DaVinci Resolve just keeps getting better and better with each new announcement. A long time staple for cinematic colour correction & grading, Resolve recently started adding editing capabilities. Those still have a little way to go, but they’re coming along nicely. Today, though, they’ve announced that DaVinci Resolve is now available for Linux. As well as the earlier URSA Mini Pro announcement, Blackmagic Design have also released two new control panels for DaVinci Resolve....

In the Bulgarian city of Plovdiv, local politicians are seeking to cancel a photography exhibition because if features LGBT themes. The exhibition, titled Balkan Pride, is due to open in July. However, some politicians claim that they are ready to use both legal and illegal means to prevent it from being opened. Plovdiv is co-hosting the 2019 edition of the European capital of culture along with Matera in Italy. Aside from the photo exhibition, Balkan Pride is set to include a concert and a public discussion as a part of the program....

I have this theory that you have to eat fast food at least a couple of times a year just to remind yourself of how awful it really is. “Surely it’s not so bad,” you think after a few months, and the photos actually look pretty good. But we all know that the reality of those seemingly succulent burgers topped with crisp lettuce and shiny tomatoes is very different. So it’s no surprise then that some Florida lawyers are suing Burger King in a class-action lawsuit....

Canon’s 1200mm f/5.6 is generally regarded as the stuff of myth and legend. Of course, the lens exists, but there are so few of them out there that the vast majority of us will never even see one in person, let alone get to try one. Originally manufactured in very limited quantities by special order only in the 1990s, it came with the princely sum of around $90,000 and it’s estimated that only around 20 were ever made....

It seems that Canon is planning to finally introduce an actual pro body to their EOS R mirrorless lineup in 2021. According to a report on Nikkan, one of Japan’s main news sources, early prototypes have already been manufactured and are being tested. They don’t say much about the new camera, just that it will use a full-frame sensor, be released in 2021, it’ll have a higher price than the EOS R, and that a prototype has already been made....

According to the Canon Singapore website, the Canon Digital Photo Professional Express app for the iPad will require a monthly subscription fee from October 2019. The full details have not yet been released, with more to come soon. Right now, they just say that as of version 1.2.0, it will be subscription only. Released in October last year, DPP Express has been a free app so far, for the iPad only....

Many things have troubled me this past year. Global warming, war, consumerism, my beard that seems to grow ginger past a certain length…..but right above those, at the top of the list is Adobes new Select and Mask feature. Why? Because it just doesn’t work! No matter how many times I try, how many sliders I change, it just doesn’t create the great selections I was used to with Refine Edge....

There have been quite a lot of memes over the years about client budget vs expectation, but these examples from Paris based comedian Alex Ramires are absolute genius. His low budget The Little Mermaid is hilarious. It’s pretty much a shot for shot remake of a song from the movie, with some pretty perfect camera work and the most amazing terrible props you’ve ever seen in your life. As obviously cheap as it is, the attention to detail is impressive....

Some wild animals are so incredibly cute that you just want to pick them up and hug them. Many of us know that it’s not good for them, but more and more tourists in Costa Rica ignore this and pick up animals to take selfies. Due to an increased number of selfies that people take with wild animals, the Costa Rican Tourism Institute started a campaign to stop people from doing it....

Here comes the first 8K monitor at a staggering price of $5,000 or roughly 66 pixels/cent. This price point can only complete with the UP3218K crazy resolution of 7680×4320 pixels. The monitor was announced in January at CES, and is now dubbed the “world’s first consumer 8K monitor”. Dell’s UP3218K boasts a 31.5 inch IPS panel, which put is in the 280 pixels per inch realm. If you look at the other specs, it’s obvious that this monitor is aiming for the high-end and premium users....

Arcadia owns Burton, Dorothy Perkins, Evans, Miss Selfridge, Topshop, and a number of other big UK high street chains that were recently sent into administration, putting over 13,000 jobs at risk....

The journey of Triggertrap has been eventful one. A small startup with a promising future, releasing some great products. It made them an instant hit. Working on hitting the trifecta, Tamron has released a new lens which includes a very respectable 70-210mm focal range, a quality packaged compact footprint, and a price targeted at starting shooters. The folks at Midwest Photo and Tamron were kind enough to provide me with a pre-release copy, so I happily took it for a spin.
