The black panther has been one of the most iconic creatures the world has ever known. They have such beauty and power, yet are extremely rare to find in the natural world. There had been rumours that at least one was living in the Laikipia region of Kenya, but without any high-quality footage or photographs, confirming their existence was impossible. This led British wildlife photographer, Will Burrard-Lucas on a mission to Africa, to finally capture the majestic big cat on camera in Laikipia Wilderness Camp....

OPPO has announced that they’ve gone into mass production on their new 10x zoom camera module for smartphones and will release a phone utilising it in the second quarter of 2019. It’s a three-camera system which OPPO says is “built to work in perfect harmony” and allows them to offer an equivalent focal length range of 16-160mm – hence, 10x zoom. The three cameras are split into wide angle, normal and telephoto....

A rare Leica 0-Series No. 105 from 1923 recently went up from an auction. As it was Oscar Barnack’s personal camera, it was expected to break the record and fetch $3.3 million. However, it broke all the records and expectations, fetching over $15 million!Advertisements The camera was auctioned at Leitz Photographica Auction on 11 June. As we reported before, it’s a very rare and a very special piece. It’s one of only 23 cameras that were produced to test the market, two years before Leica even officially hit the shelves....

French website Phototrend appears to be going all out in the Micro Four Thirds corner lately. After recently talking to the folks at Olympus about their plans, they’ve also been speaking to Panasonic’s Director of Imaging Business Division, Yosuke, Yamane, about their plans for the format, too. It’s been a while since we’ve really heard anything new from Panasonic about the Micro Four Thirds system since they announced the L Mount Alliance with Leica and Sigma at Photokina 2018....

Panasonic announced that they were working on a new Lumix S 18mm f/1.8 lens for the L mount camera system earlier this month when they announced the launch of the new Lumix S 35mm f/1.8 lens. Now, the company has updated their lens roadmap to include it, knocking off the more generic “large-aperture wide fixed focal length” lens from the previous S series roadmap. There’s no word on exactly when the new lens will appear and simply being added to the lens roadmap doesn’t necessarily mean that it’ll come any time soon, either....

Pablo informs DIYP that he planned the image using the PhotoPills app, and that is was shot from the Magdalena peninsula. That’s exactly what Australian photographer Jon Grundy experienced when a daredevil photographer [name removed] broke into Grundy’s home and stole $15k worth of gear. The thief then used the gear to shoot photos that he offered for sale online in addition to garnering much media attention from his dangerous exploits. But, one thing the thief hadn’t counted on was that each of his photos was meta-tagged with the name of the photographer from whom he stole....

The Telegraph reports that controversial fashion photographer Terry Richardson has been banned from working with Vogue and other leading magazines. They say an email circulating the company this week announced that the company is no longer working with him. They go on to instruct staff that commissioned or already completed, but unpublished work from Richardson should be “killed or substituted with other material”....

Every once in a while, I stumble upon a photography project that stirs up all the emotions in me. It makes me chuckle, then it makes me cry, and it just makes my heart melt. Such is the project Reunions by British photographer Chris Porsz. Chris photographed people back in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. And during 2020 and 2021, he tracked them down and recreated the photos he took decades ago – one of them being nearly 50 years old....

With today’s technology, shooting photos from the air is simple. Send up a drone, and you’re good to go. When drones can’t keep up, there are other methods. Attaching remote control cameras to planes and helicopters has been possible for a while. 40 years ago, though, in 1977, the world was still on film. If you couldn’t see through the viewfinder, you were essentially shooting blind. There are a great many challenges to getting shots like this with no remote control and no view of what you’re shooting....
