This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission. On 20 July 1969 astronauts Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong set their feet on the surface of the moon. And in 2019, many people have paid tribute to them in all sorts of ways. Hungarian photographer Lampert Benedek was one of these, and he did it in his recognizable fashion: with LEGO.Advertisements Lampert used the popular toy bricks to recreate the iconic photos of the Apollo 11 mission....

As well as photos of the soon-to-be-announced EOS 850D/T8i, Nokishita has also put out some photos of the upcoming Canon RF mount 24-105mm f/3.5.5.6 IS STM for the EOS R mirrorless camera range. And, no, that’s not the rumoured EOS R5 or EOS R6 it’s attached to in the photo above. just the Canon EOS RP. Canon already has an RF Mount 24-105mm f/4L, but this one will be a new “kit zoom” at a significantly lower price point than the $1,100 constant f/4 aperture L lens....

It’s like going through the Stargate, or at least down the water slides at the local pool. This very neat effect was created by YouTuber digi47. He says that he “didn’t realise it would create such a cool effect”. But a cool effect is exactly what it makes. I wouldn’t recommend trying this with a DSLR unless you have an underwater housing. Even then, though, the lens itself might be too large to really get the full effect, and the larger sensor might not even allow you to focus so closely....

We know that those models that we are seeing on cover shoots have been shooed to death. We shared a few of those before/after over the years (see here, here and here for just a few). So we know that extreme retouching exists, and we also know that it’s an issue that bogs both models and photographers. What is not so common, is having someone from within the retouching circle to out the secrets of the trade....

The Rototolight Neo 2 seemed to cause a little controversy when it was first announced. The specs on-paper didn’t look all that great. Rotolight were quick to respond and dispute the assertions being made against the Neo 2. Now, it’s out in the wild, and videos are starting to show up to see just how it compares. For example, this one from photographer Luis Gabrial, who compares the Neo 2 with a Godox speedlight....

Samyang have today announced two new lenses to start their Premium range. An 85mm f/1.2 and 14mm f/2.4. These new lenses, Samyang say, offer “unprecedented resolving power”, built for 50MP stills and up to 8K video productions. Also known as Rokinon, Samyang has become quite a formidable competitor lately. Both of the new lenses are full frame manual focus lenses. This may disappoint some folks who were hoping for autofocus....

Levitation photography is a relatively new topic, only really taking off in the last 20 years or so since digital cameras ousted film. But it’s become a very popular one. Often it’s done by balancing on top of objects or suspending from a string that will be photoshopped out later, but there are ways to do it without Photoshop. Many of the ways to do it without Photoshop just involve good timing (or a little luck)....

Skylum has announced Luminar Flex, a new plugin that brings Luminar’s AI enhancing tools to third-party apps. You can now use Luminar adjustments and effects with Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom Classic, and Photoshop Elements, as well as with Photos for Mac. Luminar 3 is a winner of TIPA’s “Best Image Software” award for 2019. Skylum CEO Alex Tsepko explains that the Luminar Flex plugin “lets photographers continue to use their host software of choice, while taking advantage of Luminar’s one-of-a-kind editing features....

Sony is famous for high-quality mirrorless cameras. Expectedly, many users have wondered: why hasn’t Sony still offered a smartphone with a killer camera? Well, there certainly are some reasons for that and the company has finally revealed them. Its plans for phone cameras turned out to be shortsighted – but it appears that this is going to change. Adam Marsh, Sony’s Senior Manager of Global Marketing, has confirmed that there have been some internal barriers between the camera and smartphone teams within the company....

The Sony a6300 was one of the most promising cameras that Sony ever released. A 4K crop-sensor mirrorless for less than $1000. Promising, but not delivering if you tried to shoot 4K for over 13 minutes. Then the camera would overheat and shu itself down. If there was one single issue that kept haunting this camera it was the 4k overheating issue. Sony did release a firmware for overheating, but it was not solving the issues that videographers were facing....

We mount action cameras on handlebars and helmets, and Japanese engineers mounted a Sony Alpha a7S II onto the International Space Station (ISS). As a result, we now have the first ever commercial-quality footage of the Earth from outer space. 249m miles above our home planet, the camera filmed day and night view of Japan and the USA. It took special extra equipment to keep the camera safe and rolling, and as you can expect – the efforts paid off....

There’s been a fair bit of buzz around the new Sony RX100 V since it was announced. There’s been a lot of talk about the A6500, too. The RX100, though, sits in a couple of pretty large markets. There’s the ever dwindling compact camera market. The threat of mobile phones has never been greater to compacts. Somehow, the RX100 manages to hold on as one of the few strong survivors....

Sony UK is teasing an announcement coming in six days and a few hours. The teaser doesn’t say anything about the camera. There’s no model name, no specs, nothing, just a silhouette and a countdown. Although, that silhouette might look slightly familiar to some. If you spotted the leaked photos claiming to be the new Sony ZV-1 recently, then it’s pretty obvious that it’s going to be the Sony ZV-1 announcement....
