As well as being physically tough, it can be a very emotional journey, too. Snowboarder & filmmaker Jeremy Jones, professional climber Angie Payne, and adventure photographer Jon Griffith sat down for a round table discussion during the 2016 Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival to talk about the challenges they face....

Solarcan is back with a new product, the solarcan.co.uk/PUCK. It’s a solar camera that comes in a very tiny tin package to let you shoot the sun’s path through the sky over many weeks or months. It’s much smaller than their original 16oz version, which you can see in action here when Matthew Vandeputte used one to create a 10 million second exposure (just under 4 months). The new Solarcan Puck is also a pinhole camera and produces up to three total exposures....

In a not surprising move, Atomos has announced that the Atomos Ninja V will support RAW over HDMI from the Sony A7S III in an update to the recorder next month. It will support ProRes RAW at 4K and up to 60 frames per second, simultaneously bypassing the 30-minute recording limit of 4K60 internal on the A7S III. It won’t record the native 16-bit linear RAW of the Sony A7S III, as it will compress it down to the 12-bit Log RAW the Atomos Ninja V is famous for....

In December 2018, drone sightings shut down Gatwick Airport in London and left more than 100,000 passengers stranded. Three months after this major incident, the UK government has decided to expand drone no-fly zones around all major airports. From now on, instead of 0.6 miles (1km), it will be illegal to fly a drone within 3 miles (5km) around airports. Only three weeks after the drone sightings at Gatwick Airport, a similar incident happened at Heathrow....

One of the beautiful things about aerial and drone photography is that you can appreciate the earth from a completely different perspective. The Sony A6400 is a camera of choice for many vloggers: it has good video features, a flip screen, and retails at a reasonable price. I often stumble upon the music and videos that take my breath away. This happened with Bonobo’s song “No Reason,” and the video that follows it really left me speechless. Watching this video, you’ll be sure there were special effects involved. However, the director Oscar Hudson used no VFX whatsoever. We’ve seen our fair share of unique DIY cameras powered by Raspberry Pi, with the latest one coming from a self-taught programmer Martin Fitzpatrick. He has created a camera that’s basically a hacked Etch A Sketch. He named it Etch-a-Snap, and it will turn your photos into quite precise Etch A Sketch drawings.Advertisements Etch-a-Snap is powered by a Raspberry Pi Zero (or Zero W). It’s not much of a secret that I’m a big fan of M42 lenses, especially for things like video or timelapse. I’ve got a few dozen of them that I use when I’m after a particular look and feel that would take a lot of work to achieve with more modern glass. But occasionally I see a video or photos using an M42 lens that I haven’t come across before....

It’s hard to stand out in the flood of incredible timelapse videos. But Kirill Neiezhmakov certainly manages to capture viewers’ attention with his incredible timelapse and hyperlapse videos. This time, he presented us with hyperlapse of the wonderful city of Rome, the capital of Italy. It caught my attention from the first frame and kept it until the very end. Kirill didn’t only create technically flawless and interesting hyperlapse, but it also contains a story, which I find particularly interesting....
