Hot on the heels of Canon EOS R5 rumours, it seems Canon may be getting ready to announce an EOS R6, too. A lower resolution camera, possibly as a mirrorless followup to the Canon EOS 6D Mark II, this camera is expected to be around 20-megapixels, and offer 4K video at 60 frames per second. There aren’t really many specs just yet, even rumoured ones, but with Canon rumoured to be releasing four new full-frame cameras in 2020, and three of them being mirrorless, it adds up....

Charlie Cole, one of “Tank Man” Tiananmen Square photographers, has died in his home in Bali. He was one of four photographers who covered the 1989 protests in Tiananmen Square in Beijing, and his photo of the “Tank Man” brought him the World Press Photography Award. Charlie Cole was born in Texas, USA in 1955. He graduated in journalism from the University of Texas in Denton in 1978, and 1980 he left the USA and went to for Japan....

Today, Hasselblad released new sample photos taken with their latest medium format camera H6D-400c MS. And their test subject? A Ross HK-7 which is the first camera they ever produced. Coronavirus has had many events canceled and postponed, including this year’s NAB. While The Photography Show in Birmingham has been rescheduled and Adobe Summit switched online, NAB didn’t offer any alternative at the time of cancelation. But now it appears that we’ll have one after all. In late April 2020, NAB will be streamed in the form of a “virtual trade show.” Johnnie Behiri and Nino Leitner of Cinema5D told DPReview about their intentions to live stream the event....

We have seen several AI-based colorizing tools so far, and colourise.sg is the latest addition to this bunch. While some other services like Algorithmia still need to improve, colourise.sg is capable of doing a fantastic job in only a matter of seconds. Colourise.sg was trained using old Singaporean photos. The makers write that the point of colorization is to generate an image with plausible colors, and they may not be an accurate representation of the actual snapshot in time....

One of the most ridiculous and the most famous cases is finally solved: no, monkeys can’t own the copyright to the photos they snapped accidentally. To remind you, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals recently refused to dismiss the case. It has now ruled that crested macaque named Naruto doesn’t have legal standing to file a copyright claim against photographer David Slater. PETA filed a lawsuit against Slater in 2015, claiming that the monkey should own the copyright over the selfies it snapped with Slater’s camera....

So, it looks like SmallRig is here to stay as far as LED lights go and the RC120 (reviewed here) family got some new double-the-power members – the RC220B and the RC220D. (Those stand for bi-colour and daylight). From what I can tell, it seems that SmallRig has refitted the RC120 body with a more powerful LED. And this is a good thing. DJI has now officially launched the new DJI Mavic 3 boasting better sensors, a dual-camera system, omnidirectional obstacle avoidance, smarter flight modes and longer flight times over the Mavic 2. DJI says that the Mavic 3 has been “redesigned from tip to tail” to take things up to the next level. And it sure seems to have done that. It shoots 5.1K video at up to 50 frames per second with a large 4/3″ CMOS Hasselblad camera, 4K 120fps for high-quality slow-mo and features redesigned batteries that let you stay up in the air for a very impressive 46 minutes....

Does the gear you use matter? Well, as with most questions, yes… and no. As someone who makes their living from using a camera should I be worried when I see how easy is it for “normal people” to take amazing photos? We live in a golden age for people who love using cameras. I think it would be hard to get a camera these days that takes a bad picture or video in even semi-decent conditions....

Nikon has warned that people should avoid using their new auto-focus system in their latest mirrorless lenses if they have a pacemaker fitted. The lenses affected by this include the new $14,000 400mm f/2.8 TC VR S lens for mirrorless cameras, and it’s all down to the way the new autofocus system works. “Do not use this product if you have a pacemaker or other medical device. The magnet or magnets in this product could cause medical devices to malfunction,” the reference manual states....

As of yesterday, drone users in the UK will now have to take an online test and pay a £9 annual fee if they want to fly a drone weighing between 250g and 20kg. If you don’t, you could be facing a £1,000 fine. The new mandatory registration scheme comes in the wake of increased calls for drone regulation over fears of their misuse. First announced back in 2017, the scheme is finally here....

Facebook has just bought GIPHY, the popular GIF-sharing platform. According to the announcement, the company plans to integrate it into Instagram, making it easier to find and use gifs in this app. The details of the price haven’t been disclosed, but an official information is that it cost Facebook $400 million.
