Simplified Posing For Beginners Breaking Down The Building Tweaking Of Poses

Posing is probably the most difficult part of shooting portraits for most photographers. The technical side can be learned relatively easily. Your style just develops over time based on what you like. But posing, directing a subject, getting the expressions that you want. Is art in itself. And if you’re working with the general public and not models, it can be a difficult one to master. In this video, photographer Manny Ortiz talks about how he poses his subjects during shoots....

Sony S New Sd Card Is The World S Fastest With Transfer Speeds Of 300Mb Sec

I can still remember the days when a 16X CompactFlash card was considered quite fast at a nippy 2.4MB/sec. It was a good time. Dinosaurs roamed the earth, and we daren’t even think about shooting our DSLRs higher than ISO400. My how times have changed. Of course, they’ve needed to. With the increase in 4K video use, high megapixel cameras, and insane framerates, transfer speed demands have increased tremendously. Sony’s new offering, though, goes a little beyond extreme (no pun intended....

Sony has announced its two newest smartphones, the Xperia 1 III and the Xperia 5 III, both of which contain a triple-rear camera setup with a hybrid zoom lens offering the equivalent field of view to that of a 70-105mm focal length range on a full-frame body at its extremes. It also contains the usual standard 24mm and ultra-wide 16mm equivalent field of view cameras. The variable focal length of the “hybrid” zoom system is thanks to a periscope system built into the camera module which physically moves the elements closer to or further away from the sensor....

Stop Trying To Chase Or Fake Perfection In Your Photography It S Ruining Your Work

It’s funny. In the film days, camera and lens manufacturers strived for perfection, because photographers demanded it. They wanted perfect sharpness and clarity wide open. They wanted no vignetting. They wanted fantastic colour and contrast with consistent light transmission from one lens to the next. As the gear gets closer and closer to that perfection, photographers are treating their own work the same way. They strive for “the perfect shot”....

Stop Using Filters You Re Not A Disney Character

I was chatting to a friend who told me a story about how her much younger cousin had escaped on holiday to somewhere tropical as an antidote to this whole pandemic thing. Sounds pretty idyllic, I said. Except apparently, the entire trip was (according to the cousin) “a disaster” because the girl’s poor boyfriend was so terrible at taking photos that she didn’t end up with a “single good photo” of herself for her social media....

Take Your Images Up A Notch With Colour Grading Done The Right Way

One of the parts of editing and post-processing I enjoy the most is colour grading. You can really add to the emotion and story depending on how you edit the colour palettes of an image. In this excellent video from Adorama, editorial and commercial photographer Emily Teague shows us how she goes about colour grading an image. Emily is using Capture One to edit her image, however, the same principles apply to whichever software you’re using....

The Balance Of The Camera And Why It Matters

While the broad strokes of what is wanted on a camera usually revolve around the imaging fundamentals (resolution, ISO performance, AF, etc), there are some functions of camera design which have significant impact on creating that often can be overlooked. The aspect that I want to discuss today is that of balance. By balance, I am talking about how the chassis works together with the lens in a way that makes creating more fluid to the photographer....

The Camera Phone Of The Future Could Have No Camera At All

A few decades ago, it was impossible to imagine a camera without film. It was also hard to imagine a gadget such as a smartphone. The Flex Teleprompter Works Both With Your Camera And For Speeches With A Live Audience

Teleprompters are valuable tools for anybody who creates video-based content. They allow you to easily script that content and read it while talking directly to the camera. As creating video content for platforms like YouTube has become more popular this year, so have teleprompters. This one popped up on my feed recently from the folks at Prompt-it launching their new FLEX 2-in-1 teleprompter on Kickstarter. It works both on-camera with a tablet and a large piece of glass for easy reading, or you can mount it to a stand for use when speaking to an actual live audience – a new trick for a teleprompter intended for use with cameras....
