And these companies are generally pretty secretive about new releases, right up until they’re ready to announce them. One of the biggest names in gimbals is Zhiyun, who was pretty much an instant hit since they introduced their first Zhiyun Crane back in 2016, and they’ve been going from strength to strength ever since....

But now they’re back with the new and improved CamFi Pro, which boasts the fastest wireless transfer speeds of any such system. Last month, there was word floating around that Canon was about to announce updates to their popular 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II and 70-200mm f/4L IS lenses. Well, Canon has now officially announced those updates. The two new lenses are, not surprisingly, the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III and 70-200mm f/4L IS II. They’re not that different from their predecessors on-paper. In fact, the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III looks almost identical to the II except that it has 9 diaphragm blades instead of 8, and it weighs a few grams less....

Canon has released new firmware updates for the Canon EOS R5 and EOS R6 mirrorless cameras. The EOS R5 specifically sees some AF accuracy optimisation when using the recently announced Canon RF 800mm f/5.6L IS USM and RF 1200mm f/8L IS USM lenses with the RF1.4x and RF2x teleconverters. Both cameras, however, see improvements to the stability and reliability of Eye Detection autofocus as well as AF tracking for moving subjects....

This is a day that many will mourn. While the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro is by far the more popular lens, the Canon MP-E 65mm f/2.8 1-5x Macro is certainly the more unique and more revered amongst many macro photographers. Offering up to 5x magnification, it certainly stood out amongst the others on the market – for any camera system. Well now, it appears that Canon has finally discontinued it, accordin to the Canon Japan website....

A new Canon patent application has popped up on the Japan Patent Office website detailing six new RF mount prime lenses ranging in focal length from 70mm up to 100mm. With the exception of an 85mm f/1.8, all of the lenses sport an f/2 aperture. So, they’re not super fast (with perhaps the exception of one), but they’re faster than zooms, yet slow enough to potentially be relatively low budget lenses....

Companies put out patents for new stuff all the time, and Canon have filed 4,134 of them, many of which will never actually exist in reality, but every now and again, one comes along that looks gives a very strong indicator for eventual release. Patent No. 2016-102852, reported by Canon Rumors, appears to show that Canon have developed an optical formula to build a massive EF 1000mm f/5.6 DO lens....

Well, Canon did it. They actually released a full-frame mirrorless lens designed for entry level users with a cost comparable to its DSLR counterpoint. Yes, that’s right, we’re talking about the Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM. Coming in at a measly $199, this is quite possibly the cheapest full-frame mirrorless lens on the market for any system that actually comes from a camera manufacturer. The lack of inexpensive lenses to attract newer or lower budget users into the full-frame mirrorless market (especially when there are full-frame cameras under $1K) has been one of the biggest complaints about all the new systems that have come out over the last couple of years....

Memory cards and camera batteries are often a target of counterfeiters. However, it seems that lenses are not spared of this either. Canon has announced that some of the lenses brought into their service center for repair are fake. The counterfeited model is EF 50mm f/1.8 II. Regarding this issue, they advise the users how to recognize the counterfeit lenses. Unfortunately, the exterior of fake lenses is difficult to differentiate from the original....

I’ve made this joke many times, but nobody laughed. It made sense to me. Glasses are lenses. Lenses need to be clean in order to perform their function. If you a photographer has dirty eyeglasses, how could you possibly trust them?But I missed something important. For one, glasses that are dirty are still better than no glasses at all. I should know.
