorless into a webcam, it’s been possible for quite a while now. But to make it even easier, Canon has just launched starter kits that you need to connect your camera to the computer and use as an (overkill) webcam. The kits are available for Canon EOS RP, EOS Rebel, and select EOS M cameras. They consist of an interface cable, a DC couple, and an AC adapter – everything you need to turn your camera into a webcam....

Two years after announcing the EOS M100, Canon is introducing its successor, the EOS M200. Canon hasn’t changed much in terms of design, but there are some other improvements you may find useful. First of all, the new M200 is capable of shooting 4K, and it has improved autofocus. Let’s dive in and see the remaining specs. The Canon EOS M200 features a 24MP APS-C sensor and the latest Canon DIGIC 8 processor....

Plenty of news comes from Canon today. They have announced two new DSLR cameras: EOS 77D and T7i (which will be known as EOS 800D outside the US). These will most likely make advanced beginners happy, as they will allow them expand their knowledge and skills. Canon has also announced a new 18-55mm lens to go along. You can order them separately or with some of the cameras, there are several options available....

So, this is an unusual one. The word is spreading, seemingly as a result of Vitaliy Kiselev over at Personal View, that Canon is planning to kill off the entire EOS M product line. There’s been no statement from Canon, although Personal View doesn’t state their source for their belief, either. Canon has been sending out a pretty consistent message since the launch of the EOS R in September 2018 that they are not killing off the EOS M product line, with a Canon exec stating last year that they have no plans to kill off the OES M system....

Canon released its latest v1.3.2 firmware for the Canon 5D Mark IV on May 27th, bringing with it improved compatibility when connecting your camera to a computer over USB. Canon appears to have pulled the new firmware, though, over “issues” that they have not specified. So, if you haven’t updated your firmware yet, then don’t.
