Micron Pushes Through The 1Tb Barrier With The New Micron I400 1 5Tb Microsd Card

Anybody who knows me knows I’m a fan of big storage, especially when it comes to small storage. After 1TB SD cards were first shown off at Photokina 2016, it took a couple of years to come to market. But in 2019, they did and we’ve reviewed both the SanDisk Extreme Pro 1TB microSD (review here) and the Silicon Power Superior 1TB microSD (review here) cards here on DIYP. While 1TB microSD cards still seem pretty insane, the devices that support them can actually handle cards up to 2TB....

Nasa S Orion Spacecraft Sends Back First Detailed Photos Of The Moon

NASA’s Artemis I mission has been under the spotlight lately, and we recently saw Orion’s stunning video of the Earth “setting” behind the moon. On its sixth flight day, the spacecraft took detailed shots of the moon’s surface. NASA shared it with the public so that you can look up close at our home planet’s natural satellite. Orion took the photos with its optical navigation camera. As you can see, the images show the craters on the moon in black and white....

Nasa Simulates Dji Phantom Airflow To Improve Quadcopter Design

NASA has used computer models to simulate airflow for decades. It lets them test to see how aircraft will react to drag, friction and countless other forces. All important factors when it comes to designing the next generation of vehicles. At NASA’S Ames Research Center in Silicon Valley, the technique was recently used to check out the airflow around quadcopters. Specifically, the DJI Phantom 3. Unlike NASA’s typical rocket powered aircraft, quadcopters rely on four spinning motors with propellers to generate thrust....

New Firmware Brings 8K 4 2 2 10 Bit Video And Lossless Compressed Raw To The Sony A1

Sony has released a new Version 1.3 firmware update for its flagship Sony Alpha A1 mirrorless camera. The new update brings 8K 4:2:2 10-bit video recording capabilities from 8.6K oversampling. While the Sony A1 did already have 10-bit recording capabilities, it was only 4:2:0, so the new update offers a lot more latitude in post for colour correction and grading as well as for tools like chroma-keying. The Sony A1 also receives lossless compressed raw format still files, although the A1 isn’t the only camera to see a new firmware update....

Nikon To Close Chinese Factory As Compact Camera Market Continues To Shrink

It’s not much of a surprise that the compact camera market is getting a little more “compact”. It’s been coming for years. Global compact camera sales are down to less than a tenth of their peak. And it’s all thanks to smartphones. The cameras we carry with us all day, every day. While smartphones aren’t killing DSLR sales, the opposite, in fact, they are destroying compacts. The Nikkei reports that Nikon are now closing one of their factories in China....

No Tripod No Problem A Lazy Approach To Overhead Photography

Living on the 9th floor in my apartment, anything that gets left in the car, stays in the car. Even if I later “suddenly” remember that I need it while I am at home. Having the enormous responsibility of my project 365, this is usually bad news for me. I knew that I was going to take a picture of one of my guitars because I had planned to. The only problem is, I wanted a table top....

Ok We Get It You Shot It With Your Phone

Ok, we get it. You shot it with your phone. You brought your DSLR, but you fell into a fountain and waterlogged all your gear. The repair estimate was nearly $2000, except you went to Thailand and got it fixed for $120. Good thing you had your iPhone. The quality was so good that your client, a barber named Steve who has never paid for photography, couldn’t tell the difference....

Opera Browser Now Comes With Built In Instagram

Instagram recently made it possible to send messages and watch live streams through a browser. And Opera wants to make it even more accessible. This browser now comes with a built-in Instagram icon in the sidebar to make it faster and simpler to access the app. There are several browsers out there and I guess each of them wants to draw more users by offering certain features. It seems that this is Opera’s attempt to do so....

Pentax Reported To Be Working On A Second New Aps C Video Focused Dslr

According to a brief post over on Pentax Rumors, Ricoh is rumoured to be working on a second Pentax APS-C DSPR in addition to the long-awaited new flagship APS-C DSLR that’s had Pentax shooters excited for months. A tweet back in April said that Ricoh has no plans to take Pentax down the mirrorless rabbit hole, instead choosing to stick with DSLRs. It’s been a while since their last solid release, so if Ricoh was planning to make a statement, announcing two new DSLRs in rapid succession would certainly seem to make one....

Photo Story A Girl Is An Unlikely Star Of The Last Pagan Ritual In Europe

Asher Svidensky is one of those photographers whose photos you see once and remember for years. This is why I was thrilled to learn that he photographed Kukeri, often described as one of the last pagan rituals in Europe. For this photo project, Asher traveled to Razlog village in Bulgaria, photographing minacious-looking costumes of the Kukeri rituals. And as if the ritual itself wasn’t interesting enough – Asher’s story revolves around “The Monstress of Razlog,” a girl who’s a very unlikely star of this predominantly male tradition....

Photographer Called Out Over Creepy Sexual Arousal Clause In Model Release Form

Well, this is one of the more disgusting photography-related bits of news I’ve heard lately. A Melbourne, Australia based photographer has been called out online after a photo was shared online of his “Consent and Release Form” which includes a “sexual arousal” clause and an agreement for “comfortable” models to “participate in sexual activity”. It is claimed that this is the contact he presents to models, which they must sign in order for a shoot to happen....

So, he has turned to social media for help, and despite his tweet getting viral – the couple still hasn’t been identified....

Photographer Combines Luck And Skill In This Incredible Double Rainbow And Lightning Shot

Most of you knows photographer Jason Rinehart for his light painting work. While he’s passionate about creating art with lights and long exposure, he is equally crazy about capturing nature’s natural light work: thunderstorms. While scrolling through Facebook recently, I stumbled upon a perfect example of Jason’s passion I didn’t know so much about. He captured a lightning strike under a rainbow, which is not something you see every day....

Photographer Creates Painterly Masterpieces Inspired By The Old Masters

I would probably need an infinite number of counting beads to count how many times a photographer says they are trying to capture the master painters of old in their work. But one photographer embodies this style whilst infusing it with their own master touch more than any other. Meet Gemmy Woud-Binnendijk, one of the sweetest people you will ever meet and a master of portraits! I first saw Gemmy’s work a few years ago and was blown away by the attention to detail and subtle touches....

Photographer Gets Dogpiled At World Cup Semifinal And Keeps Taking Photos

At the FIFA 2018 World Cup semifinal, the match between England and Croatia ended up with Croatia winning. While celebrating the winning goal, Croatian soccer players crashed into the AFP photojournalist Yuri Cortez. But the photographer kept his cool, kept on shooting, and ended up with some great shots. After scoring the second (and winning) goal, the players crushed into photographers and dog-piled Cortez. Although it all seems completely chaotic, no one got hurt, and the photographer stayed professional all the way....
