Every Mac comes with the Image Capture app pre-installed on the system. It allows users to easily import photos and videos from other devices. Recently, though, the developers of NeoFinder discovered a bug in the Image Capture app that is potentially causing it to waste a lot of hard drive space when importing images from your iPhone and iPad into your computer. Normally when you connect your iOS device to your Mac and use Image Capture to transfer everything across, you have the ability to convert the HEIC photos into standard jpg images....

Since the initial and somewhat vague “development announcement” in September, Nikon has remained pretty tight-lipped about the impending Nikon D6. They haven’t even said when they’re announcing it, yet, although all indicators pointed towards a date in early 2020, following on from the January 6th announcement dates in 2012 and 2016 for the D4 and D5 respectively. But it seems the announcement may come in a tad later, according to a report on Nikon Rumors....

There have been plenty of assumptions, rumors and finally a confirmation that Nikon is developing a mirrorless camera. Judging from the latest report, it seems like there will be not one, but two mirrorless cameras announced. And the first set of specs for them has just leaked online. According to Nikon Rumors, Nikon is coming up with two mirrorless cameras. One of them will have 24-25MP, and the other 45MP, although 48MP is also a possibility....

Nikon has announced its longest lens for the Nikon Z system to date, the Nikkor Z 800mm f/6.3 VR S. It’s relatively inexpensive, too, with a price tag of only $6,496.95 vs the $16,296.95 its f/5.6 F mount predecessor demands. Sure, it’s a third of a stop slower but for this kind of price difference, especially given high ISO performance increases of late, does that really matter? The new super-long prime lens is obviously targeted toward sports and wildlife photographers, but as well as being a little lighter on the wallet, it’s also going to be lighter to carry, coming in at around half the weight of its predecessor, too....

First spotted back in early March after registration in Russia, and then in Indonesia in July, the unreleased Nikon camera, “N2014” (which Nikon Rumors believes may be the upcoming Nikon Z9 flagship) now has some interesting new news. It looks like it’ll ditch the more traditional GPS system in favour of GNSS according to the latest registration. The news comes via Nokishita and says that as well as featuring the standard WiFi and Bluetooth, the N2014 camera will also utilise the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), which should offer more accurate positioning data....

2020 has been tough on Nikon. The company faced multiple gear delays, layoffs, and company restructuring. The camera sales suffered as well, creating a colossal 17.1 billion yen loss in the Q1 of 2020. So, Nikon has decided to focus on mirrorless for the time being. Toyo Keizai Plus did an interview with Nikon’s Managing Executive Officer Hirotaka Ikegami. According to this source, in April 2020 the number of “interchangeable lens cameras sold decreased by 80% from the same month of the previous year....

When Nikon started shifting over from the screw-drive autofocus system of their regular F mount AF lenses to their AF-S system they started adding autofocus motors inside the lens itself. One of the key selling points at the time was that no matter which camera you were using, the lens would always rack from minimum to maximum focus at the same speed as the motor was in the lens itself....

Chinese filter manufacturer Nisi just unveiled a UV-filter and filter system for the Fuji X100V. The filter system is compatible with Fuji X100V/X100F/X100T/X100S/X100. The UV filter protects against ultraviolet light, and it is a screw-on system produced in silver or black connecting with the camera’s color theme. The filter system comes with an easy to install filter holder which allows stacking up to two filters. The holder is made from aluminium alloy construction and can be rotated 360 degrees....

I have been using PayPal for almost all my business transactions for years now – however, I recently had to (briefly) open an old fashioned business bank account for a special project I was working on. I was amazed at how expensive and useless a regular business bank account is compared to PayPal! There were service charges for everything, on top of a monthly fee – and I couldn’t do half of the things I’m used to doing with ease with PayPal....

Ok, you can stop speculating and guessing now. Panasonic has finally officially announced the new Panasonic Lumix GH6 Micro Four Thirds mirrorless camera. Rather than a slight refresh like the Panasonic GH5 Mark II, the GH6 presents a pretty major upgrade over the GH5 for those that need it, with a new 25.2-megapixel sensor, 7.5 stops of IBIS and 5.7K video at up to 60 frames per second. It comes five years after the release of the Panasonic Lumix GH5 and it represented a significant step up in Panasonic’s video capabilities over its predecessor....

According to Panasonic, this lens is “The world’s first telephoto zoom lens that achieves an open f/1.7 over the entire zoom range”, although, a field of view equivalent to 100mm on full-frame is kind of a short telephoto. Still, for things like weddings, events or portraits, it’s a great focal length range with a nice wide aperture. The new Micro Four Thirds lens offers a field of view equivalent to that of a 50-100mm lens on a full-frame body with that fast constant f/1....

The photo-sharing platform Photocentra has been around a few years. A few weeks back, they reached out to me and asked if I could have a look, scout the platform and provide some feedback. They told me that they worked hard to improve the platform in order to reach a wider audience, so I said yes. Their hope is to make Photocentra into an interesting alternative for those who are frustrated with the likes of 500px and Flickr....

Remember that couple – the Moldovans – who said that their photographer – Andrea Polito – made them pay extra for an album cover? The photographer since came forward with her version of the story showing evidence that she suggested the couple a free cover (and actually went above and beyond for the couple). Many news outlets, though, did not follow up on the story to vindicate Polito....

Australian photographer Trent Mitchell brings these genres together in a magnificent series titled Inner Atlas. They show bodysurfers beneath the ocean waves, and they’ll take your breath away. DIYP chatted with Trent a bit about the project and all the challenges he faced while shooting. And this definitely was a challenging project to create! Trent lives by the beach and loves traveling and enjoying the living world, and he’s been taking photos for over 15 years now....

Astrophotography is one of those genres I love to admire from a distance. I’ve tried it occasionally and failed miserably every time. I’m sure most of it is down to my technique, although I’m going to blame clouds and light pollution anyway. I’d love to be good at it, but it’s just not going to happen. So, when I see work from people like Russian landscape photographer, Daniel Kordan, I am both amazed and impressed....

Water droplets can be a great photographic subject. Sometimes, it feels like you can see a whole new universe inside of them. Serbian photographer Dusan Stojancevic recently used droplet photography to create something unique – portraits of people. As a part of a collaboration with WaterAid, he marked World Water Day by capturing portraits of Cambodian school children, doctors, cleaners, and farmers. All of them had their life changed thanks to the access to clean water....

The ISS orbits the Earth every 90 minutes at the speed of 17,500 miles (28,000 kilometers) per hour. On top of that, it’s very rare to see it during the day. So, capturing it in daylight is pretty tricky and requires some serious planning and preparation. Chinese photographer Wang Letian captured the ISS at the right place and at the right time, and his photo even became NASA’s Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) for 11 April....

It’s nothing new that politicians use notes and cue cards when giving speeches. But a recent AP photo shows that Donald Trump uses notes that remind him to be sympathetic. AP photographer Carolyn Kaster managed to capture the notes president Trump used when meeting people impacted by the mass school shootings across the US. The photo made the public worried and caused a lot of reaction. On Wednesday 21 February, Donald Trump met with those impacted by the mass school shootings, some of them being the survivors....

Even though I’ve never used a Game Boy camera, projects I’ve seen using it are among my favorites. It’s incredible how creative people can get with a simple, 2bit digital camera: shooting astrophotography, macro, race cars, portraits… Even turning it into a webcam.
