They were invited to submit a series of five to ten images interpreting this year’s brief, Connections. According to the contest representative, the shortlisted entries have each been chosen for their “nuanced and intelligent responses to this brief.” As for the Youth contest, the shortlist features seven category winners from June to December 2021, who each responded to a different monthly theme....

The Olympus 100-400mm f/5.0-6.3 IS lens was added to the Olympus lens roadmap in November 2019, and in April of this year, an official release announcement was rumoured. It was rumoured again in July not long after it was announced that Olympus is selling up to JIP. While there still doesn’t seem to have been an official announcement, it seems like it’s well on its way. Now, photos of the new lens have leaked, courtesy of 43Rumors, including at least one showing it in use in the wild....

When the 36MP Nikon D800 was originally released in 2012, it was hailed as the “medium format killer”. Well, medium format has not only survived, but seems to be thriving. It’s even started to make its way into slightly less expensive markets thanks to the introduction of the Hasselblad X1D and Fujifilm GFX 50S. They’re both 50MP cameras, but how do they compare to a 50MP 35mm sized sensor DSLR?...

Police in Wales recently arrested a drug dealer thanks to fingerprints taken from a WhatsApp photo. The snapshot shows only a part of the man’s palm, but it was apparently enough to lead to the suspect and secure 11 convictions. According to the reports, this is the first time that Welsh police made convictions based on the fingerprints taken from a photo. Dave Thomas of Welsh police described the technique as “groundbreaking,” even though fingerprinting has been used for decades....

The Godox ML60 is an interesting little light. I say little because it’s similar in size to the company’s AD300Pro strobe, which is really tiny. The ML60 isn’t a strobe, though. It’s a 60 Watt continuous LED light and it can be powered either from an AC adapter in the studio or a pair of NP-F style batteries out on location. For its size, it puts out a whole heck of a lot of light, and with the Godox S2 modifier, you can use it with Bowens S mount modifiers....

It’s that time again. Insta360’s announced another camera. This time it’s the Insta360 X3; the successor to the Insta360 ONE X2 (review here) – although they’ve dropped the “ONE” bit from the naming system now. But how does it compare to its predecessor? What’s different? What’s new? Is it really any better? I’ve had the opportunity to test one for the last couple of weeks and in some ways, it’s definitely an improvement over the ONE X2....

I’ve become a big fan of Litra’s super tough LED lights. We even use the LitraPro LED as an on-camera light when we cover shows. So when I heard that they were bringing out a big, powerful RGBWW LED light, I had to see it for myself. Irix has expanded its product base from just lenses once again. After having already branched out into filters, they’ve now announced the new Irix Matte Box IQ. It’s a small, lightweight matte box designed for filmmakers and video shooters to help control light spill on their lenses. It does have one slight drawback for many filmmakers, though, which might be a deal breaker. It’s only designed to work with Irix’s magnetic filters....

Gudsen has today officially announced the Moza AirCross 3 – an update to its popular Moza AirCross 2 gimbal for small DSLRs and mirrorless cameras. Gudsen describes the AirCross 3 as “four gimbals in one” combining the classic single handle approach along with sling mode, dual-handle mode and a grip extension for use with devices like the Slypod Pro. It inherits a number of features from the AirCross 2, though....

Adobe After Effects hasn’t seen a big update in a little while, and it seemed to have been skipped over during last month’s big update – although, even if it had, the new app icons would’ve still probably stolen the show. But a little teaser was posted about an upcoming feature – the AI-powered Roro Brush 2.0. The new tool is now available in the latest public beta of After Effects, and Jordy and the team at Cinecom took it for a spin....

As mentioned during the initial announcement of Nikon’s two mirrorless cameras, the Nikon Z6 II and Z7 II, both will be eligible for a firmware upgrade to add RAW over HDMI capabilities (it does not come with the camera out of the box). As with RAW over HDMI on the Z6 and Z7 mirrorless cameras, though, it is still a $200 paid upgrade. We already knew that ProRes Support would be coming in the form of the Atomos Ninja V, although Blackmagic has now confirmed to No Film School that they’ll also be supporting Z6 II/Z7 II 4K60p BRAW recording in the Blackmagic Video Assist 12G as well....

She has taught photography and business for as far back as anyone can remember, but bring up her name today and it will be met with the rolling of eyes and a heap of indignation. She used to headline most events, back in the day, but now, she’s rarely asked to speak....

In order to significantly improve your street photography, repetition helps tremendously! Focus on a certain aspect and shoot it over and over again. That way, each shot gets you closer to the vision you have in mind. Back in 2013, I set myself the challenge to do something creative with just the lower part of the body. I dedicated a few photo walks to it. Even though it was a bit challenging at first, this philosophy eventually brought my vision to life....
