Federal Appeals Court Rules That You Have A Constitutional Right To Photograph Police Officers

Photographing and filming the police is an often touchy topic. Mostly due to a lack of education on the part of some police officers. These officers (and it is a tiny minority) seem unaware of the actual laws regarding it. Or, they outright lie and say it is illegal, sometimes to the point of allegedly beating those filming them unsonscious. Now, a panel of judges fro the 3rd US Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously ruled that this falls under the First Amendment....

In the Apple Store, the app is presented as Editor’s Choice, with a pretty unusual rating for a recommended app: 2....

Fixing Colour Casts With Neutral Density Filters Using The Colorchecker Passsport

Recently, I posted a video on my YouTube channel on profiling my phone’s cameras. I do this because I like shooting DNG and then processing on the desktop. But the video raised a question from a couple of people about whether the X-Rite ColorChecker could fix the colour cast with long exposures using neutral density filters. It’s something I’ve wondered myself. I don’t really shoot a whole lot of long exposures with neutral density, so I never got around to testing the idea....

German Photographer Sues Facebook Over Image Metadata Stripping And Wins

It’s long been known that Facebook strips the metadata from photographs and other images that are uploaded. I’ve never seen an official answer from Facebook as to why they do this, but the leading theory seems to be one of privacy. With 136,000 images being uploaded to Facebook every single minute, that’s a lot of potential GPS and other private information. But it does also total up to a lot of potentially wasted storage space, too....

Glow Or Sparkle Two Artistic Aperture Choices For Sun Flare Specular Highlights

When you think of lens aperture on your camera – do you think about exposure, or do you think about artistic interpretation? Yes, aperture is one third of the exposure equation (with shutter speed and ISO making up the other two variables), but your choice of aperture should primarily be an artistic choice. If you’re moving up to a DSLR from a mobile camera, you probably haven’t really thought about aperture too much (since phones have a fixed aperture) – or if you have, it’s in terms of bokeh (wider aperture = more bokeh…yay bokeh), but your choice of aperture has a big impact on the look of your captured image (beyond just bokeh)....
