TikTok has launched a new text-to-image generator which you can access directly inside the app. The generator lets you type in a short description which then generates a fairly abstract and colourful AI impression. The effect is called AI Greenscreen and can be accessed via the camera part of the app. If you haven’t already heard of text-to-image generators recently then I’m not sure where you’ve been hiding. Dall-E2, Google and Midjourney have all made headlines with their AI-generated images, some being more realistic than others....

Two photographers have been chosen to make up an 8-person crew of artists to fly around the moon. Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa commissioned the SpaceX mission, which will be the first of its kind. The crew consists of eight artists from a range of disciplines — an EDM DJ, two photographers, a documentary filmmaker, and a YouTuber, along with other creative professionals. The two chosen are London-based documentary photographer Rhiannon Adam, and wildlife photographer Karim Iliya who lives in Iceland and Hawaii....

But thanks to a single lawmaker, the bill hasn’t become law after all. 71-year-old Sir Christopher Chope of Conservative party blocked the bill and he didn’t give a reason for it. The global chip supply shortage has caused chaos in a range of industries, from automotive to consumer electronics. Not surprisingly, the photo industry hasn’t been spared either. Unfortunately, it looks like it’s not nearly over. The US Commerce Department has confirmed that the chip supply shortage will extend at least until the end of 2022. A report by the US Department of Commerce reads that “median inventory held by chips consumers […] has fallen from 40 days in 2019 to less than 5 days in 2021....

Good news! This is actually a relatively easy JHP lighting setup to play with and it produces some pretty great looking results too. It’s easy to set up as you only need a couple of softboxes and this can be put together and shot in a very small space indeed; no studio required. Plus it produces some great looking results because it uses coloured light. It happens that gear theft gets caught on security cameras. But a very weird footage was captured at an anti-racism rally in Toronto this Sunday. A thief was caught on camera while stealing a backpack full of camera gear – and it was all filmed by the gear’s very owner. The backpack belongs to producer and videographer Javon Martin, who set up his camera to film the rally. His backpack was on the stairs that were in the frame, so I guess he kept an eye on it....

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford recently got in the spotlight, but not because of his football achievements. During his team’s Super Bowl victory celebration, a photographer was taking photos of Stafford and his wife. She stepped back and fell off the stage – and Stafford simply walked away. The whole incident was caught on camera, and the public has reacted fiercely. Photographer Kelly Smiley was shooting the Rams’ Super Bowl parade on Wednesday....

I’ve always loved timelapse videos of plants growing or dying. And in this video, Jens of Another Perspective shows us how white mushrooms grow. And just as I love eating them, I loved watching them in this hypnotizing timelapse. Jens bought mycelium and grew white mushrooms from scratch. He filmed them over the course of 30 days, showing their full development. He played a bit with the video near the end and reversed it, so it looks as if the mushrooms are shrinking and going back into the soil....

A 21-year-old woman was recently found dead at Diamond Bay in Sydney, Australia. According to the reports, she was taking photos on the cliff, when she most likely lost footing and fell to her death. Madalyn Davis was a British beautician and makeup artist, specializing in eyelashes. Judging from almost 16K followers, she was also quite popular on Instagram. The BBC reports that she had been traveling to Thailand and Bali before heading to Australia, where the tragedy occurred this Sunday....

A 26-year-old woman from India has taken her own life by accident while posing for a selfie. She was posing with a shotgun last week and reportedly didn’t know that it had been loaded. According to the reports, she accidentally pulled the trigger, and taking a selfie turned into a tragedy. The tragic accident took place on Thursday, 22 July in Hardoi, India. The woman named Radhika Gupta was posing with her father-in-law’s shotgun in a room in her house....
