Sightron Japan has announced five new Player One Astronomy astrophotography cameras, expected to be released next week, named after the planets in accordance with the size of each of their sensors. If you’re in the market for a new lens, it may be hard to decide whether to go for a third-party option, or stick with the same brand as your camera. The Sigma Art series has received a lot of praise, and photographer Julia Trotti put it to a test. She used the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 Art and compared it to the Canon 85mm f/1.2L II. Silicon Power 1Tb Superior Microsd Card Faster Than Sandisk At Less Than Half The Price

Many of you know I’m a fan of big memory cards. Sometimes you just need a lot of tiny portable storage. Some of you might have seen my thoughts on the SanDisk Extreme Pro 1TB microSD card (review here), and it’s still going strong as both a portable backup card and for shooting footage in my Insta360 cameras. So, when Silicon Power reached out to me to try their 1TB Silicon Power Superior microSD card, suggesting that it was just as quick but less expensive than the SanDisk, I had to see for myself....

Smartphone Vs Camera Why Is This Still A Problem

It’s 2018 and it blows my mind that we still have to choose between using a smartphone camera and a real camera. Why hasn’t a single camera manufacturer added mobile data and standard smartphone apps to a real camera? Why hasn’t a single smartphone manufacturer made a smartphone with a real camera attached to it? How hard can this possibly be? In this article, I will outline what I want in a smartphone/camera hybrid and why I think it would be an instant success....

Sony Announces New Oled Microdisplay For Evfs

Sony has just announced the upcoming release of the ECX339A OLED Microdisplay. They claim it’s the best in its class, and it’s twice as good as the previous model in every respect. Sony’s EVF is arguably among the best reasons why many photographers switched to the mirrorless system. Will this new microdisplay convert even more DSLR hardliners? Time will tell. The new EVF promises faster refresh and better image quality than the current display....

There has been talk for a little while that Sony is working on adding more bodies to its vlogging-based ZV line of cameras. Some expected a new camera to come in the Spring of this year, but that didn’t happen. Fresh rumours, though, seem to suggest that it might be coming in August (although they admit that date is speculation) and contain a stacked BSI CMOS sensor like the Sony A1 and A9 II....

Stop Caring About Other Photographers Work And Start Shooting What You Like

Just like fashion, photography has its own trends too. And more often than not, you’ll see people who follow trends get more feedback and recognition on social media. Does this mean you should follow trends too? Should you rely on other people’s work? According to Steve O’Nions, this is not the path to take. In this video, he discusses why you should take photos your way and stop caring about how others do it....

Stunning 4K Video Of The Aurora Borealis And Stars Shot From The International Space Station

When it comes to giving us amazing views of the earth and space, few do it better than NASA, and this one’s going to take some effort to beat. NASA seem to have well and truly boarded and taken residence on the 4K bandwagon, and with footage like this, it’s easy to see why. Having never actually managed to see them from here in the UK (on the rare occasion they are actually visible here, the sky’s usually covered in cloud), the views from up there must be incredible to see in person....

Stupidly Wide The Laowa 9Mm F5 6 W Dreamer On The Sigma Fp

I’m no stranger to a wide-angle lens, back in my crop Pentax days I used to love shooting my old Samyang 8mm Fisheye, and more recently with my Sigma fp I’ve been enjoying the 14-24mm f2.8. On a full-frame sensor 14mm is already really wide, so imagen my excitement when Laowa asked me to try their 9mm f5.6 W-Dreamer lens. Now, this isn’t the first time this lens has been covered here....

Tamron has announced the Tamron 50-400mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III VC VXD, a new, versatile zoom that wants to be your go-to lens for any shooting situation. The focal length range is pretty unusual; dare I say groundbreaking. Starting at the standard 50mm rather than 100mm, this lens differs from other ultra-telephoto zooms you’ll find in the market. While the zoom and the focal length range sound tempting, there are some drawbacks as well....

Tamron Is Leaving Two Of Its Factories Closed Due To Decreased Demand

Like other companies, Tamron also seems to be struggling with the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic. The company has recently confirmed that its two major companies will remain closed throughout 2020. According to a press release, the reason for this decision is “decreased worldwide demand.” Hirosaki and Namioka factories, both in Japan’s Aomori prefecture, have been out of operation since May. They were supposed to be reopened on 1 October, but Tamron said that they’ll remain closed until 31 December 2020....

It looks like DJI might have some competition in the license-free (in many countries) sub-250g market. Hubsan has just announced their new Zino Mini SE drone and it looks quite impressive. It’s a clear response from Hubsan to the recently launched DJI Mini SE, and while it does cost slightly more than DJI’s drone, it offers some nice improvements.
