Trashing someone all over the internet is not an adequate way to express your dissatisfaction with their services. A bride from Canada learned this the hard way after the court ordered her to pay $115,000 CAD (nearly $89,500) for trashing a wedding photographer online and ruining her business. As CBC reports, the business in questions is Amara Wedding, belonging to photographer Kitty Chan. It was reportedly ruined after a series of online posts by the bride Emily Lao, who was dissatisfied with their photography services....

This 8K organic CMOS sensor from Panasonic seems to be turning into the Duke Nukem of sensors. Basically, vapourware. Every so often, a box with “8K” written on the side of it seems to be trotted out to some show or other, with a promise that it’ll be getting released soon and then it never seems to actually happen. The sensor was first announced in February 2018, boasting an 8K 60fps global shutter....

Not everybody is as well planned, though....

Every time a new camera is coming out, everybody wants to know what it looks like. They usually look pretty much like their predecessors, though. Canon have their own look and ergonomics, and all the other manufacturers have theirs. So, unsurprisingly, the Canon 6D Mark II looks pretty much like the Canon 6D. Nonetheless, photos of the 6D Mark II have now been leaked. As with most leaked photos that come right before an announcement, these come courtesy of Digicame-info and Nokishita....

Canon announced three brand new products last week: the EOS R6 mark II, the RF 135mm 1.8 L lens, and the EL-5 speedlight designed for the mirrorless range of camera bodies. However, an announcement on Canon’s Japanese site was posted just two days later, apologizing already for delays to these products. Of course, delays on camera equipment and indeed on many products since the start of the pandemic in 2020 is nothing new....

It seems that Canon is looking to refresh their 70-200mm lenses of both f/2.8 and f/4 flavours. Canon Rumors says they can “100% confirm” that one of the new lenses will be the EF 70-200mm f/4L IS II. And they’re 95% sure that a second lens will also be on the way, the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III. They say that the clues all point to this being the lens, but that they’ve not seen the name in writing....

Canon not letting all of their cameras shoot 24p video in all resolutions has been a big problem for a lot of people, and it’s put many people off adding certain Canon cameras to their collection. Or, they’ve got one but had to deal with clunky framerate conversion workarounds. Fortunately, Canon seems to have woken up to this, having recently committed to adding it to the EOS RP, G7X Mark III, EOS 90D and various other cameras via firmware updates....

After Nikon has officially announced their full frame mirrorless camera, it seems it’s time for Canon now. Website Canon Rumors collected some interesting statements from trusted sources, suggesting that Canon will be launching a new mirrorless camera in late 2018. Or better yet – it may be more than just one camera. Other than this, they write that the upcoming mirrorless body will not a sensor from Canon’s full frame DSLRs like EOS 6D Mark II or EOS 5D Mark IV....

Canon has been working on their own focal length reducers. Lens adapters commonly sold under “speedbooster” or similar names, these adapters translate a larger projection circle, like that from a full frame lens, to the smaller sizes needed by APS-C and smaller sensors. Now, a new Japanese patent discovered by Canon Rumors shows that Canon has filed patents covering at least four more reduced optical formulas. Such “speedboosters” (and the reason they got their name) is that they come with the benefit of effectively increasing the maximum aperture....

Canon has filed a pretty interesting looking patent at the Japan Patent Office. I’m not entirely sure how I feel about it yet, but it replaces the focus ring on the lens with a touch panel which would let you control the lens with your thumb as you handhold it. On the plus side, it’d make people start to hold their cameras properly, but it does seem like it’d be a bit of a pain for a lot of photographers, particularly those shooting on tripods – like landscape or product photographers....

NBC Olympics, a division of NBC Sports Group, is producing, programming and promoting NBC Universal’s Olympic coverage. For the Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea, the production has chosen to cover the event with Canon’s cameras and lenses. Chip Adams of NBC Olympics says that the “Olympics production can be tough on equipment and especially lenses.” He claims that Canon lenses have never failed them in difficult conditions, so I guess it was not a tough choice for them....

Canon has published a patent for two new zoom lens in the 28-70mm f/2.8 and 28-60mm f/2.8 focal length ranges. What makes them particularly interesting, though, is how tiny they are, for zooms with such wide aperture zooms, with both coming in at a little over 105mm long at the shorter end of their focal length limit of ~28mm. Even at their maximum zooms of 60mm and 67.9mm, they still only hit 132....

Canon released a bunch of new firmware updates last week for the Canon EOS R5, EOS R6 and EOS 1DX Mark III cameras. The EOS R6 v1.3.0 firmware update, was pulled within 24 hours of being published without any explanation or reason why. Well, it seems that the v1.3.0 firmware contained a not insignificant bug, which Canon was quick to fix. They have now released a new v.1.3.1 firmware. A video posted to the Chinese social media site BiliBili illustrates the bug and exactly what causes it – using a rather fetching Helly Kitty themed EOS R6, resulting in “Err 70”....

Shortages and delays still seem to be the order of the day and Canon Japan has released their latest delayed product list with their usual “apology and guidance” status update. Amongst the products delayed in the latest update are the Canon EOS R3 and EOS R5c bodies, as well as the newly announced RF 800mm 5/6L IS USM and RF 1200mm f/8L USM lenses. These delays are going to disappoint some potential customers, although they’re not really all that surprising....

Last week, it was reported that the high-resolution 50-megapixel Canon EOS 5DS and 5DSR DSLRs had ceased production. While Canon still hasn’t confirmed this, and you can still currently buy one, it makes a lot of sense to kill off this camera now, with 40+ megapixels starting to become more common with the likes of the Nikon D850 & Z7 and Sony A7R IV. There have been rumours of a super-high-resolution Canon EOS R mirrorless camera for quite a while now, but we haven’t heard much lately....

Canon have updated their popular G9X compact camera with a couple of new additions. While it remains largely unchanged from its Mark I predecessor, it does feature a couple of pretty significant changes. The two biggest two being the massive speed increase from a 1fps Raw “burst” to 8.2fps as well as a new dual IS system utilising both the sensor and lens. Although compact cameras seem to be slowly dying off due to the advancements of cameras in smartphones, it isn’t stopping some companies....

Canon has filed a new patent in Japan that shows a pretty unusual mirrorless camera body. It comes with an integrated grip with a pass-through, and it’s designed so that you can shoot both horizontally and vertically. The patent is filed under JP,2021-117300,A. From the illustrations, we can see that the camera looks like the EOS R5– only significantly bigger. The grip has an open space that lets you firmly hold the camera, and you can easily turn it both horizontally and vertically....

Along with the development announcement for the 1DX Mark III, Canon has also announced availability for two new lenses. These aren’t EF mount, though. They’re RF mount for Canon’s EOS R mirrorless system. They’ve been mentioned before, but now they’re official. The Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM and Canon RF 85mm f/1.2L USM DS lenses. Canon did already release an 85mm f/1.2L lens for the EOS R system, although this new one adds what they’re calling “Defocus Smoothing” which they say helps to soften and smooth bokeh when working at wider apertures, improving the aesthetic of super shallow depth of field shots....

Canon USA have announced an update to their Video Creator Kits offerings with two new kits containing their newest cameras, including the EOS 80D DSLR, and the EOS M3 mirrorless. The kits are designed to be an all-in-one solution for independent YouTube content creators who don’t want to have to figure out everything they need to get up and running quickly. These new kits join the existing packages based around the Rebel T5i (EOS 700D), Rebel T6i (EOS 750D) and EOS 70D DSLR bodies....
