Leica No Longer Operates In Russia

After Canon, another camera company has pulled out of Russia as a result of its attack on Ukraine. This time, it’s Leica. The company has ceased all operations in this country, and the Leica Store in Moscow has been closed. As Macfilos reports, Leica Camera AG has issued a brief, but clear statement reading simply that this company will no longer do business in Russia: “Leica has suspended all business in Russia until further notice and closed the Leica Store in Moscow....

Leica Officially Launches Its New Leica Cine 1 4K Triple Laser Smart Tv Projector

If not for the fact that Leica initially teased it four months ago, this one might seem a bit out of left field. But Leica has today officially announced the release of the Leica Cine 1 4K triple laser projector. It’s Leica’s first-ever “Laser TV”, and in principle, it’s similar to the Wemax Nova 4K we reviewed on DIYP a few months ago, but with a couple of notable exceptions....

Let Me Tell You Why Professional Photography Is Worth It

Being in the photography business successfully for 40 years has been an amazing journey and a great accomplishment for me. I believe that the people I meet are the best clients anyone could wish for. For the most part, my clients book an appointment, look at the images and then make a purchase according to the price list I provide, and they go home a happy camper. Once in a while, though, a new client will express concerns about what they perceive to be the high cost of professional photography in general, and they wonder aloud if it is really worth it....

Lioness Steals A Gopro Films Herself Running And Playing With It

Animals photobombing or snatching humans’ cameras are something I can’t get enough of. So, I was quite amused seeing a lioness as she stole a GoPro and went on running and playing with it. Of course, the animal unknowingly filmed herself doing all that, leaving us with an entertaining video of herself goofing around with the camera. The “stolen” GoPro HERO10 Black belongs to Lisa Kytösaho. She was on an African safari when the curious lioness grabbed her little action camera and ran off with it....

Lytro Officially Kills Off Their Online Sharing Platform

It’s been a while since Lytro decided to abandon the world of photography and focus on the video solutions. But their latest announcement is another step towards exiting the consumer photography market. As of this month, they are discontinuing their pictures.lytro.com image sharing platform. This means their users won’t be able to share the native refocusable light-field photos online. Also, if your “living” images are embedded somewhere, they won’t be viewable any longer....

Make This Unordinary Diy Light Box With Only Three Items And For Less Than 10

DIYP team has seen and made some pretty awesome DIY light boxes using all sorts of materials: PVC pipes, coroplast and a cardboard box, to name a few. And now we’ve found something a bit … unordinary. But it’s cheap, easy, and most of all – it seems to work. It could be good as “first aid”, at least. The Crafs Man shared a video showing you how to make your own light box – out of a garbage can....

Manfrotto Just Bought Out Joby And Lowepro To Expand Into Vlogging Markets

It looks like vlogging has turned from being the strange pastime of a select few “self-absorbed” individuals into a more mainstream pursuit. When companies like Vitec, owner of Manfrotto, start taking an interest in the genre, you know it has probably become a big deal. Vitec today announced that they have acquired two of the companies most associated with vlogging equipment. JOBY, makers of the GorillaPod, and Lowepro, probably the most popular brand of camera bag out there amongst vloggers....

Meike Has Released An Autofocus Adapter To Let You Use Canon Ef Ef S Lenses On Nikon Z Bodies

No matter which team you shoot for, it seems that the Canon EF mount has sort of become the de facto universal standard for (almost) all of them. Kind of like the lens equivalent of a Bowens mount. And if the camera you’re using doesn’t have a native EF mount, whatever mount you do have can be easily adapted. Now that adaption seems to have come to Nikon Z cameras, thanks to Meike....

Mindshiftgear S Moose Peterson Bag Will Auto Close On Your Gear To Protect It

Here is a problem nature and wildlife photographers have to deal with. How to protect gear when accesing the bag. Some shoots involve dust, rain, mud and other elements that may “interact” with your $11,000 600mm f/4 lens. And you wouldn’t want that. Mindshift Gear’s (re)newed version of Moose Peterson’s “ears” bag suggests a solution to this problem. Here is the premise, while some environmental interaction is unavoidable, the bag tries to reduce them to a minimum....

Mobile Phones Dominate Flickr Uploads In 2016 With Apple Staying At The Top Spot

Flickr have released their 2016 end of year review, and, it’s actually not that much different from last year. Mobile phones still dominate, and mirrorless still lag way behind. What’s interesting, though, is that while the leader board hasn’t really changed, the numbers have. Last year, 39% of all photos uploaded to Flickr were shot with a smartphone. This year, that number has jumped to 48%. Both DSLRs and point & shoots have dropped, although mirrorless cameras have remained at a stable 3%....

My Favorite Photo Or Why You Should Sometimes Print Crappy Photos

We can argue forever whether photo gear matters or not; or what makes a photo a keeper. But today, I want to tell you about a “crappy” photo taken with an even crappier camera. I want to tell you about my favorite image which looks pretty awful, and why sometimes that doesn’t matter at all. Among my many hobbies, photography has been one of the two I’ve practiced for the longest time....

New Light Blaster Creative Kit Is Metal And Razor Sharp

While we fancy the entire system in general, we love this new kit because it delivers something that the other kits did not – real blacks. Being made out of the same metal that is used for stage lighting gobos this kit is thin enough to fir in the Light Blaster system, but being made of metal, the light only goes though the etched places and does not go through the metal providing real black on any projected surface....

Nikon Releases New Firmware For The Z6 Z7 But Not The One With Raw Video And Cfexpress Support

Nikon has released new firmware updates for both the Nikon Z6 and Nikon Z7 mirrorless cameras. Both firmwares are marked as version 2.10, and are fundamentally identical in features and fixes. They add support for the two new Z mount lenses, change the way a couple of things work and fix a few bugs. What they don’t do is add CFexpress support or RAW output over HDMI, the latter of which is something that Z6 Filmmaker’s Kit owners have already been waiting for for quite a long time....

Nvidia S Latest Rtx Studio Drivers Boost New Ai Features From Adobe And Blackmagic

A couple of years ago, graphics card manufacturer NVIDIA decided that it was time to stop focusing just on gamers and launched their “Creator Ready” drivers. Those have since evolved into what is now called their “Studio” drivers, but they’re essentially the same thing; versions of their drivers that are geared more towards content creation rather than gaming. They’ve seen a lot of changes over the last couple of years, especially since the launch of their first series RTX cards, and now their new March 2021 version of the Studio drivers focus heavily on the latest AI-powered tools from Adobe, including the new Super Resolution feature, as well as the newest neural engine in Blackmagic’s DaVinci Resolve 17....
