Lomography’s Art Lens series has grown with the addition of the Daguerreotype Achromat 2.9/64 lens in both Onyx Black and Silver Graphite finishes. The lens was first launched by Lomography back in 2016 via Kickstarter and now it’s a regular fixture in the lineup for a price of just $299. It’s their take on the historic lens that came at the creation of practical photography in 1938 with the combination of the Chevalier Achromat Lens attached to a Daguerreotype camera....
The flickering of a swarm of fireflies is one of the most magical things I’ve seen in my life. It always impresses me no matter how many times I see it. I started appreciating it even more lately, as it’s not lo longer a common sight in Serbia. The biggest swarm of fireflies I’ve ever seen contained around 150 or 200 beetles. If you make a lot of product shots, especially with small items, I’ve found a wonderful DIY build for you. It’s a turntable you can make yourself, it requires no motor and it’s super-cheap. You’ll spend around $20 and a couple of minutes to make it, and get great results. Motorized turntables for product photography are not that expensive (around $100). But if you can make your own for 5 times less money and in just a few minutes – why wouldn’t you?...
When I was a kid, I always fantasized about finding treasure in my home’s attic one day. Well, David J. Whitcomb did. When he bought a building, he discovered a 100-year-old photo studio inside of it and a bunch of prints from the late 19th and early 20th century. Now that’s what I call treasure! Whitcomb bought the building in Geneva, New York in December 2020. At the time, he didn’t even know that it had an attic, let alone the treasures hidden inside of it....
It’s been a bit of a wild ride for Meyer Optik, but probably not half as wild as for those who’ve backed their products and projects on Indiegogo and Kickstarter over the last couple of years. In August of this year, NetSE Group, the company behind Meyer Optik Görlitz, Emil Busch A.G. Rathenau, Oprema Jena, C.P. Goerz, Ihagee Elbaflex and A. Schacht brands filed for bankruptcy. Two months later the insolvency proceedings began, and it was announced that none of the backers would be receiving their lenses, nor would they be getting their money back....
It’s been almost a year since Meyer Optik Görlitz announced the Trioplan 50mm f/2.8 II. And now, it’s finally here. The new 50mm lens from Meyer Optik has been redesigned and improved, but it has kept some of its vintage charm. Or should I say it has kept its most recognizable feature: bokeh. And what’s more, it seems that the weird approach against UAVs worked. But it appears eagles in Australia require no training to do it. British Ecological Society has published the 2022 winners of its annual photo contest, Capturing Ecology. And like every year, the selected images feature different subjects and convey different emotions: from the thrilling chase of a hungry leopard, to the blissful calm of a bird floating on water. This year’s overall winner is a portrait of a Helena’s tree frog and its glowing golden eyes of piercing through the darkness. Did you know that three months ago a meteor exploded 16 miles above the Earth? What’s more, it released the amount of energy ten times stronger than the atomic bomb blast over Hiroshima during World War II. NASA managed to capture the large meteor explosion, and it has recently shared impressive images and an animation with the public. On 18 December 2018, a large “fireball” exploded about 16 miles (26 km) above the Earth, releasing an estimated 173 kilotons of energy....

NASA has recently released an intriguing photo of sand dunes on Mars. It shows blue dunes on the so-called Red Planet. Although it’s a false-color image, it still looks surreal and captivating, and the story behind it is pretty interesting. First of all, this isn’t a single photo, nor it’s new. In fact, it was taken over 15 years ago! Mars Odyssey orbiter took the photos between December 2002 and November 2004 with its Thermal Emission Imaging System instrument....
A new image has leaked of Sony’s new 24mm f/1.4 GM lens. It’s expected to be officially announced at some point later today. Although this may be all that Sony announces today, so if you were hoping for the rumoured 135mm or high end “Mini A9” APS-C camera, you’ll probably be disappointed. The image above comes via Nokishita, but Sony Alpha Rumors has also just posted a couple more leaked images, along with a handful of specs....
Three new wide lenses have been announced by Nikon today. Two for full frame, the 28mm f/1.4E ED and 8-15mm f/3.5-4.5E ED Fisheye and one DX lens, the 10-20mm f/4.5-5.6G VR. A useful set of additions to the Nikkor lineup. The 28mm f/1.4E speaks for itself, extending Nikon’s line of high quality f/1.4 primes, but it certainly doesn’t come cheap. The 8-15mm f/3.5-4.5E ED Fisheye will also be welcome to many hoping to add a fisheye to their kit....
Whenever you order a new camera, you’re always anticipating how its new features will work. Not just how well they’ll work but how easy and intuitive they are to operate. How smoothly they’ll fit into your existing workflow. Often, we’ll jump into the camera and try to figure out those features ourselves, forgetting that our camera actually came with a manual. Sometimes, we won’t figure it out and we’ll still forget we have a manual, so we turn to the Internet for help....
