Well, holy cow! This is what I was hoping Sigma might say, but I never expected it to happen. Sigma has just announced that they’re releasing a new full frame Foveon sensor camera in 2019 that uses the Leica L mount. And it’s not just a current Foveon scaled up to full frame, either. It’s an entirely new generation of Foveon sensor. Well, we did know they were working on one....
Previously announced at Photokina 2018, the upcoming Full Frame Foveon L-Mount camera from Sigma has been delayed until 2020, according to reports coming out of CP+ 2019. Twitter user nuko009 has posted images from a presentation given by Sigma CEO, Kazuto Yamaki explaining that the camera’s development has been delayed. Although he did also announce that it will have a 60.9-megapixel Foveon sensor. Sort of. Foveon sensors don’t tend to calculate megapixels in the same way as traditional Bayer sensors....
The Sirui 50mm f/1.8 1.33x anamorphic lens was the talk of IFA in September and it wasn’t long before Sirui released the specs. Initially, it was rumoured to cost around €500 ($555) and be released at the end of this year. Then that price was bumped to €700 ($770) with availability in January. Now, Sirui has taken to Indiegogo to launch the lens with prices of $599 for early birds and $699 regular price....
Sirui has announced their new Saturn 35mm T2.9 full-frame carbon fibre 1.6x anamorphic lens. Designed for lightweight and mobile shooting, the new lens is smaller than a can of coke and designed for use on cameras with gimbals and even FPV drone rigs – cinema ones, at least, not cinewhoops! The light construction is thanks to the use of carbon fibre in the lens barrel and it measures only 100-103mm long, depending on the mount....

After announcing a set of Luminar Neo extensions, the company has launched imgmi, its very first mobile editing app. There are many of us who snap photos on our phones daily and want to touch them up a bit before sharing them on social media. In fact, we’ve seen some folks even do entire photo shoots on their phones. Whichever of these situations you find yourself in, Skylum wants to cover it with imgmi....
Yet another lawsuit has arisen against Snap, and this time, Google and Apple have been sued, too. A 16-year-old girl and her mother sued the three companies after a grown man, an active-duty Marine, had manipulated the girl into sending him nude photos since she was 12. The lawsuit claims that the companies failed to protect teen users from “egregious harm” and the spread of Child Sexual Abuse Materials (CSAM)....
Sony first mentioned their new wireless radio controlled flash system in March and officially launched it in July. It allows the control of up to 15 separate flash units in up to 5 different groups. A very useful and welcome addition for Sony shooters. But, not every camera has been able to support the new system. Sony have now released firmware v3.30 for the Sony A7R II. This update adds support for the new system, as well as a couple of other fixes and features....
On the outside, Sony has stuck to a proven formula. The new Sony RX100 VI looks identical to the RX100 V. The only difference is the number printed on it. Where things change though, is when you turn it on. The most noticeable difference is that the lens can come out a lot more. Upgrading the 24-70mm equivalent field of view of the RX100 V, the new RX100 VI boasts a massive 70-200mm equivalent range....
Back in September, Sony announced its Alpha Female Program aimed to support diversity in the industry. Now the winners have been announced, and among over 6,000 entries, five women have won the contest and earned plenty of valuable prizes. The 2018 grant recipients are these creators: Megan Allen, Danielle Da Silva, Erin Hogue, Nitashia Johnson, and Colette Robinson. Megan Allen is an Ohio-based wedding photographer. Her photography is often very bold and perhaps you remember her photo where she used a burning building as a backdrop for a wedding shot....
Another day, another camera, another “There are delays because we underestimated the demand!” notification from that camera’s manufacturer. This time, it’s Sony. Sony Japan has announced via their website that the Sony A7S III orders have “greatly exceeded our expectations”. The above notice (Google translated) was posted to the Sony Japan website yesterday citing delays due to demand exceeding their expectations. I don’t know if this is just a new marketing ploy or if all of these companies genuinely aren’t learning from past experiences....

Sigma has always been a popular company for long zoom lenses from the original 50-500mm f/4-6.3 “Bigma” to the expensive and comically large 200-500mm f/2.8. But the new Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG DN OS Sports series lens has been hotly anticipated in Sigma’s current transition from DSLR lenses to mirrorless lenses. The “DN” designation on the new lens denotes that it’s been designed specifically for mirrorless cameras. Now, some of the specs for the new lens have leaked....

If you want to use a Canon EF lens on a Nikon Z camera, with autofocus – it’s about to become possible. Kipon has announced the world’s first Canon-to-Nikon adapter that lets you use EF-mount lenses with Nikon Z cameras without losing the autofocus function. While there are some Canon-to-Nikon adapters on the market, all of them only allow you to use manual focus. The new adapter from Kipon lets you use using Canon EF and EF-S lenses on a Nikon Z body while maintaining the AF function....
With CP+ cancelled, the next show of any real size is The Photography Show in the UK next month. We’ve already heard that the Nikon D6 will be making its debut there, but now it seems that Canon’s EOS R5 is coming way ahead of when everybody thought and will also make its own grand entrance at TPS between March 14-17th, 2020. The EOS R5 was only teased by Canon last week and has already created quite a stir online....
It kinda looks like a phone from a decade ago, except it runs a modern Android operating system with a bezel-less design. And that design does look quite sleek. But what makes me immediately think of flip phones and slide out keyboards is that it has these strange popup cameras. That phone is the Oppo Find X.
