Sightron Japan has announced five new Player One Astronomy astrophotography cameras, expected to be released next week, named after the planets in accordance with the size of each of their sensors. The Sony-made sensors inside each camera are either 1/2.8″ for the Mars variants and 1/1.8″ for the Neptune models and each is designed for a specific set of sky-gazing tasks. Each of the five cameras is equipped with a mechanism that can tilt the sensor to reduce Newton ring issues that occur when photographing the sun and each features 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM to offer stable data flow transfer....

If you’re in the market for a new lens, it may be hard to decide whether to go for a third-party option, or stick with the same brand as your camera. The Sigma Art series has received a lot of praise, and photographer Julia Trotti put it to a test. She used the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 Art and compared it to the Canon 85mm f/1.2L II. Sigma has scheduled a live Sigma Stage event on their YouTube channel for June 1st. The video description says that there are “new products” (plural) on the way. According to the official announcement on the Sigma Global website, however, the event is scheduled to only last for 30 minutes. So, if it is going to be multiple products, they’re probably going to be rushing through them quite quickly and I doubt there’ll be anything groundbreaking....

Photos were leaked a week ago and then the specs for one of them came out a couple of days later, but now they’re official. Sigma has unveiled their new I (upper case “i”) series compact lenses. They’re designed for full-frame mirrorless cameras and to be as small and compact as possible. They’re also relatively inexpensive (compared to their Art series lenses). The range kicks off with three new lenses (and absorbs an existing one)....

Many of you know I’m a fan of big memory cards. Sometimes you just need a lot of tiny portable storage. Some of you might have seen my thoughts on the SanDisk Extreme Pro 1TB microSD card (review here), and it’s still going strong as both a portable backup card and for shooting footage in my Insta360 cameras. So, when Silicon Power reached out to me to try their 1TB Silicon Power Superior microSD card, suggesting that it was just as quick but less expensive than the SanDisk, I had to see for myself....

Sirui has announced a new line of full-frame cine lenses known as the Jupiter series. The line is kicking off with four lenses including a 24mm T2, 35mm T3 and 50mm T2 prime lenses, all of which are macro lenses, as well as a 28-85mm T3.2 full-frame cine zoom. And, like pretty much all Sirui lenses, they’re being crowdfunded and launched via Indiegogo. The three primes match each other in physical dimension, for easy switching out on camera rigs, with what they say is minimal focus breathing and will have a 92mm filter thread....

Sony has just announced the upcoming release of the ECX339A OLED Microdisplay. They claim it’s the best in its class, and it’s twice as good as the previous model in every respect. Sony’s EVF is arguably among the best reasons why many photographers switched to the mirrorless system. Will this new microdisplay convert even more DSLR hardliners? Time will tell. The new EVF promises faster refresh and better image quality than the current display....

There has been talk for a little while that Sony is working on adding more bodies to its vlogging-based ZV line of cameras. Some expected a new camera to come in the Spring of this year, but that didn’t happen. Fresh rumours, though, seem to suggest that it might be coming in August (although they admit that date is speculation) and contain a stacked BSI CMOS sensor like the Sony A1 and A9 II....

The Sony RX100 VII is the latest in Sony’s line of popular RX100 compact cameras. DxOMark recently posted their review of the RX100 VII’s sensor in Sony’s latest iteration and found it to be a little lacking compared to previous generations. Released in July 2019, the RX100 VII is an update to the RX100 VI. It was a welcome update, particularly for vloggers thanks to the addition of the microphone socket....

When it comes to giving us amazing views of the earth and space, few do it better than NASA, and this one’s going to take some effort to beat. NASA seem to have well and truly boarded and taken residence on the 4K bandwagon, and with footage like this, it’s easy to see why. Having never actually managed to see them from here in the UK (on the rare occasion they are actually visible here, the sky’s usually covered in cloud), the views from up there must be incredible to see in person....

I’m no stranger to a wide-angle lens, back in my crop Pentax days I used to love shooting my old Samyang 8mm Fisheye, and more recently with my Sigma fp I’ve been enjoying the 14-24mm f2.8. Tamron has announced the Tamron 50-400mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III VC VXD, a new, versatile zoom that wants to be your go-to lens for any shooting situation. The focal length range is pretty unusual; dare I say groundbreaking. Starting at the standard 50mm rather than 100mm, this lens differs from other ultra-telephoto zooms you’ll find in the market. Like other companies, Tamron also seems to be struggling with the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic. The company has recently confirmed that its two major companies will remain closed throughout 2020. According to a press release, the reason for this decision is “decreased worldwide demand.” Hirosaki and Namioka factories, both in Japan’s Aomori prefecture, have been out of operation since May. They were supposed to be reopened on 1 October, but Tamron said that they’ll remain closed until 31 December 2020....

It’s been a minute since we’ve heard anything from Nokishita about the Sony A7S III, but it looks like they’ve delivered in good style by leaking the complete German press release for the Sony A7S III. It boasts many of the features that have been rumoured and highlights features such as 1080p recording at 240fps, 10-bit 4:2:2 video and data rates up to 500mbps. One interesting bit of information, that was mentioned in the leaked B&H review is the RAW over HDMI feature....

This time, though, he’s taking things literally, building the Crapinon 135mm DIY lens. Mathieu often trawls the local flea markets looking for bargains, oddities and rare lenses. The world’s largest-ever digital camera is currently being assembled and readied to be installed at the Vera Rubin Observatory, Chile. With a resolution of 3,200 megapixels, the images are so huge and detailed that you could spot a golf ball 20 miles away. The camera is the Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) and will photograph half the Southern sky every 3 days. Every week astronomers, astrophysicists and cosmologists will have a complete image of the entire sky in that region....
