From Bugs To Poison The Weird History Of Fake Blood

Nowadays you can simply buy fake blood, even online. But if you don’t have a high budget and you’re filming the next Texas Chainsaw Massacre – you will probably still want to rely on DIY blood. Ketchup doesn’t really work, so – what’s the perfect recipe? Before cinema and TV, there were only theaters. And in theater, a red handkerchief symbolized blood. However, the directors wanted something less symbolic and more realistic....

Ftc To Crack Down On Social Media Celebrity Advertising Posts

Bloomberg are reporting that the American Federal Trade Commission are cracking down on social media advertising. Users now must be very clear about paid product endorsements. Users are actually required to do this already, but few do. Many advertisers also request that the social media users not mention it. It’s understandable why advertisers wouldn’t want the public to know. They want people to believe that somebody actually likes their product....

Fuji Brings 24Mp And Touchscreen Lcd To Its Entry Level Mirrorless Selfie Camera

Fujifilm has announced its new entry level mirrorless camera. An update to the popular X-A2, the new camera comes with touchscreen, a 24MP sensor, and 60fps video. It’s a respectable little update to the X-A2. The changes seem very few, but they are very nice changes. The market this line is aimed at is obvious. With an LCD that flips up 180 degrees so you can see yourself when stood in front of it, the clues are less than subtle....

Fujifilm Patents A Pair Of Virtual Command Dials For An Analogue Digital Hybrid Ui

The folks over at Fuji Rumors have come across a Fujifilm patent showing a compact camera with two rear dials that synchronise with a top LCD in order to create a pair of virtual dials that can be assigned to different camera functions. Unfortunately, they didn’t link to the actual patent, so we can’t dig any deeper into Fuji’s thought process behind it, but we can speculate. As FR points out, the command dials are similar to that found within the recently released Fujifilm GFX 100, except that there are two of them....

Gallium In A Blender In Slow Motion Looks Like You Re Diving Into A Liquid Mirror Vortex

This is a video of which the T-1000 would certainly approve. In fact, at one point, Dan of The Slow Mo Guys actually says that the scene before them “looks like the T-1000 sneezed in a nightclub”. And he’s not wrong! In this video, Gav and Dan put gallium in a blender and use a Bolt motion control robot arm along with the Laowa 24mm f/14 probe lens to record the swirling vortex of liquid metal....

Getty Bans Ai Generated Art Due To Potential Copyright Issues

Getty Images, one of the biggest stock image platforms, has banned AI-generated images. If you want to upload and sell work you created through DALL-E, Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, or any other text-to-image tool, you won’t be able to do it there. The reason? Potential copyright issues. Getty is concerned about the legality of such content, so they want to protect the site’s customers from unwanted copyright claims. Speaking with The Verge, Getty Images CEO Craig Peters said that “there are real concerns with respect to the copyright of outputs from these models and unaddressed rights issues with respect to the imagery, the image metadata, and those individuals contained within the imagery....

Godox Has Killed Off Its A1 Bluetooth Smartphone Flash Trigger

The Godox smartphone flash and Bluetooth remote control unit, the Godox A1, has been discontinued. The Godox A1 was released in 2017 to quite some fanfare. It was the first device to really let smartphone users shoot images using the speedlights and strobes they already owned – Well, if you had an iPhone or one of a handful of select Android devices you could. Since that initial release, though, and despite users constantly asking for better Android support, it hasn’t really seen many updates....

Godoxphoto Mobile App Offers Flash Control For Your Dslrs Mirrorless Cameras

Five, because there’s one each for Nikon, Canon, Sony, Fuji and Olympus/Panasonic. Releasing a new firmware in and of itself isn’t a big deal, but what is interesting is what this particular release seems to add. Recently we told you about the new Godox A1 flash trigger for mobile devices....

But it seems to have one huge flaw – at least for some users....

Happy Anniversary Eos

Whether you pronounce it “EE-os” (as in the Greek goddess of dawn) or prefer the three-syllable “E-O-S” (as in Electro-Optical System), Canon’s EOS system of automatic-focus cameras and lenses has been with us for thirty years now (March being the actual anniversary), and — I suppose this might fall into the category of “how time flies when you’re having fun” — I’m happy to say I’ve been “with EOS,” both film and digital, for 29 of those thirty years....

He Was 19 He Lived In Oslo And He Used A Spy Cam To Take Street Photos In 1890

When we think of either paparazzi or spy cameras, I believe most of us wouldn’t connect them with the late 19th century. Photographer and scientist Carl Størmer (1874 – 1957) had an unusual and controversial hobby at the time. He was only nineteen years old when he walked around Oslo with a spy camera hidden underneath his vest. He was secretly taking photos of famous men and women of the time....

Here S How To Burst That Double Gel Bubble With Pre Vis

Two things happened to lead to this portrait, a last minute reschedule from a client and a mess around in Set.A.Light 3D Studio. Then it hit me, I could create an idea of a shoot in the program. Then walk downstairs and copy the setup and boom. Sorted. After loading up Set.A.Light and placing down the elements I was going to use. Which was: an octa as a background (which stemmed from my client needing a pure white background and me lacking enough lights / room to make it happen the traditional way)....

Here S How To Make Your Own Film Developing Stock Cubes

In the last couple of months, the whole world it seems was on hold due to the rampages of COVID-19/ Corona Virus. In the Facebook groups I’m in many users were seeing shortages in supply. Some online stores stopped shipping Rodinal (caustic liquid) and other stuff was just not to be found. Adding to this was the fact that a lot of users were not consuming chemistry as quickly and were looking at spoilage/oxidation of partially consumed jugs of developer turning brown on the shelf....
