Loupedeck has released a new Version 5.0 update for its Loupedeck CT and Loupedeck Live consoles that brings with it a new user interface, native integration for vMix, a plug-in for Ecamm and upgraded macOS integration for Capture One. There’s also a new cut down “Simplified Profile” designed specifically for live streamers who don’t always need the advanced functionality the devices offer. Adobe just made the first major app shift from their own platform by adding Lightroom to the Mac App Store. This isn’t the first Adobe application on the Mac App Store, as it joins Photoshop Elements, however, this is the first major “professional” piece of software available in this way. Apple has been pushing for more developers to move their apps onto the App Store, rather than having their own individual platforms....

A father was recently trying to get a photo of himself and his two-year-old daughter inside the elephant enclosure at San Diego Zoo. They narrowly escaped when the huge animal charged at them, and the father even dropped his child on the ground while running away from the elephant....

It may have recently been tested and defeated in the American courts, but drone registration is coming to the UK. The government have announced plans to introduce the registration along with “safety awareness courses” for owners of SUAs (Small Unmanned Aircraft). This registration, they say, will be required for anything weighing more than 250g (~8oz). The BBC report that DJI have weighed in and are in favour of these measures....

A couple of years ago, Metabones released firmware updates for their EF-E Speed Boosters and EF-E Smart Adapters that introduced 10 frames per second max continuous autofocus to the Sony A9 mirrorless camera. Now, Metabones has released a new firmware update which adds that functionality for the Sony A7III, too. Merriam-Webster dictionary defines pareidolia as “the tendency to perceive a specific, often meaningful image in a random or ambiguous visual pattern.” Dictionaries fail to mention, though, that this is the reason why we see many ordinary objects and images as way more fun than they are. NASA has recently published new photos of Jupiter taken by Juno spacecraft over the past year. Just like previous times, the photos will leave you in awe. The latest images of the planet look like abstract watercolor paintings, or “ink in water” art, and the amount of detail in them is striking. Juno spacecraft was launched in 2011. Its main purpose is to help scientists understand and explore origin and evolution Jupiter....

It’s not often you hear about new UK-based photographic manufacturers these days. At least, certainly not when it comes to lenses. But, it appears that’s exactly what we have, with new lens company, Skyllaney Opto-Mechanics. Their first lens will be a limited edition run of a 50mm f/2 classic Sonnar formula lens with a Leica M mount. Based off a 1937 pre-war design by Dr Ludwig Bertele, the new Skyllaney 50mm f/2 Bertele contains the same optical formula but with modern lens coatings to increase contrast and reduce flare....

Karen Hepp, a news anchor at Fox 29 News, is suing Facebook, Reddit, Imgur, and several other websites for “abhorrent and disgusting” uses of her photo. Reportedly, a security camera snapshot of Hepp ended up online, and it was used in dating and erectile dysfunction ads, as well as in sexualized context on other websites. According to the lawsuit, about two years, ago Hepp’s co-workers and managers drew to her attention that her photo was being used in online ads for erectile dysfunction and dating websites....

If there’s one thing that pretty much all mirrorless filmmakers agree on, it’s that focus by wire lenses absolutely suck when it comes to manually focusing. Two years ago, Olympus announced the Tough TG-5 rugged compact camera. And it was a pretty good camera for what it was.
