Google Says Its Phone Cameras Will Take More Flattering Photos Of Dark Skin

At this week’s Google I/O, Android VP Sameer Samat announced some major changes in the camera app. Apparently, Google is working to make its Android camera more versatile, more inclusive, and more flattering to darker skin tones and different hair types.Advertisements “Pictures are deeply personal and play an important role in shaping how people see you and how you see yourself,” Google writes. “But historical biases in the medium of photography have carried through to some of today’s camera technologies, leading to tools that haven’t seen people of color as they want and ought to be seen....

Haida S New Proii 2 In 1 Cpl Vnd Lets You Control Polarisation Separately From Neutral Density

Variable ND filters aren’t exactly a new thing. Neither are polarisers. In fact, without polarisers, variable ND filters wouldn’t even exist. Pretty much all variable ND filters are the result of cross-polarisation, stacking two polarising filters on top of each other with their relative angles to each other controlling the light that goes through. As such, all Variable ND filters are also polarisers. But most have one big problem. You can’t rotate the polarisation....

How And When To Ask For Photography Advice

It turns out that the email wasn’t from a student, although the sender could probably benefit from signing up for the school. And without wishing to belittle the sender, if you can wade through the hyperbole of desperation, it’s probably worth unpicking. I think there’s a great deal woven into the letter that people wanting to seek advice can learn from it. I’ve redacted the sender’s name, but otherwise this is the email as I received it:...

How Focus Stacking Can Help You To Get Super Sharp Landscapes

Focus stacking is a popular technique for macro photographers. But did it ever occur to you to try it with landscapes? No? Nor me. But it makes a lot of sense, depending on the look you’re after. Although landscapes are often shot with ultra wide angle lenses, they can also be made at much longer focal lengths. I like to do this myself with a 70-200 f/2.8, but that means you start to see the effects of depth of field....
