Sigma has now officially announced the new Sigma 105mm f/2.8 DG DN Macro Art series lens. Designed for full-frame mirrorless cameras, the lens is available for both Sony E and Leica L mounts. The new lens was announced in Sigma’s live stream (which is still happening as I type this). They say that the lens is partly in response to the number of people stuck indoors this year due to the global pandemic who are obviously shooting macro – an idea backed up by the sales of Sigma’s 105mm f/2....

Ryan Adams’ performance at Gasparilla Music Festival had good music and good vibe, but also one unpleasant event. the singer and photographer Joe Sale fell out over the use of flash. Sale took photos of the concert using a flash, while it was strictly prohibited. It’s not a caprice – it’s because the singer has a Meniere’s disease. Flashing lights can cause him to have vertigo-like symptoms, ocular migraines, and seizures....

A few weeks ago, the folks from the Cooperative of Photography brought us an excellent video on taking our photography to the next level. Sony’s A6300 was pretty much an instant hit as soon as it was released. It’s small compact size makes it ideal for things like street for photography and family vacations. The flippy out screen has also made it an ideal video camera for vloggers. It does have a bit of a problem, though. It tens to get a bit hot. Sony have now released a firmware update for the A6300 to resolve some of the overheating issues....

The Sony A7C has proven to be quite popular. As a full-frame camera designed primarily for vlogging, it’s not much of a surprise. Even though there are many full-frame cameras out there now with which you can vlog, the A7C kind of stands alone in its design that’s especially well suited to the task. And despite being smaller, when it comes to video, it largely keeps up with the Sony A7 III....

Well, it was expected that Sony would be announcing something either at or in the run up to NAB, and now we know what it is. No, they haven’t confirmed that their truck was stolen, but they have announced a new camera. That camera is the new Sony Alpha A9; a 24MP mirrorless beast of a sports shooter. It features a Blackout-free 20fps continuous burst mode, 693 AF points with 93% coverage and a 1280×960 QVGA resolution EVF running at 120fps....

When the Sony A9 was announced, it seemed the ideal alternative to the Canon 1DX Mark II or Nikon D5. The ultimate sports or wildlife shooter. But the biggest complaint was Sony’s lack of long glass to go with it. Now, We’ve known Sony has been working on a 400mm f/2.8 GM OSS lens, but it’s been a long wait for it to see reality. Rumoured back in May 2017, it got a lot of Sony shooters excited....

One of the biggest companies appearing at NAB in Las Vegas each year (well, each non-pandemic year when the event actually goes ahead) is Sony. This year, NAB has been rescheduled from its usual date in April to October 9-13th at the Las Vegas Convention Centre, replacing the usual NAB New York shot at the Javits Center. Sony, however, has announced that due to the ongoing COVID-19 Delta variant, Sony has decided to pull the plug and will not be attending in person at next month’s NAB Show....

Tamron’s upcoming 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di III-A VC VXD autofocus lens for Fuji X and Sony E mount, for which a development announcement was made last month, looks like it might be set for a release announcement next month. September 24th, to be precise, according to a tweet from Nokishita. The tweet says that Tamron has now “released the catalog” of the lens, attached to the tweet as a PDF, which offers up the complete specs....

Tamron SP lenses have been around for 40 years. To celebrate this anniversary, Tamron has decided to launch an “ultimate” 35mm lens for Nikon and Canon DSLRs. The SP 35mm f/1.4 Di USD is coming soon and it’s going to be “the finest lens in Tamron’s history.” The new 35mm f/1.4 is designed with versatility in mind, considering that the 35mm focal length is used in many different photography genres....

It looks like Tamron is taking a leaf out of Sony’s book, claiming records with hidden caveats. First, we had Sony claiming that the A7c was the world’s “smallest and lightest full-frame camera” – which it objectively wasn’t – and then Sony started adding caveats to the claim. Now, Tamron’s doing it with, perhaps not surprisingly, their new Sony E mount 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD. They’re claiming that it’s the “World’s first mirrorless zoom lens with a maximum wide-open aperture of f/2”....

Photos of the upcoming Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 Di III VXD lens for Sony E Mount leaked a couple of weeks ago. With promotional product photos out there in the wild, we knew it wouldn’t be long before there was an official announcement. Now it looks like we might see that announcement come at some point this week.
