A Buzzing Ball Of Bees Wins 2022 Wildlife Photographer Of The Year

Photographer Karine Aigner has won the Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2022. Her image shows a buzzing ball of cactus bees spinning over the hot sand on a Texas ranch. Taken at the bee level, it depicts the behavior of these creatures, but also reminds us of how important it is to protect them. Wildlife Photographer of the Year is developed and produced by the Natural History Museum, London. It’s now in its fifty-eight-year, and Karine is only the fifth woman to be awarded the Grand Title award....

A Lesson In Color Grading

If Shakespeare were a photographer today, he’d have lost so many jobs to his “To tone or not to tone” predicament that in comparison you’d probably be able to catch more snowflakes in your mouth during a 20 second freak blizzard than he would have landed paid work. Today I’m here with a video for you on that age old subject of “Colour Toning” and with a method I think most of you may find not only easy, but incredibly powerful....

A Lightweight Set Up For Wide Angle Macro To Give You More Depth Of Field

I like experimenting with different setups, especially for wide angle close-ups. Last year, I took my wife’s Sony A7 for a couple of field trips and paired it with the Voigtländer Super Wide-Heliar 15mm f/4.5 with extension tubes for some wide angle macro photography, and the results were pretty cool! Compared to my usual DSLR setup, the lens was much smaller, allowing me to approach subjects from more compelling angles....

A Project Uses Open Webcams To Show How Long You Posed For That Perfect Instagram Photo

We’ve all seen those perfectly posed Instagram photos taken at various locations all over the world. But I believe that, like me, you’ve also witnessed while those were being staged. The super-focused face of a boyfriend or a bestie makes the scene kinda cute… And then the frozen unnatural pose of an “Instagram model” makes you cringe. Artist Dries Depoorter recently launched a project titled The Follower, revealing precisely those cute yet cringe-worthy moments....

A Real Softbox For Led Lights And How To Extend An Osmo

If you are using LED panels, there is a good chance you are using them bare, or with a diffusion panel. If you need a bigger light source that the size of your panels, there are no pre-made solutions. If you are using a spot LED (like the 120T from aputure), you can use “regular” softboxes, but there is really no solution that can further extend an LED panel....

A Website Sells Ai Generated Nudes Of Non Existent Women Why Is It Not Okay

Scrolling through my Facebook (soon TikTok) feed yesterday, a saw a post my friend shared. It was about a website that sells nude photos of women for $1, but there’s a catch – none of those women exist. Similar to these portraits or these cameras, all of the nude women are AI-generated. Like a hamster running frantically inside its little wheel, my brain started processing this information and I spent the rest of the day thinking about it....

A Weird Potato Fish Wins The 2021 Potato Photographer Of The Year

When photographers call something “a potato,” that usually means it’s bad. Some would say it’s just Nikon, but I beg to differ. So when it comes to potato photography, is it something bad? Definitely not! The Potato Photographer of the Year confirms it and shares with us the best photos of its 2021 contest. The competition was inspired in part by the photo of a potato (Potato #345 (2010)), taken by acclaimed photographer Kevin Abosch....

While Blackmagic might’ve beaten them to video editing, when it comes to photo editing, Adobe is first out of the gate with a new Photoshop beta for Apple’s new ARM-based Apple Silicon machines. Naturally, it requires one of the newly announced Apple computers, and a paid-up Adobe CC subscription. But don’t get too excited just yet. Adobe notes there are some limitations. Nokishita’s on a roll today. After previously leaking the entire spec sheet for the upcoming Fujifilm X-T4, they’ve now also leaked all of the product photos for the new camera via Twitter. From the images, it looks it’ll become available in both the standard black as well as black and silver variants. It looks pretty much as we’d expect. A lot like the Fujifilm X-T3. The only obvious difference is the big flippy out LCD, although it’s said to be a little larger than the X-T3 to help account for the larger battery....

Animated Photos From Fukushima Show How Abrupt Its Evacuation Was After Nuclear Disaster

Looking at Fukushima not easy. The place has been evacuated on 2011 after 4 of its nuclear reactors melted down. Tohuku earthquake raised a 13 tsunami meter wave that was just 3 meters too high for the 10 meter wave gate that the power station had in place. The meltdown reached a level 7 on the International nuclear event scale, which has only been matched by the Chernobyl accident, and never repeated since Fukushima....

2020 finally seems to be coming to an end! And let’s be honest here – This hasn’t exactly been the coolest year in recent history. Astronomer Uses 2Bit Game Boy Camera To Capture Craters Of The Moon

Although I’ve (sadly) never owned a Nintendo Game Boy Camera, I love to see how artists, scientists or nineties kids play with it in the modern age. An astronomer Alexander Pietrow used this 1998 gadget for astrophotography, and ended up with 2bit images of the Moon and Jupiter. He shares the process and the photos with DIYP, so take a look how the Moon craters look when taken with a 2bit, 128×112px Game Boy Camera....

Blackmagic Quietly Releases The Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2 And It S Basically A 6K Pro Without Built In Nd

To absolutely none of the usual Blackmagic fanfare, the company has today released the new Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2. It’s a fairly big upgrade over the original Pocket 6K, as it’s essentially a Pocket 6K Pro but without the built-in ND filter, which keeps the price of the 6K G2 at $1,999, same as the original 6K. This also means you get that 5″ tilting touchscreen display, NP-F batteries, optional EVF and Mini-XLR input....

Canon 6D Mark Ii Dynamic Range Results Are Disappointing

There has been a great hype about the new Canon 6D Mark II. Now that it’s officially released, the first dynamic range test results are coming in – and they are not good. As it turns out, the 6D Mark II has less dynamic range than models like 5D Mark IV or 1D X Mark II. Canon Breaks Into The Drone Market With A New 40K Search And Rescue Drone Camera Combo

Well, this was unexpected. There weren’t even any rumours floating around, other than a mention of a patent two years ago. Then radio silence, nothing. But now, Canon have entered into the drone market. Although it’s not the consumer drone market. They’re going industrial. With the catchy name of PD6E2000-AW-CJ1, Canon’s new drone costs a reported $20,000. Of course, you can double that price when you add in the $20,000 ME20F-SH camera that gets mounted to it....
