While we talk to people while we photograph them, we often don’t notice some imperfections that only become obvious in post. Most of us have “the better side” of our face or the angle that flatters us the most. And as a portrait photographer, it’s your job to find the perfect angle for every subject you shoot. Photographer Ernesto Sue shares five tips that will help you achieve it, and demonstrates it through his own photoshoot....

If you are a wedding videographer, there are certain types of shots you absolutely shouldn’t miss. Every wedding begins with the prep, and Rob Adams of Adorama shares five essential shots you should definitely capture before the ceremony begins. 1. Details, details, details There are plenty of beautiful details to capture during the prep of the couple. Rings, jewelry, hair piece, DIY things they’ve made, shoes, the dress… Make sure to film these while the bride and groom are getting ready....

Flash duration. Sounds a simple enough concept – but is it? Yes…and no. When I decided to write about this subject, I wrestled with how to explain the practice and principles of flash duration in a few words and (of course) pictures. Hope I’ve done a reasonable job because the better our understanding of the principles, the more control we have and the more creative we can be with our photography....

While Vogue is being slammed for not hiring a Black photographer for shooting its August cover, Vanity Fair seems to have made a good choice. For the first time in its 35-year history, the magazine hired a Black photographer to shoot its cover photo. It was shot by Dario Calmese, featuring the amazing Viola Davis. There are real-life actual situations where an invisibility cloak could be really useful, and not just for sloping about the corridors of Hogwarts at night either. Chinese students have apparently cracked the code and created what is in all effects, a coat that can avoid both infrared cameras and AI detection. The implications are enormous, particularly in surveillance-heavy states such as China. Of course, there are also lots of potential military uses for this technology, to avoid detection by drones, for example....

Madison Dube, a photographer working with Prince during the final years of his life, has filed a lawsuit against the late singer’s estate. She claims that the estate been using her work without a license. Therefore, she is suing the estate along with its “associated companies” for copyright infringement. Complete Music Update writes that Dube’s work caught Prince’s attention in 2013. They reportedly became friends and Prince became her mentor....

Freefly, yup, that Freefly, the one who makes drones and gimbals, has launched a camera. It’s called the Wave and it’s a small high-speed 4K camera with a passive locking Sony E lens mount and a global shutter sensor. It shoots up to an insane 9,259 frames per second. It has a Super 35mm sensor, 2TB of storage and weighs a relatively lightweight 716 grams. Like other high-resolution high-speed cameras, such as those from companies like Phantom and the Chronos camera, the higher frame rates come at the cost of reduced frame size....

I’m a firm believer that every space has a story to tell. Not every space (or story) is going to be glamorous or elegant; some places may be dated, downright trashy, or even worse, super boring withpe no personality (think of all those beige rooms in early 90s mcmansions…). But I think there is a concept for every space if you can stretch your imagination. Let me tell you a little story....

Well, if you were holding out for a Fuji X-H2, you’re gonna have to hold out a little more. Fuji Rumors is reporting that Fujifilm has no plans to release any more X system cameras in 2021. All that you get for 2021 is the Fujifilm X-E4 released back at the beginning of the year. Fuji Rumors say the information comes from “trusted sources” and as they note, this will be the first year since they started up the Fujifilm X system that only one body will have been released....

With all of the big mirrorless announcements lately from Nikon and Canon, it’s easy to forget that Fuji were expected to also announce a new camera this week. Fuji X-T3 rumours have been floating around since at least July, but now it’s finally here. And, on paper, it seems like it’s everything we hoped it would be. The X-T3 really appears to be a completely brand new camera from Fuji....

Fujifilm have today announced a new monochrome instant film for its Instax mini cameras. According to the press release, “The “instax mini film Monochrome” responds to the increasingly sophisticated demands of users, enabling them to expand the artistic potential of their photographic expression and adding a further dimension of fun to using instax cameras and films.” Well, I don’t know about expanding the artistic potential of their photographic expression, but it sure sounds like fun....

Underwater Photographer of the Year has just announced its winners for 2022. And like every year, quite a lot of stunning scenes have been captured in splendid underwater photographs. “One photo to rule them all” was taken by Spanish photographer Rafael Fernandez Caballero. He was named this year’s Underwater Photographer of the Year, and his incredible image shows five whale sharks feeding together at night in the waters of the Maldives....

Well, we knew it wouldn’t be long before the DJI Mavic Air accessories started to appear, especially if PolarPro have anything to do with it. PolarPro has now released the new DJI Mavic Air versions of their cinema filter series. These include neutral density and polarising filters to help provide more control over shutter speed, glare and saturation. They’ve also announced a couple of new cases, as well as a DJI Mavic Air version of their popular Katana system....

This has been a long time coming, and much anticipated. Godox have now finally announced their X1 transmitter & receiver for Fuji cameras. Fuji medium format shooters might be a little disappointed, though. Unfortunately the Fuji GFX 50s does not appear to be in the list of compatible cameras. Of course, it could just be that they haven’t tested it yet. Also announced are the Godox triggers for the Olympus & Panasonic Micro Four Thirds systems....

After random crashes, recalling the drone and making up to the buyers with free GoPro Hero 5 Black – Karma drone is back! GoPro announced the return of Karma later this year, and this “later” has come pretty soon. The drone is already available for preorders, as if nothing ever happened. Let me remind you, Karma drones were recalled because of the random power loss in the middle of flight....

Photoshop has had some AI-powered filters for a while now. Adobe announced a couple of new ones recently, some incredibly useful and the others… well, maybe not so much. The latter include Landscape Mixer, a tool that lets you combine your landscape photo with another in a single click. Has Adobe gone too far with this? Colin Smith of PhotoshopCAFE demonstrates the tool in his latest video, so let’s see how it performs and is it any good at all....

Hasselblad has today announced the new XCD 45P; a 45mm f/4 lens for the Hasselblad X medium format mirrorless system. Officially, the “P” stands for portable, but a lot of people will likely automatically think “pancake”. It’s not, but in comparison to the size of your typical digital medium format lenses, you could be forgiven for thinking that. This is the smallest and lightest medium format lens that Hasselblad has ever released, although Hasselblad still guarantees the image quality and clarity you’d expect from a lens for this format....

Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary is currently the largest and most successful rhino orphanage in the world. But other than rhinos, the sanctuary helps many other animal species such as giraffe, wildebeest, multiple antelope species, and small predators. Thanks to the diversity in the sanctuary, an unlikely friendship has formed. A zebra and rhino babies, both admitted in critical condition, have become buddies. They helped each other heal and they’re now best friends whose photos are melting the hearts of the people around the world....
