A lot of work goes into designing wine labels and the photography of the bottles, even just the boring old e-commerce shots on white, are actually quite technical. UK based commercial photographer Del Vincent came up with a very clever way to show exactly how he photographs wine bottles, and what each light and reflector card does on each part of the bottle....

We reviewed the Samyang 18mm FE in February, but that was too late for the milky way season. From the middle of August, it is sufficiently dark in southern parts of Norway to shoot the stars. We have a rather modest window every month where the moon doesn’t wash out the stars. During that time we need to get lucky with clouds. A couple weeks ago I was sitting on the top of a cliff in the dark setting up an eMotimo Spectrum St4 to test out the new gigapixel feature – and I ended up with an unexpected surprise. Due to user error, I photographed a sequence of photos where the Spectrum’s movement was out of sync with the camera shutter – resulting in the Spectrum moving to the next image in the sequence while the shutter was open....

Japanese lens manufacturer MS Optics has released Aporia 24mm F2, a pancake lens for Leica M-mount. While all pancake lenses are slim and compact, this one is as slim as a lens cap. But it’s a “lens cap” that produces pretty neat photos. The MS Optics Aporia 24mm F2 measures 50mm (2”) in diameter and it’s only 5.8mm (0.23”) thick. But despite its compact size, it packs six elements in four groups, including low dispersion elements....

No, it’s not the back view of Patrick Stewert’s head. Nor is it a cricket ball that was lost in 1926 and spent the rest of its life hidden under a hedge on the village green. Nope, what you’re looking at instead is actually one of Jupiter’s 80 moons. This is an image of Europa released by NASA and taken by its Juno mission. Observations from the spacecraft’s pass of the moon provided the first close-up in over two decades of this ocean world, resulting in remarkable imagery and unique science....

We’ve seen many remarkable photos and videos of the solar eclipse. But have you ever seen what it looks like from Mars? Well, NASA’s Perseverance rover captured a video of it, and absolutely stunning. Perseverance shot a video of Phobos, one of Mars’ two moons, as it was eclipsing the sun. And according to NASA, this is the best video of the subject that’s been captured so far. The rover used its Mastcam-Z camera system to shoot eclipse video....

DxO announced DxO DeepPRIME, which it describes as “an artificial intelligence technology dedicated to editing photos in RAW format.” Adobe just made AI a major centerpiece in the latest version of Photoshop, declaring that Photoshop is “the world’s most advanced AI application for creatives....

Well, it turns out that Canon is making their own sensor for the Canon EOS R3 after all. After a wording change on various Canon websites last month suggested that it was designed by them but manufactured by somebody else – possibly Sony – Canon has done something they almost never do. They’ve publicly addressed a rumour. As well as the wording change, an interview with Canon Russia’s Head of Product and Consumer Expertise, Andrey Tischenko by Russian photography website PhotoWebExpo points out that the first Canon camera to contain a stacked sensor was the G7X Mark III – which contains a Sony sensor....
