One notable absence in the launch of the DJI Mavic Mini was a range of ND filters designed for the new drone. DJI has sets of their own branded filters for many of their products like the Osmo Pocket and Osmo Action as well as for drones including the Phantom 4, Mavic Pro and Mavic Air. But there is nothing for the Mavic Mini and no obvious way to attach filters, either....

Well, it’s (almost) official. The launch of the Panasonic S1 and S1R full-frame mirrorless cameras was expected in March, presumably, so they could tease them at The Photography Show, and then show them off properly at Photokina. Since Photokina was cancelled, however, Panasonic let out a new teaser letting us know to expect an announcement on January 31st (today). It looks like UK retailers Park Cameras and CVP might have jumped the gun slightly, though, because, for a brief time, they listed the new cameras and various lens combos on their websites for pre-order, along with prices....

The more features that get packed into each new generation of cameras, the less time batteries seem to last. Things like liveview, gps, WiFi, NFC, VR/IS, and a host of other doohickies just drain them faster than they used to. One of China’s largest OLED manufacturers, Visionox who provides panels for flagship smartphones like Xiaomi’s Mi 10 and Mi Note 10 has announced that they’re ready to begin mass production of smartphone displays compatible with under-screen cameras. The concept has been around for a little while now. The first was unveiled in June last year, by Oppo. But it was mostly a proof-of-concept prototype showing off the idea rather than an issue-free device that was ready for prime time....
Earlier this year, Volvo was sued by a photographer whose photos they used, but also by the model who was in them. In its attempt to get the court to throw out the case, Volvo has caused fierce reactions from the public. They claim that, as long as Instagram photos are public, they’re free to use them and share them. To remind you of the story: photographer Jack Schroeder and model Britni Sumida initially filed a lawsuit against Volvo in June this year....

The ISO capabilities in DSLRs and mirrorless cameras today is pretty amazing. But it’s not perfect. You’re still going to see an increase in noise as you ramp up the ISO, even if it’s not quite as bad as it used to be. But we all love clean, noiseless images, don’t we? In the Women’s History Month, Adobe Stock Team has decided to conduct an interesting study. They wanted to find out how the image of women has changed in advertising and creativity. Thus, they have analyzed the data for over 450 million Adobe Stock searches in the last year, trying to find out whether the perception of women has changed over this period. Searches for images of women are up 39% year-over-year, but they examined what types of images people looked for when they needed stock photos of women....

A year ago, I called out Yongnuo for not being able to keep up with Godox. Their flashes seemed to have stalled in development and they had randomly switched from making inexpensive, but not completely terrible, speedlights to cheap copycat lenses. Now, though, it looks like they’re trying to break into the camera market. Yongnuo has announced through their Facebook page that a new camera is on the way. There’s no name for the new camera yet, but that’s what the post was all about, a contest to name the new camera....
