Along with the 85mm, 600mm, and 800mm primes and EOS R5 and R6 cameras, Canon has also announced a new zoom lens today. Canon RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L IS USM is a super-telephoto zoom, and it’s the company’s longest-range zoom lens so far. Just like the rest of the gear announced today, the new 100-500mm lens for full-frame RF cameras previously appeared in Canon’s leaked roadmap. It provides a 100mm longer range than Canon’s 100-400mm for EF in a relatively compact design....

Well, we knew there was a big announcement coming from Canon today and we were pretty sure we knew what it might be. well, Canon has now made the announcement official, bringing us the Canon RF 800mm f/5.6 L IS USM and Canon RF 1200mm f/8L IS USM super-telephoto lenses. With price tags of $16,999 and $19,999 respectively, these lenses sure ain’t for the faint of heart (or wallet) and are absolute monsters designed for sports and wildlife....

While Canon might’ve suffered something of a setback with the destruction of its CE-SAT-1B satellite last year, it does still have the original CE-SAT-1 flying over the planet, with plans to launch more. In the meantime, though, they’ve launched a new website that allows you to shoot photos with the $9 million satellite, launched in 2017. You don’t get free run of the planet, of course, but Canon’s new Redefine the Limits website allows you to look through a select number of views on different parts of the Earth to pan and zoom and shoot a photo – along with latitude, longitude and altitude data, with the Canon EOS 5D Mark III flying 500 kilometres above the surface....

Canon has announced a new Version 2 of their ST-E3-RT trigger for controlling Canon speedlights off-camera. If you were hoping for some massive upgrade, though, you’re in for a little disappointment. According to what I can see, it basically only adds only three new features over the original ST-E3-RT released in 2012. And not for everybody. The first is that you (finally) get to be able to shoot rear curtain sync with your wireless Canon speedlights (if your camera is 2020 or newer and not an 850D/T8i)....

A Chinese developer has exposed DJI’s AES private keys by posting them onto Github in plain text. By doing this, he made it easy to decrypt DJI’s encrypted flight control firmware. So, when it was discovered, it sent the man to jail and he’ll have to pay a fine of nearly $30,000. The Register writes that the developer’s name is Li Zhanbin. He was reportedly prosecuted in early April and sentenced to six months in jail....

Colbor has announced the new Colbor CL60R, it’s an RGB version of the CL60 and CL60M LED lights released in August. We got to check out those versions in person in September at IBC 2022 in Amsterdam. Now, the new RGB version has landed, with the same modularity but a lot more colour options and at least one very cool new feature. The cool new feature may seem like an odd choice for a light designed for video and something more commonly found on disco lights instead – although the Aputure Amaran SM5C features this ability, too....

Indian photojournalist for Reuters, Danish Siddiqui, was killed on Friday while on assignment in Afghanistan. He was reportedly “covering a clash between Afghan security forces and Taliban fighters near a border crossing with Pakistan,” when he got caught in a crossfire. Siddiqui was embedded as a journalist since earlier last week with Afghan special forces based in the southern province of Kandahar, according to Reuters. He had been reporting on fighting between Afghan commandos and Taliban fighters....

Their Mavic Pro smashed the competition from GoPro and is possibly what everyone is getting for Christmas, but now, they are making another push with two new drones: a pro Inspire 2 and an update to the popular Phantom line: Phantom 4 Pro. In most cases, commercial and personal drones aren’t allowed to fly over crowds of people for safety reasons. You never know when a drone might crash and hurt someone, so it sounds reasonable. However, Indemnis’ drone parachute lets you legally fly drones over small groups of people. It’s the first time a drone parachute receives certification that allows drone operators to fly over crowds. As you might know, there are other drone parachutes available on the market, such as Fruity Chutes and Parazero....

DJI has just launched a dedicated website for professional cinematographers and filmmakers. According to the company, DJI Pro is created to provide “comprehensive user experience for cinematographers and filmmakers around the world.” Ti Xie, Public Relations Director at DJI, says that the DJI Pro website is a dedicated location for customers. Here they can learn about how to use DJI’s professional products and use the platform to receive the latest information....

Well, I guess now we know why the US Army pulled all of its DJI products from service. DJI have removed the JPush plugin from the DJI Go and DJI Go 4 apps. It turns out that it had been collecting user data without its knowledge. Not without the user’s knowledge, without DJI’s knowledge. DJI blame the third party developer who created the JPush plugin. The Verge reports that JPush wouldn’t have needed to collect a lot of data to do its job....

DxO has announced DxO PureRAW, their new software to… Well, I suppose “pre-process” is the best term to describe it. It pre-processes your raw files before you load them into Lightroom, Adobe Camera Raw, Capture One or whatever raw software you happen to use. Its goal is to help improve your starting point with increased sharpness and reduced noise. DxO PureRAW is not a plugin. It’s a standalone application through which you run your raw files before your usual editing workflow....

If there’s one thing we can expect when Edelkrone announce a new product, it’s that it’ll be different. One only needs to look at their PocketSkater2 or StandPlus to realise that. When they first showed off the Wing back in 2014, it was simply a concept device. Now, it’s here for real. The final version presented today isn’t quite as large as the one shown at NAB in 2014.
