Canon got a lot of flak when the EOS R camera with no in-body image stabilisation. Well, it got flak for a lot of things, like the single card slot and ridiculously cropped 4K video mode, but the lack of IBIS was a big one, too. Canon has said previously said that, essentially, they didn’t put IBIS in the EOS R because they didn’t feel that putting it in the body was the right way to go....

Last week, a cosplay photoshoot involving a large fake rifle caused quite a stir on the public Seacliff State Beach in Monterey Bay, California. The costumed model was seen carrying the huge replica gun at the beach, and judging from the photos, nothing indicated that it was fake. DJI have announced the world’s first Super 35mm digital camera designed specifically for aerial cinematography. The Zenmuse X7. It shoots 6K CinemaDNG raw video at up to 30fp. The X7 also features a new DJI Cinema Color System to maximise its 14 stops of dynamic range. For aerial photographers, it’s also capable of capturing 24 megapixel RAW stills. Super 35mm means it’s an APS-C sized sensor. Currently, it’s only compatible with the DJI Inspire 2 drone, although future compatibility with other products is expected in the future....
Most of us have been taught that sharks are scary and that we should fear them. But photographer Scott Fairchild shows us that sharks and humans can coexist in peace. He recently captured drone footage showing two surfers and a great white shark swimming near each other in perfect harmony. Scott explains that he sees great whites every day, especially at this time of the year. “They’re mostly juveniles, mostly 5-9 feet long,” he explains....

According to a new report from market research company NPD, “premium” drone dollar sales are up. And up in a big way. They’ve more than doubled on the previous year, rising by 117%. DxO has announced DxO PureRaw 2 which brings with it some pretty big performance increases, with a 50% speed boost on Windows and runs up to four times faster on Apple Silicon-based Macs. The new release also adds support for Fujifilm’s X-Trans files, promising “demosaicing and denoising like you’ve never seen before” that “corrects every possible lens defect”. Like the previous version, PureRAW 2 uses convolutional neural networks to perform the demosaicing and denoising process....
Stock photo search engine Everypixel is a tool that should make the quest for perfect stock photos easier. But what’s even more interesting is their tool called Everypixel Aesthetics. It uses neural networks to tell you how “awesome” your photo is. According to the developers, this tool sees the beauty of stock photos in the same way as humans do. So before you buy a stock image or upload one of your own, you can run it through this quick test and see what neural network has to say about it....
Last night, I received an email from EyeEm about a “data security incident.” 22 million accounts have been compromised, exposing the users’ names, email addresses, and encrypted versions of passwords. However, EyeEm wasn’t the only victim of this data breach. It’s the same one that hit 500px, and it also affected 25 million users of Animoto. EyeEm writes that they became aware of a data security incident only recently, despite the fact that it happened on 5 July 2018....
I will begin by saying that my intention is not to attack Steve McCurry or defame him in any manner. It is only an attempt to clear certain facts that have come to light regarding his work and to also raise certain questions on aspects that may or may not have been missed, but certainly have not been expressed till now, atleast not publicly. One of the things I was most interested in checking out during The Photography Show were the new Sigma lens offerings. One pitch-side photographer went viral during the UK versus USA match yesterday when one cheeky player used his outfit as a towel to wipe his sweaty hands on. USA’s Weston McKennie left viewers perplexed when he approached the photographer before a long throw and used him as a paper towel. The game culminated in a 0-0 draw, and was apparently not too exciting to watch....
