Last year, lighting gel company, Rosco acquired LED lighting specialists DMG Lumière. Although only founded in 2014, DMG Lumière was quickly recognised for its innovative products for film, television and broadcast. We all knew at the time that this would be an interesting mix of companies and talent that would probably go on to produce something quite special. Now, it seems, they have. The Rosco MIX, is a new colour changing LED panel based on DMG Lumière’s previous form factors....

The Royal Photographic Society has released the online version of all its Journals. Since the first issue was published in 1853, it’s a whole lot of priceless material now available for you to browse through. And the best thing is – it’s completely free. The RPS Journal has been published since 1853, which makes it the oldest continuously published photographic periodical in the world. Can you imagine all the history it has been preserved among these pages?...

Samyang brought autofocus into their range of lenses not too long ago with two new Sony E mount lenses. The 14mm f/2.8 and 50mm f/1.4. Now, in a recent interview with Focus Numerique, Samyang head of product planning, Jeong Min Shin says that more are to come. In the interview, he talked about some of the decisions and compromises that had to be made with the new Sony lenses. But he also suggested that Nikon and Canon autofocus lenses may not be too far away....

Sigma has now officially announced the totally-already-leaked Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG DN Art series lens for Sigma/Panasonic/Leica L mount and Sony E mount mirrorless cameras. Essentially replacing the 9-year-old Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art, Sigma says that the new lens has been redesigned from the ground up, optimised for today’s mirrorless systems. Of course, at the moment that’s only two mirrorless systems. L and E mounts. There’s no word on when or if we can expect this lens to come to Z and RF mounts at some point....

When Smartta announced the original SliderMini camera slider in 2018, we were all quite excited. It was launched on Indiegogo and for what they were selling for, it offered some fantastic features. Well, this is a bit of an embarrassment. Taiwan’s new e-passports have been released, and then quickly recalled after a picture of Dulles Airport, near Washington D.C., was printed as the backdrop to one of its pages. Mashable believes that it may be the result of a Google Images search screw-up, which shows a photograph of Dulles Airport on a search for Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport. The mix up was posted to twitter by 張Will, stating that the passports will be recalled....

Tamron has announced the 17-70mm F/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD, a fast-aperture standard zoom lens for Fuji X-mount APS-C mirrorless cameras. With the fast(ish) aperture and the 25.5-105mm-equivalent focal length range, Tamron markets it as “the world’s first wide range 4.1x standard zoom lens.” For Fuji X at least. So, let’s jump right in and see what this lens has to offer. If the lens sounds familiar, that’s because it is....

A 16-year-old girl in Malaysia took her own life on Tuesday after conducting an Instagram poll to decide whether she should live or die. Reportedly, 69% of people had voted for “die,” which reportedly prompted the teen to end her life.Advertisements According to multiple sources, the girl posted a poll reading: “Really important, help me choose D/L.” Apparently, “D” stood for “death” and “L” for “life”. After 69% of people voted for “D,” the girl allegedly took her own life....

Currently on display at CES 2018 is the new Removu K1 4K handheld gimbal. Similar in style to the DJI Osmo, with a built-in camera instead of stabilizing your phone or a DSLR, the K1 has one distinct advantage. It features a built-in 1.5″ LCD monitor to show you what that camera’s actually seeing. Originally backed through Indiegogo, the Removu K1 is now on general sale. While this size of LCD certainly isn’t going to compete with your phone, it’s not that different from those typically found in action cameras....

We need a rig that is robust, easy to carry around, and that adapts to various conditions. This rig has gone through many changes over the years, this is what it is now. Funny fact, on the latest photokina, we went to see the Black magic booth. They featured supermodel Jen Brook, so we went to say hi, and put the rig almost hidden to the side....

I’ve posted about Cameradactyl before, last year when their 4×5 camera was posted up to Kickstarter. At the time I had one or two issues with that project, which you can read about on that post, but now Cameradactyl is back with a new camera. This time it’s the Brancopan, a 35mm panoramic camera, and their plan is a little different this time. Instead of selling the actual camera, this time they’re selling the STL files; the “blueprints” to let people print and make their own....

Personally, I’d still rather use a lab wherever possible, but when you’re in a rush or need to print off some quick proofs, having a quality printer in-house can be invaluable....

The FAA has announced dates for when their new tightened drone regulations (revised from an initial proposal in December 2019) will start to take effect. Not all of the rules are coming in at once, however, taking a staggered approach that sees completion in September 2023 – shorter than originally planned, but still gives pilots and manufacturers plenty of time to comply. Coming in on April 21st are the Remote ID and Operations Over People rules....

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a kinegram. While the term “kinegram” wasn’t really coined until the late 1990s, the process has actually been around since the 1890s. I remember they seemed to be quite popular in some kids’ toys in the 1980s before the world started getting more digital and then they kind of disappeared for the most part. But as with a lot of old tech returning to popular culture, it looks like the kinegram is back, too....

New firmware updates have been released for Nikon Z5, Z6, and Z7 mirrorless cameras. However, you may want to wait with the update if you shoot the Z6 or Z7. Nikon has issued a warning reading that the 3.10 and 3.11 firmware versions will mess up your autofocus fine-tune. “An issue has been identified in firmware versions 3.10 and 3.11 in which fine-tuning values selected for AF fine-tune > Saved value are not correctly applied when pictures are taken,” Nikon writes and apologizes....

Samsung has announced their newest portable SSD, the Samsung T7 Shield. Now, on first glance, especially given the name, it might just sound like a regular Samsung T7 drive in a fancy rugged enclosure and… Well, yeah, that’s pretty much exactly what it is. But now that the world is opening back up and photographers and filmmakers are getting back on the road to start shooting in extreme locations, backup storage that can handle those extreme conditions is handy....

While more commonly known for their filters and their upcoming cine lenses, NiSi recently announced their new NM-180 Macro Focusing Rail. Focusing rails are essential pieces of kit for serious macro photographers that allow them to create images that might otherwise be impossible, but how well does the new NiSi NM-180 stack up? Maybe pun intended. I’ve been using the NiSi Macro Focusing Rail for a few weeks now. The short version of this review is that for what it costs, it’s an extremely well-made device, that has some thoughtful design considerations and does exactly what it’s supposed to....
