A detailed and accurate face mapping is a complex task. It requires a series of photos with ideal and consistent lighting from different angles. If you want to capture all the details and imperfections of the face, you need professional lighting and multiple shots. However, a group of researches is on the way of changing this method. Researchers Hao Li, Shunsuke Saito, Lingyu Wei, Koki Nagano, and Liwen Hu use deep neural networks to create detailed and quite accurate 3D models using a single 2D photo....

Well, this is interesting. I knew that most optical image stabilisation systems in lenses used electromagnetic fields in order to try and keep the elements steady. But what I hadn’t considered was how these fields might affect noise on the sensor and in the images. As it turns out, it affects them enough to warrant Canon developing a new system to help reduce it. The folks over at Canon Watch spotted the patent, which seems to help reduce the magnetic field created by lens stabilisation....

Samsung and Apple have been major competitors when it comes to their smartphone cameras. And in its latest set of Galaxy S21 Ultra ads, Samsung decided to play dirty. The company calls out on iPhone 12 Pro Max telling the viewers that their “phone upgrade shouldn’t be a downgrade.” Samsung US published three ads to advertise some of the Galaxy S21 Ultra’s key camera features. These include the 100x “space zoom,” 108 MP camera that captures greater detail, and “Single Take,” a feature that captures videos and photos with one click....

Sony’s been teasing us with their new Airpeak drone system for almost six months now. Initially announced in November, Airpeak is designed specifically as an aerial platform for creators. These aren’t the hobby drones we might be used to, as Sony demonstrated in January of this year with the first full view of the drone with a Sony mirrorless camera mounted below. Now, they’ve released a new teaser video showing some of the testing that they’re putting the drone through....

Despite the compact market largely dying to smartphones, there are a few exceptions out there that still manage to survive. Well, this one’s come just in time for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, huh? While Canon seems to be dumping EF, Nikon isn’t abandoning the F mount. Nikon has now announced their new AF-S 120-300mm f/2.8E FL ED SR VR lens, costing a whopping $9,496.95. It looks like an absolute monster of a lens, but ideally suited to shooting the kinds of sports they’re going to be having in Tokyo this year, as well as all the usual sporting events....

After releasing the first teaser for the Nikon Z9 last week, Nikon has now released another, showing off its wildlife shooting capabilities. And while the teaser doesn’t really reveal any specs about the new camera, it also seems to possibly tease the anticipated Nikkor Z 100-400mm lens that’s expected to be announced this year. One thing we do see in the teaser, though, is that there’s no 30-minute filming limit, and the video suggests that there’s no overheating issues, either, showing video capture with the Z9 shooting 4320p (that’s 8K) for up to an hour and twenty minutes – which is pretty impressive in the middle of what looks like sub-Saharan Africa....

Judging from the latest reports, Nikon will kick off the New Year with not one, but four new products. Other than the previously mentioned D780, we could see one more camera and two lenses soon. A new consumer-grade 360° camera is coming to the market soon from Vecnos, a new startup spun out of Ricoh. While it looks like it will wipe your memories (Men in Black, anyone?), it actually saves them in the form of 360° images. Back in 2020, Olympus sold its camera and imaging business after a series of rumors. In 2021, Olympus’s imaging business belonged to OM Digital Solutions, and word started to spread that the company would fully rebrand from Olympus. And now, it’s happening, OM Digital Solutions has announced that Olympus is no more. Other than the upcoming gear, even the existing models will from now on be a part of the “OM System....

In 2015, he won a National Geographic Young Explorers grant, which is when his “Green Meteor” photo was taken. He wanted to shoot a nighttime timelapse of Mettupalayam, a small town in south India, to document its urbanization. So he set up his Nikon D600 with an intervalometer that would capture 15-second exposures every 10 seconds. It was late at night, so he set everything up and went to sleep....
